Hey y'all, I'm new to Bonnaroo and the boards and I have a few questions. My friend and I are driving up from New Orleans for our senior trip for one last road trip before we head off to different colleges and we're still trying to figure out some of the details of Bonnaroo.
As I understand, you have the option of either camping by your car or hauling your stuff down to the tent-only area. I'm looking for any recommendations on which way to go. Is there one section that's better than the other? Is it worth carrying all of your stuff down to the tent only area to be a few minutes away from centeroo? How bad is the walk if you get put way out there? Does one section have a better party scene than the other?
And if you are going to tent-only, how exactly does it work? I haven't seen anything that says you buy a different ticket or anything for it, so do you just tell people when you pull up to Bonnaroo that you are going tent-only and you park in a certain area? Or does it work differently than that?
Also what and where exactly is Shakedown Street? I've seen some posts referencing it but I'm a little confused about the specifics.
Tent vs Camping by you car: If you get a good spot up close, camp by your car. If you are in BFE (and you will know it) go tent only. No ticket required. Otherwise you are looking at a 45 minute walk to Centeroo
Fakedown is close Shakedown is many places. You will stumble upon it when you least expect it and you can buy anything you want there
Hey, I will cross-post this on the FAQ thread too. I did a search on the sight and didn't find the answer.
Are there shade trees in the camping only area? I'm broke and won't be able to afford a shade canopy, so I am wondering where are my best chances of finding shade trees to camp near?

There are no shade trees in camping only. I think there are only 2 or 3 trees in all of Centeroo. And they look like this:
So find a friend with a shade tent you can borrow. Or get very creative with tarps and rope.
This is my primary concern right now as well, whether to car-camp or go with tent-only (also being my first Bonnaroo). I imagine I'll take The Druid's advice and car camp unless I'm way out in the sticks. Is there any difference in the party scene? Seems like those going tent-only might be more of the partying type, but I guess pretty much everyone that goes to Bonnaroo is down with a good time so...
I had this dilemma last year as well (it was my first Roo). My Bonnabuddy and I decided before we got in the gates that we would make the trek to tent-only if we were parked far out. And you can tell when you are being parked if you're far from Centeroo!
We did end up being parked in BFE so we made the decision to head to tent-only to see what it was like. It was a 15-20 minute walk from our car to tent-only, but it was SO worth it! There was hardly anyone set up at that point, around 9:30, so we got all the space we wanted. AND, we were only 5 minutes from Centeroo, as opposed to the 20-25 minutes we would have been from our car. We could pop back at any point during the day without it being a big deal. I'm glad we made that decision and we are actually planning on doing tent-only again this year, unless, of course. we have a stellar parking spot.
Wolfaroo, as for the party scene, I can honestly say that the people around us in tent-only did very little partying. It seemed a lot of people had just the bare essentials (tents and sleeping bags), so I think they spend the majority of their time outside of their camps. But it may just be a matter of finding the right crowd
This will be my sixth Roo, and I've always camped by my car, but I will be solo for the first time this year and am seriously thinking Camp Inforoo.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a super cheap or homemade wagon-type-thing that would allow me to easily transport a loaded cooler, tent, shade tent etc.? I don't have a wagon, my budget is close to zero. I don't want to kill myself schlepping and I will have a lot of beer and ice and frozen water. I usually bring a little luggage cart to load up with ice (will be trying dry ice this year), but I don't think it could handle a loaded cooler. Other than that I would probably be sold on Camp Inforoo.

budget to grab a golf cart taxi - at least that is what I would do

Would I be able to sling a big cooler on one of those? They didn't have them back in my day ('02-'06).
Ka mai, we put ALL of our stuff (minus one cooler and our tent) on a taxi in one trip. If you're by yourself, I'm sure you could swing it. The taxis are bigger than golf carts, they are more like those Gator things, they seat 5 people. It has two rows of seats and two seats on the back facing backwards.

Fo sho. I went last year and I had a huge duffel bag with all my Roo supplies, a 24-bottle crate of water, my tent, sleeping bag and probably something else I'm forgetting too. However, I did need to pay for an extra seat with all my stuff, which was an extra $5 (but totally worth it).
We grabbed our taxi at around 9am on Thursday morning. I would bet they start running on Thursday morning when they start letting folks in, but they probably aren't running on Wednesday night.
