Hello guys! Newbie here. I am really trying to go this year, just gotta convince the parents to fund me XD.
I have been reading about bonnaroo for a long time now, and with phish back i can't miss out! I have NEVER gone to a live show (so sad I know), so I figure what way to dive into the world of live music than with a huge ass festival.
There are so many things to consider with this place. I rarely go south (i live in NY and love the snow). I just had a few questions that I couldn't see covered in the posts such as "newbie faq" and whatnot.
Any advice would be appreciated.
-I saw on the map the camping only areas are right near centeroo. Where is your car if you camp there? How far away?
-Is there anything that is not on the list of stuff that I should bring? I understand baby wipes will be my shower for the festival.
-What happens in the morning when the festival opens? or is it open 24 hours? I plan on seeing phish and getting as close as possible... I'll sit at the main stage and wait there all day if need be, digging all the other phish freaks .
-How hot is it really going to be? I have a tent, but i don't have one of those easyup things or anything like that. Should I construct some apparatus with pvc pipe and a tarp to shade the tent?
-What are some good ideas for food? I plan on carrying a backpack around with a camelback bladder in it and food. Is this allowed in centeroo? I am trying to cut cost as much as possible.
-Is a cooler gonna be able to handle the heat? I have a nice 5 day cooler that keeps ice for 5 days on summer campouts on Long Island, but its not nearly as hot or humid there. I figured things like Tuna salad and bread would just be an easy meal.
Any ideas you have for me I would really appreciate. I plan on carrying anything of value on me at all times, and most likely camping in the camping only section. I would really like to bring food in while I am in centeroo, which I hope is allowed. Anything that is easy, and doesnt make waste, and I don't have to cook would be awesome.
Give me any of your imput, I was a boy scout from 7-18, so I understand constructing the tent and how to pack light. Let me know if you have any helpful hints. Thanks guys, I hope to see you all there.

read teh forums dude. i would answer your questions but really most of them are answered somewhere else on the board already so it would be redundant to do so.
Yeah....sometimes things get buried here over time...but all of your questions have been answered at length and many times over! LOL! But just quickly to hit the high points:
It gets HOT! Like...high 90s during the day is likely but cool down at night so bring a jacket....no food in Centeroo as a rule, but most security will let you in with snacky kinda things...granola, cheezits...but not like MEALS cause they want you to buy food from the vendors...but it depends on how closely you get searched. Empty camelbacks and sealed water bottles are OK...5 day coolers should be fine if you don't leave them out in the full sun the whole time....and YES! You WILL need shade...as much as you can pull together...shade is a premuim at Roo and pretty much a necessity! ;D
The rest should be easy enough to find VERY throrough answers to all around this forum but if you do have trouble....most folks are eager to share their experiences! Welcome to the most wonderful experience you'll ever have! ;D
-I saw on the map the camping only areas are right near centeroo. Where is your car if you camp there? How far away?
You park your car as if you were camping next to it, there is no special parking area for camping only. How far away you will be is impossible to know ahead of time, could be a 1 minute walk, could be 30

It's open 24 hours, however the main stage area is not, I would suggest getting up early and waiting at the entrance. However, the area directly in front of the stage is cleared out for each artist. You can camp behind that.
-How hot is it really going to be? I have a tent, but i don't have one of those easyup things or anything like that. Should I construct some apparatus with pvc pipe and a tarp to shade the tent?
Very hot, because you're outside all day. You will definitely want to bring shade.

Both a full camelbak bladder and anything more than a snack is up to the discretion of the person searching you on the way into centeroo. I'd suggest eating at camp, especially if you'll be as close as camping only. Or, look for the fastest moving security line and hope for the best, you can always turn around and get in another one if they give you grief for your food/water. Also, you can fill the camelbak inside centeroo at one of the water stations
-Is a cooler gonna be able to handle the heat? I have a nice 5 day cooler that keeps ice for 5 days on summer campouts on Long Island, but its not nearly as hot or humid there. I figured things like Tuna salad and bread would just be an easy meal.
It depends on what you keep in it and how often you open it. Also, it would do much better under the shade you should bring! For maximum coldness, use a brick of dry ice wrapped in a towel at the very bottom of the cooler (this may freeze things, but better than not being cold enough). Another helpful tip is to freeze a bunch of water bottles and use that instead of ice.

You camp right next to your car, unless by camping only youre referring to tent only. If thats the case, you park where they put you and then haul your stuff to tent only.

festivals open all the time. shows start around 1 PM and dont end till the sun comes up, but i dont think theres any time you arent allowed into centeroo.

Its TN in june, its fucking hot. yes you should have some type of shade tent to hide under

5 day coolers are perfect. use frozen waterbottles for ice and you will save a lot of room.

Okay cool thanks for all the input everyone. I have been reading and found a lot of info, mostly because i was using the search function incorrectly(stupid!) lol.
I have one more question though. I am curious as to what I should use for shade over my tent? I was thinking i could construct something of PVC and a tarp, but are there cheap canopies to go over my tent? I will be in the tent only area so no car to strap things to.
If you bring a shade canopy AND a tent, you can rig up a tarp from the edge of the shade canopy, over the tent, and stake it to the ground on the other side. That's what we did last year and it worked perfectly. Just make sure your tarp is large enough to extend up and over your tent, bring zip ties and extra stakes/guy lines.

Very good idea ^^
I will need to buy a shade canopy. How much do i need to spend to get one that is cheap but wont break?
I have plenty of huge tarps so i'll copy your method. Look for a bright orange flag in the tents only section doing your tarp method. Come say hey and i'll give you a pb+j

i've seen a lot of cheap shade canopies blowing around when the wind picks up. EZ-Ups are fantastic and durable. If you poke around on the internet you can get a used one for around $50.
