Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
This week it's back full circle to the 1st tip of the week. Let's talk about cash money. You have been saving those pennies in a 'Roo fund jar, right? Well, it's just about time to count it, roll it, and turn it into green and see if you need to pick up a job delivering pizzas for the next two months.
How much cash should you bring along? More than you might think. Let's do some math:
Food. Let's say you eat twice in Centeroo each day. Most meals cost about 8 bucks so: $8 x 2 meals x 4 days = $64.
Beer. Even though you brought 100 Natty Lights they're all back in camp. Let's say you drink 3 beers in Centeroo each day. Beer costs about $6 so: $6 x3 x4= $72.
Other drinks. Damn those lemonades taste good when it's really really hot out. They cost $5. Let's be conservative here and say you drink just one a day. It still adds up! $5 x1 x4= $20.
Art and such. There are vendors galore at Bonnaroo. T shirts, Prints, Hats, replacement sunglasses, tapestries, *cough* glassware, hula hoops, all sorts of other clothes, Jeebus knows what else..... I budget $20 per day. $20 x1 x4= $80
Other. No need to get into what I mean here.... I budget about $200 total. But, you know, that's all up to you and what you're looking for, right?
So let's add it all up. Food $64 Beer $72 N/A liquids $20 Art $80 Other $200
$436!!! Just over $100 per day!
So there ya go, tip of the week vol. 11. Bring about $100 cash per day so you're nice and comfy. The last thing you want to do is bum cash off your friends or feel strapped for cash.
You know, I might as well give this tip too: Don't carry all your money around! Lock most of it in the glovebox!!! What would be worse than bumming cash because you didn't have the forethought to bring enough? Having to bum cash because you lost your wallet. I have yet to experience tent-only so every year I've had a big secure safe at my site, my Jeep. I lock my cash and 'other valuables' in the glove box in the locked Jeep. Two locks deep.
So, locks..... Let's talk about locks real quick and call this tips of the week. I like locks. Some people don't. I lock my tent with a luggage lock with a combo. Some people feel that if you lock your tent it's more likely to get slashed. I feel that locks only 'keep an honest man honest' and if someone wants to rob you... they're going to rob you. If some drunk wook just wanders into camp while you're gone though, he's probably not going to slash your tent, he'll just look for what he can get his hands on. That's why I keep my cooler in my tent, my tent locked, anything really valuable in the locked Jeep, and the sides down on my EZ-Up when I'm going to be gone for more than a little while.... The sense of security of having enough cash for what you need and knowing that it'll still be there when you get back from that late-night show is very comforting.

lol, I thought after you crunched those numbers the tip would be "DON'T BUY FOOD, BRING YOUR OWN AND SAVE TONS OF MONEY". That's steve's tip of the year.
Along the lines of spending money....I would say (and I think it was mentioned before in the tips somewhere) dont wait until the last minute to get all of your Roo supplies. That money can add up very quickly and its better to spread it out over the next few weeks then having to get everything all at once.

One small comment I would like to add while we're on money tips. This should go without saying, but do not be enticed into playing any gambling games in the camping areas with your money. Last year was the first year I'd seen this, but there was a group of people doing the "guess which cup the ball is under" game. It was very obviously a scam in which the guy switched the ball at the last minute. I saw a guy lose every dollar he brought playing this game.

This is very solid advice. I have already made a couple of my bigger pre-roo purchases.
If you put a lock on your tent, make sure you can get it off easily. I can't imagine a worse feeling then stumbling back to you tent at 3 in the morning absolutely exhausted and having to fuddle with a lock that you can't see casue its dark as hell, or you lost the combo/key too, or you know the combo but can't figure out how to work the lock because corn has clouded your mind.

+1
The tent lock I use has a three digit combo. The combo? My birthday. Easy. Even in the cloudiest of situations.
Also, I hide a key to the Jeep in a super secret location outside just in case I lose my keys.... No, not in the bumper.... more like, on the alternator....

I agree with this too. I get paid every week and I buy a little at a time. It helps alot

My bank counts my coins for me. What kind of ghetto banks are you using? And 8% is crazy. I had planned on bringing food for breakfast and lunch, but still bringing $500.00 for goodies.

A jar
I have a frog-shaped pitcher. I started dumping it out and rolling the change on New Year's Day '09 and to date we (boyfriend and I) have just over $100 rolled up. We're splitting it and putting it towards our tickets, which means it goes in my bank account :-) so it could be used for Roo supplies in a round-about way.
I've also been checking the "Discount Roo Supplies" thread and have the items we have to buy bookmarked and ready to go for when we get paid. Pick something up when we get paid!

On the money saving tips...if you smoke and you don't mind smoking American Spirit smokes, you can get at least two packs a day free from the booth there.

Sometimes they'll give you like 5 packs at a time. Just be sure you have your driver's license with you, and they'll hook you up with free smokes for the weekend (key word: hook).

The funniest thing I ever saw was Paper Rock Scissors for a dollar.
