If you're arriving Thursday during the day in something other than the back of an RV, it might be a good idea to but on some sunscreen just for the purposes of the dirve and sitting in line in your car. The sun can still get to you in your vehicle, and you may be in line for quite some time (~5 hours for us last year). Not having tinted windows, having your windows down to smoke or your arm on your window or whatever will expose you more. It would really suck to start off the weekend with one arm or one side of your face all red and crispy. It's not the most likely thing, but it can happen and most people don't even think about it. Also if you arrive during the day, remember to apply sunscreen very soon after you get parked and start setting up.
tops of you feet !!!! Key to remember...your feet get tortured at the Roo anyways, don't want to add sunburn to the list of foot maladies.

I'll be applying before I even get on the plane! Last year we were in such a rush to set up, my bf and I didn't even realize we'd forgotten until we were both sunburned.

Ditto! Didn't even think about putting it on before we set up... and when we were done and opening our first beer, we were also red
If you have room in your cooler, bring some aloe. We did and it made a huge difference!
Will one bottle of this neutrugena spray last 2 people all weekend?
Depends on you. I am olive skinned and tan very easily. I didn't have to re-apply very often but we had a fair skinned person with us who needed to re-apply every few hours. One can of it lasted for my hubby and I last year, but really I would buy 2.

Eh, I am just about a white as you get. I don't tan, I freckle. I just used one application of NoAd a day and was fine (except the spot I missed). I know the spray sounds good, but the cheap rub in works pretty well too if price is an issue.
hats at roo are totally key... i had a great floppy hat that i wore last year that was amazing... a sunburn makes me feel soooo sick whenever i get one, i would just hate to be fighting against it at roo... my sister has two kids so shes in mom mode even at bonna when the babies are safely at home with dad in ontario... shes always putting sunscreen on me!!
I'm a very, VERY pale person. No matter what block I use, no matter how effective, at the ROO 2 things always happen: 1) the stuff begins to sting (and yes, I've hit up all the "sensitive skin" formulas - no help there) 2) I eventually burn
last ROO I attended, I tried to use a parasol to hide under, but it was a ^^^^^ to keep up with (especially in expanded states)
For this upcoming ROO, I've decided to go the desert route and wear hijab (and possibly niqab) to cover all my exposed and burnable flesh during daylight hours. Muslim women in VERY hot climates wear these things AND clothing underneath, so I figure the right color (white) and the right fabric (cotton/linen) combination will keep me relatively comfortable and burn-free.
Does anyone else (preferalbly a non-pigmented anyone) have non-chemical strategies for sun-protection?
I'm pretty pale & the neutrogena stuff works very well.
I use the spray (helioplex and all) - and I spray my whole body, including my face. After a few hours in the sun, my face will start to sweat and inevitably it will run into my eyes - causing my eyes to sting & water, which is annoying. Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions for stuff to use on the face?

I use the Neutrogena spray and don't spray my face, I spray it on my hands and then rub it onto my face. Never had the problem of it getting in my eyes, but I am female and don't sweat in huge amounts......
Ugh, I wore SPF 80 on my face (reapplied it, too) plus makeup with sunscreen AND a large brimmed hat at JazzFest and I still managed to get sun on my face. Short of wearing a burkha, I'm not sure what to do!
Or...at least the less extreme version - niqab (the thing that covers the face of a muslim woman) and hijab& abbaya (covering everything else)
I've totally given up on spritzing, lotioning, zincing, etc...
Keep in mind, it is entirely possible to get a sunburn through clothing. There have been several occasions when I've been out working on the family farm, wearing a light cotton long sleeved shirt and came back later in the day a little burnt.
Be prepared. I saw in your earlier post that you have problems with stinging... If you can find anything that you can put on that won't sting you; I suggest a light coating of sunblock under your clothing.

Neutrogena Ultimate Sport Face Sunblock Lotion SPF 70 would probably be the best solution. They have a whole line of "Ultimate Sport" products that are really good for anything where you'll be wet or doing a lot of activity. Sun protection is the only thing I'm really splurging on this year so I've been doing some research.

Agreed - can't skimp on the sunblock - could ruin a 'roo! Thanks - I'll check out the sports line... Crunchy for increasing my comfort!

I wear as much ultra strong sunscreen as I can get my hands on lol. Seriously I'll apply it like 4 times a day. I'm pasty white and burn in minutes if I don't. Oh and the good ol' fishing hat helps too!

I have never used sunblock one time in my life. I live 2 min from the beach, and I think the important thing is to have a base tan, where you won't burn on top of it. Lay out at home for a few days before you go, or spend some time outside, or even go to a tanning bed.
Yes. I will be at the beach two weekends before roo, working on that base tan. I'll probably still wear some sunscreen there, just to be sure I don't burn at all, but I'm blessed with olive skin, so I'm not expecting any problems. I'm so excited for bonnaroo!!!!!!!!
Some people can get a base tan, and I think that, for them, you are absolutely right. I've tried in the past, but was unsuccessful. I just don't brown at all. I go red and, depending on the shade of red, either then fade back to approximately the original shade of white OR bubble and peel and THEN go back to the original shade of white.
It's a genetic flaw, seriously.
Fortunately, I married a guy with mixed black and white skin tone genes, so our offspring is not as afflicted as I am.
Thanks for starting this thread, I was wondering about what type of sunblock everyone used.
When I went to Roo in 2007, I used Coppertone Sport...it's waterproof and sweatproof...and I didn't get a sunburn, but I got a horrible heat rash all over my face and neck. Has anyone else ever had this happen because of sunblock?
I finally ordered 3 caftans (loose cotton for cool, but thick enough fabric to block lots o' sun) with loose sleeves I can bury my arms in. Found a 5 inch brim sunhat online that I need to go ahead and order. I won't be sexy, but I won't be a lump of pussy blisters, either...so, yay?
