well i'd like to get very close to at least one of the phish shows, so i figure i'd have to go straight to the stage they're at in the morning and stay there all day. so that shouldn't be too bad since i have a camelbak and i can throw in some snacks, only thing i'm worried about is having to pee. i don't want to not drink since passing out from dehydration woudl be worse than giving up my spot, and i think the bottle thing would not only be gross to people around me, but difficult since there wouldn't be too much space to maneuver everything around. any suggestions?

I don't think you will have to stay as early as morning. Their are other shows playing That stage on friday and I'm just guessing you could just get ready to be in line for the inner pit when it lets out from the band that is playing before them.

Just from my personal experience this weekend and others accounts, being on the rail for a Phish show - while obviously is incredible and awesome - is sometimes the worst spot. You won't be able to see all the lights.
This may sound like a moot point, as you're there to hear phish and not see the lights. But I kid you not... those lights will bring tears to your eyes
edit: So what I meant to say, cause my intention was lost when I started thinking back to the lights... is that perhaps you should intend on starting the show off on the rail (or as close as you can get) and when the time comes well into the set that you have to break the seal, don't be afraid to change the location a bit after relieving yourself. You may find that you actually enjoy where you end up better than where you were
yeah, my mom's a nurse and she jsut told me about that thing, a condom catheter w/ a leg bag. the point about the light show makes sense too, so i guess i don't need to be front row center but i'd still like to make sure i am close enough to actually be able to see the band.
what i'm also worried about with that is that i will be wearing shorts and so the bag would be visible, which is not so cool
What would really be uncool is a big wet spot on the front of your shorts. I'd just strap the bag on the outside of your shorts. People will think it's a colostomy bag and give you plenty of room. This will also help clear your path to the front of the stage.
well i guess i have a question for ppl who got to the front for a headliner- when would you have needed to get theer to get up there. i mean if i only have to get there at like 5 or 6 then i shouldn't really have a problem holding it in.
I think it's hard to say how early you're going to need to be there given that you're talking about Phish. They do clear the pit out after every set and let people who have been standing in line in (not sure if you know about that or not). Your other alternative is to be in the "front row" behind the barricades that are just behind the pit area.
Re: the stadium pal, just remember that those bags are limited capacity...you'll still have the issue of what to do with the, ahem, contents once you've filled it.

Personal experience.
At DMB in 2005 we had camped out all through Allman Brothers right next to the beer tent waiting to push all the way up front (we had a few libations, which as you know, gave us the urge later). After DMB started, my friend Robby really had to go. He was kind of freaking out (corn-related) about pushing through the crowd to get to the bathrooms. A chick next to us noticed his plight and gave him a poncho, told him to pop a squat, and warned our neighbors what was going down. He squatted, did the deed, and got a resounding cheer from all around us. Really cool 'Roo moment, piss at my feet and all.
EDIT: If you can get into the very front section, which is walled-off, you have a straight shot to beer tents and porta-potties. At WSP in '07, I had no trouble going back and forth b\w the bathrooms and the front row.
Empty water bottle. Of course, that really only works for the guys.
Just don't do what that dude did when I went to see Umphrey's McGee a few months ago. He was some guy, probably in his mid 50's, so twice as old as anyone else there, and he was right up front - at one point he just whipped it out in the middle of the show and started peeing right on the floor of the club. After that, he soon became the only person in a six foot radius of his piss puddle.
Don't advocate peeing on the ground, please. I understand the desire to be up front, but remember you're a human being -- surrounded by other human beings -- once you get there!

i was unaware about htat, that seems like the ticket. so i just hav eto be waiting in a different line taht gets me into the pit and then i can move freely from the pit to porta potties? i never noticed a pit line before, where is it usually and any clue as to when the line will begin?

i guess the guy needed his dancing room, not a bad idea

THANK YOU!!! ^^^^^^^^^^
seriously now, were all adults or on our way to being adults just figure something out, and don't pee on the ground or in a bottle/cup or whatever, its gross for those around you...
last year some super rowdy frat boys who were chanting U S AAAAAA for like an hour peed in cups and then proceeded to get increasingly drunk and jump around and splash others with their urine....
i'm all for having the best time possible, but keep in mind that you're good time shouldn't infringe on the good time of those around you.

For WSP we got in the about an hour and a half before showtime and got right up front on the rail. For Phish, this will be probably be a different story. This "pit" setup was in '07 and I didn't go last year, so you might want to check with other Inforoosters to see if they did the pit last year.
In 2006, we camped out in front of the main stage all day for Radiohead. I peed a lot before they opened the main stage gates and once I got in there and my friends got set up I peed once more before the crowd was too thick. After that, I sipped on water a bit throughout the day. I did it enough to not get sick. I didn't pee from about 11:30 AM Saturday until we got back to camp at midnight. Neither did any of my friends, two guys and one other gal. I didn't have the urge until the moment we started walking back to camp. That's how we managed it. Of course, we weren't on any substances, which might make a difference.

Last year (albiet Lollapalooza) we didn't even start our ascent to the front for Rage until the show started. Within 2-3 songs we were in the front 5 rows. I just kinda squirmed my way through, if I got stuck, I just offered someone a drag off my Camelbak and they let me through. Afterwards I just washed the mouthpiece. Different venues I know, however, I'm assuming the voyage through violent Rage fans (myself included) is just as hard if not harder than a Phish crowd. Yay, nay?

Ladies and gentlemen, here is a prime example of why the crowds suck at Lollapalooza.
Hooray you pushed your way in front of thousands of other people that were there before you! You're awesome!

get there early and don't be worried about losing your spot because of having to pee. stay very hydrated and when you have to go just let the people around you know and i'm sure they will be cool with it because they'll have to pee at some point too. I've never waited for the front for a headliner, but i waited for Wilco on the What stage in '07 and everyone there was cool with letting you get up and go to the bathroom, get a drink, food, etc... just as long as you dont expect to get up and come back an hour or two later and have your spot still there.

If you were slightly more estute you would notice never did I say I pushed, if there was space, we went through, if there wasn't we were nice and asked or gave them water. People were generally very grateful. You people should relax.
I never minded when people passed by me.Many would dance past or be misting the crowd or some such nice thing. It just flowed as it should in a happy way.
Instead of dirt and poison, we have rather chosen to fill our hives with honey and wax; thus furnishing mankind with the two noblest of things, which are sweetness and light.

Considering the Rage show was stopped on multiple occasions due to audience goers pushing, I hardly believe you just happened to "walk through open space" up to the front while the show was going on.
I was probably 800 feet back and I was getting the crap kicked out of me.
