We should all be thankful that Bonnaroo gives us our schedule 3 weeks to 1 month before the fest, coachella gets them 3 days before, only 3 days to stress about the conflicts is too much stress for me in such a short time. Also to me the short set times and the notion that they are fitting 10 acts on a stage or tent before midnight is why I choose bonnaroo every year. 50 minute sets are just not enough for me to get my energy going for a show, by the time im really into the show its over.
Yeah the short times are terrible. I would rather they just take off a third a give em all an extra 30 minutes. BJM, MBV, Throbbing Gristle makes an awesome sunday but besides that and McCartney who cares? Roo still gets a lot of their bands and upps the headliners. While providing a more diverse lineup top to bottom. But the most important thing is late night shows and centeroo.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver
Seriously I would never go to a 50 min. show of any of the bands that I thought were cool on the lineup, whats the point? Seems more like a exhibition of music than anything else. Some bands need and deserve much, much more.
yea, the set times suck. but it's still a good festival. i found 9-10 artists i could see every day. so you can go there and see double the bands or you can come to bonnaroo and see double the music. obviously bonnaroo is the winner there.
I would way rather see half the number of bands for longer. I am an album and show purist in that I don't listen to individual songs as much, I want the full meaning, message, story, idea, ect... Same with shows hard to fit everything in that set.
Plus I just realized this is in the wrong broad. So IBTM (In Befor THe Move)

You have to see the comparison in shows last year My Morning Jacket had an hour at Coachella, at Bonnaroo they played 4 hours while scheduled for 3. Which is the more epic my morning jacket set. Its the midnights that give bonnaroo the upper hand, Bonnaroo barely gives any artists on fri-sunday 1 hour unless they are the first act of the day, The only way I would want short sets at roo is thursday night if they wanted to fit 8 acts per stage instead of the probable 5. Also whats up with giving The Cure 2 and half hours and only giving Paul Mccartney 2 hours.
I posted it in this forum because i knew it would get more attention then in the which stage festival forum.

The short set times are just plain dumb. I have to say though there aren't any HORRIBLE conflicts on that schedule. The hardest one for me would be Atmosphere vs. Mastodon
I am so happy Im going to Roo this year! The only music im really going miss is Calexico and Fleet Foxes..I went to coachella last year and the line up was way more diverse than this year......
White Denim - 8/13-14 Power of the Riff - 9/1-2 Bruce Springsteen - 9/19 & 9/21 Gonjasufi - 9/24 Jay Z - 10/4 Animal Collective - 10/5 Swans - 10/10 GWAR - 10/16 New Order - 10/18 Squarepusher - 11/1 Bassnectar - 11/18 Neil Young & Crazy Horse - 11/27 Bonnaroo 2013 - ???
Wow. I would hate that festival. 50 minute sets as the rule! When I have a conflict now, I know that I can at least catch 30 or 40 minutes of both artists. I guess that it's either/or at Coachella. Plus, I'd hate to lose out on the magic of late nights!!!!
is it just me, or does anyone else think that The Killers are a joke of a headliner?
definitely. everyone thought they were going to add someone big last minute and they didn't. looking at the schedule, i would be at mastodon while they're playing anyway. i can see only 2 advantages of coachella. 1.the setup times are shorter and 2.they don't shut down the other stages during the headliner. everywhere else bonnaroo is better.
seeing the schedule shows me even more how little interest I personally have in this fest. Ther are so few acts I want to see and the short set times suck makes it barely even worth a band doing a set 45 mins whatever......
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
Let's hope Roo's sched isn't nearly as hostile with the conflicts.
Seriously. The conflicts are absolutely brutal. The late night sets clear up roo so much. I will make it to coachella one year though. That festival looks like a massively good time.

They've just got so much going on without the benefit of late night shows. But both Leonard Cohen and My Bloody Valentine get less conflicts than most. Leonard Cohen because he is a legend and even the artists will want to see his set, My Bloody Valentine because they are amazing and if anyone within a 5 mile radius played near them they would get drowned out.
I was surprised by how the coachella board genuinely like the set times. In terms of conflicts it's not *that* bad. Sure if I was going I would want late nights and longer set times, but Coachella has never had those.
how could they possibly place Leonard Cohen before Silversun Pickups, thats an insult to Leonard
I think it's more a matter of giving Leonard pretty much no competition and a sunset time slot, rather than them thinking Silversun Pickups are better than Leonard Cohen. No one in their right mind would think that, not even SSPU.
I do like SSPU, their new album Swoon is surprisingly replayable, but they are going up against Morrissey, who will get a large crowd, not to mention all the people waiting for Macca.

Good point here. Coachella has always had the shorter set times and no late nights, so to expect anything different would be out of place.
The only way I'll ever go to Coachella is if the three headliners are worth it because they're the only ones that get worthwhile set lengths.

Plus he has to take out his teeth and go to bed early.

QFT and karma comin your way. I've never been a show jumper at festivals unless the band is just not that great, but with all the conflicts every year it's been pretty easy to skip the stuff I don't like and catch full headliner status sets from even the lowliest bands.
Every year I forget that Coachella has such short set times until their schedule comes out. Regardless of the roster of artists, Bonnaroo will always come out on top simply based on set times. For all the reunions and hyped up stuff they usually have, it would be so utterly disappointing to have the opportunity to see Leonard Cohen or MBV or Morrissey and only get one hour out of legends that could go for at least twice that length.
Of course, as long as the people who choose Coachella are having a good time, I won't rain on their parade and it's no skin off my teeth since I'm not going, but I really doubt they know what they're missing.
