Lollapalooza's message board had a pretty clever idea going and I think that we have enough knowledgable and willing people on this board to get something similar running. Let me give a description, and let's see if there's enough interest and it's plausible.
Anywho, Lollapalooza had something called "Band a Day" where after Lolla's lineup was released, different members from the community signed up to write a description of one or more of their favorite Lolla artists. The users prepared the descriptions and then they'd post the artist descriptions on designated days. The descriptions would contain the band's website, myspace, wiki, other appropriate sites, a poll for other member's favorite song by that artist, a description (as brief or detailed as desired by the user), the artist's discography, recommendations (if you like this band, you may like...) and popular songs by that artist.
Several weeks before Lolla occured, there was a database of fan descriptions of every band playing Lolla. It's really quite nifty because the descriptions are written by real fans who really know the music and not just some guy who finds descriptions of the band from various websites and posts them.
Would anyone be interested in doing this or something similar?
I'd be interested. Folks over on another board also attempted to do it last year, but slackers fell down on the job and never got it accomplished! Are you willing to keep track of who has signed up for what?
I'd say first come, first served is probably the easiest way to manage it, especially with the potential Phish melee! That said, I'll call dibs on Lucinda Williams. ;D
edit: actually, they did a four or five round draft on the other board that attempted this. That might be more fair, only then you run the risk of people ending up with bands they're not interested in/familiar with.
The way I was thinking is first come first serve except for those bands that get a hell of a lot of interest. Lotteries for the special bands. Also, if a band doesn't get much attention, then a pity plea will be used to make people feel bad and give a description for that band.
Okay, why don't you PM one of the mods to make sure this is okay (I'm sure it will be) and set it up in the Troo Music Lounge as "'Roo Band of the Day" or something along those lines. And you can PM me with any pity pleas, but I'll start working on Lucinda if that's okay with you
For as good as an idea I thought this was, apparently there's only two of us supporters. I'm sure that you mods/admins have/will run through this thread. Let me know what's up because my PMs haven't done anything.
I say go for it. They do the same thing over on the ACL board, which is run by the same promoters.Would i have to set up a seperate sub-forum for this?
Possibly...or could it go in the Artist Directory thread?
Yo Funk, I think this isn't a well-traveled thread, hence the lack of responses. I think if you post it in the Troo Music Lounge, there'll be interest for sure. I'm heading out of town for a few days, but I'll get mine to you when I return (assuming there's more interest)!
yeah, a seperate sub-forum would be key as it'll be easier to organize and find bands. I'll repost something similar to this post to see how much interest we have on the board.
To the admins/powerful mods, can we get a sub-forum set up to get this ball rolling? Seems that we have a good amount of interest going in the Troo Music Lounge topic and I would like to start marking who's doing who ASAP (we have 85 days to cover the 76 initial bands plus the extras).
