Not that I even care, but my gf was asking if there were many bugs at roo. Last time I went was in 2004, so I can't remember anything but extreme heat and torrential downpour. She was insistent that I bought a shade canopy with mesh sides for protection from bugs. I bought one, with reservations, because I'm positive that I'll just fall into it and tear the whole thing down.

Haha let's just say yes. A family friend from TX came in a few years back during the summer and swore she'd never seen so many bugs that she thought would eat her in her life. It's hot and humid TN summer, def buggy. However the farm isn't too terrible because if you're a bug are you going to chill around 80000 people or the other side of that metal thing they don't go passed?
I saw a giant moth about the size of me latenight!!!it was huge, and had red eyes...come to think of it, i was the only one that saw it...thought it was gonna carry me off!!

Just get some avon skin so soft. It works great on bugs and will also help with the dryness that comes along with four days of dirt and not showering. They also make a bug guard with sunscreen. You can buy it online.
I've brought OFF every year and never used it. These are the only bugs I've seen in 7 Roos and only on the 1st day or so. Funnel spiders are all but harmless and will move on when disturbed.
(And no, I don't know why this one has only 6 legs.)

In 7 Roos, the only bugs I've noticed are little black ants. They don't seem to be the kind that bite, though, or at least I haven't ever gotten any bites. And if you keep your campsite clean -- don't spill food or soft drinks all over the place -- you probably won't even see them.

If there is a bug in the vicinity that bites or stings, it will always find me and I never have any problems at Roo. They must spray the camping areas really well, because the only thing I have seen is large spiders that move pretty fast once you start setting up camp. Never needed bug spray or citronella - even though i bought it with me.

in 2004 a buddy of mine rolled over in his sleep and ended up crushing one of those big funnel web spiders... with his forehead. He woke up with the thing still smooshed against it. Hilarious sight and a one in a million shot.
My second year I got bitten by one of those damn spiders (or something) on the inner thigh, about 4 inches away from the man parts!!! I had a big swollen spot a little bigger than a quarter that itched like a bitch! I had to make a trip to the First Aid tent and they gave me some bite relief cream that soothed the itching. Glad I didn't just roll over and die.
Some people are talking about seeing spiders like it's no big deal......spiders are what I'm most afraid of seeing. I don't care about mosquitos or grass hoppers or ants....it's the spiders that creep me out.

Oh believe me it is a HUGE deal to me. I was standing on top of the cooler, having a panic attack while I watched them come out of the grass when we were setting up the tent lol. Once we were done setting up though, I did not see another one. I can handle any other bug, snake, rodent or whatever, but spiders cause me to become a quivering mess

^Oooh, that's really rough, I have sensitive skin, too, so that's really good to know! Are you positive it's the spray and not the grass? Either way, make sure you bring some hydrocortisone cream, I like the one Aveeno makes I was planning on bringing the cream anyway because I will be totally overprepared for everything (which is OK b/c it will compensate for everyone who is not ready at all), but if what you say is true, then I will definitely need it myself!
Yeah, I saw two of those spiders last year and that was the first time I had ever seen any bugs. I did see a few flies around the vendors, but that's to be expected. I attribute the spiders last year to the rain. We had a funny night where we were trying to kill one of these spiders that was in the tent. We only had one of those flashlights you had to crank. While I was winding it trying to keep some light on the poor creature, my friend Megan was using a rubber boot like a hammer and it kept bouncing off the ground and the spider. It was pretty hilarious. I don't even want to know what our neighbors thought we were doing in our tent. lol Eventually we killed the damn thing. In the morning I woke up and saw the outline of another one on the outside of the tent right above my head. Now that was creepy!

Many other people have witnessed this creature all over the world...it just might be mothman! AHhhh! Did anything bad happen that weekend, any great tragedy?

Oh yeah and I'm from Tennessee...we have lots of bugs but the farm is one place that doesn't seem to be too over-run with any type of insects. My advice is to carry some repellent just in case...
I did actually see a giant moth, as well. My friend Megan almost stepped on it as we were walking back to camp. She picked it up and wore it on her dress for a bit before it flew away. It was sorta cool!

Yeah I see moths bigger than my hand on most nights.
Well the good news is that you are not likely to find either of the poisonous varieties on the farm. They like dark cool places, and there just are not many of those in a cow pasture.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
