but, no camping, so hotel. plus airfare. and the "scene" there is nonexistent. byo corn, cuz i never saw a market stand there...
Last year, we stayed in an apartment that someone rented out and took the train (god i love their metro system) to the park. If your major concern is byo corn, then I don't think we would get along.
Meh, I find it really weak. Depeche Mode as the top headliner? They couldn't even sell out my local shed in 2001 for their Exciter tour. Did the nostalgia for bad 80's pop synth increase since then?
I would be willing to bet that around 20% of the artists you listen to or bands around today have been influenced by Violator, or their music in whole. Myself, I am not a huge fan, but you have to admit the influence of Depeche Mode.

first of all most of the sets are 1 hour only the first act of the day is 45 minutes, so 1 hour sets I can handle with the headliners given 1:30-2 hours, to me the lineup is solid and the electronica acts are hands down the best out of all the festivals Perry really locked in the best electronica you could ask for.

we staying in a hotel uptown. took the bus - it was fine. got to eat at some places i like in chicago and had some awesome breakfasts.
as far as not liking me - whatever. good. i wasnt aware this was a sXe forum.
i mentioned it because it's of interest to many people reading, other than yourself. personally, i would rather have something other than every variety of budweiser and wine in a sports bottle.

Lou quacking Reed how did Bonnaroo not get Lou seriously, and Coachella got Leonard Cohen, both of these festivals got that one act that completely stands out when you see the lineup like wow they got them I can't believe it, last year that feeling for me was Sigur Ros this year I don't have that feeling for any band there isn't one that just stands completely out I fully expected alot of the bands bonnaroo got before the lineup came out.

Uh, how about Bruce and Phish's only festival appearances? Also, I haven't seen The Mars Volta scheduled anywhere else. I know they don't compare to Lou Reed or Leonard Cohen, but that's still pretty big.
In my mind, Bonnaroo has really crushed the competition this year, by a wide margin.
^I was about to say that same thing... let's not forget about one of the finest singers of the last century, Al Green. Or the Afrobeat stuff that Roo has that no one else has... and of course The Boss and Phish.

I agree with you to a degree, BUT Roo has Phish. And to alot of people, it's the best thing you could ever ask for.
I know alot of people wish Roo could get Tom Waits, or Leonard Cohen or Lou Reed or whoever. I think both Roo and Lolla's line-ups are stellar, but I'm going to Roo

Headliners aside, this looks remarkably similar to Roo's line up. The only things from here that I really wish were at Roo are STS9, Fleet Foxes, and Davey Knowles.
But... uhh... as far as headliners go I'm going to have to say that from what I've seen this summer Lolla wins the award for the worst 3
if this festival was camping and had Phish it would blow roo out of the water, the DJ tent alone is miles beyond anything roo has ever done in that category, its really a shame that roo just cant or wont get a handle on some decent electronic music.

woooow how in the hell did I not even see that when I first looked at the lineup in the first post. Wowzas I change my first opinion on this being remarkably similar to Roo. That was before I noticed Lolla had some late night raging going on!
I want to go so bad but it's so much money! If tool, rise against, kings of leon and janes addiction were all on the same day I would by a day pass in a minute!
Oh, and keep in mind, for those who don't want to shell out tons of money for hotels, that chicago has hostels for as low as like $30 a night.

I'm far from straight edge, but I'm just saying, if Lolla not having an abundance of corn is the only reason you won't go, there's something wrong there, you know? You can enjoy music other ways. I know that I would've loved to have some corn to munch on at Radiohead last year, but alas, you're right, I couldn't find any. As far as the alchohol thing goes, I'm pretty sure they're stepping that up this year. I think they're bringing the biergarden (sp) back, and stuff like that. Of course this doesn't effect me, cause I'm underage, but this is what I heard last year.
One of my favorite memories of the entire year last year was at the end of lolla, the crowd emptying out into the streets and yelling and our yells echoing off the buildings. It was grand. Everywhere you went you saw fellow festival goers and they started up a "LOLLA!" or something, I don't remember what we were saying, but it was just great.

This is true. There's one like, 2 blocks from grant park. Don't know the price tho.

I don't think adding Phish would blow Roo out of the water, imo, but the electronic lineup alone is already enough to make me want to pay to go to lolla. You're right, it is a shame, Roo promotes diversity in music and they just can't get their shitt together regarding electronic music.

well, i mentioned the corn thing last on my list of reasons i didnt love lollapalooza - so i'm not sure how you identified it as my major reason for not wanting to go. lolla 94? maybe 93, was the first concert i ever went to on my own, so i'll always love lolla in some respects - it was my first experience with the power of live music
my major reason is the lack of camping and resulting lack of community feel at the show. there are other smaller reasons too, but the lolla daft punk show is in my top 5 concert experiences ever...so despite these things, i still had an amazing time.
having a variety of beer might be possible this year. last year they had an exclusive deal with bud - which is now owned by inBev, the largest brewing company in the world. so now instead of only bud, it would be only inBev products. if it was a multi year deal, we could see Stella, Becks or Leffe, among many others.
i did lolla last year, and i had the time of my life. and, i do believe, camping and corn do not a festival make. its about the music. and the music this year, and last is awesome. there is corn there guys, pretty accesible, as well as other things. and, the beer isn't too bad, the beer garden was decent, and at every place they sell water they also sell beer, and they also sold wine in sports bottles which were very popular.
and, i do understand what everyones saying about them finishing too early, its rough, but, thats what the aftershows are for. and, people at lolla aren't all dumb jocks or assholes, just the ones that gate crashed for rage, everyone else was awesome.
but, alas, this year i'm at roo, and stoked to see how different it is.
I'll never understand how The Killers are a headlining act, personally.
Lolla has some really unappealing top tier acts this year - of the top six bands, only one of them (Beastie Boys) excites me - but the undercard is really stellar, especially the dance acts.
I really, really, really wish Roo would get Constantines and/or Hercules & Love Affair.

As far as Lolla's top 6 vs Roo's top 6 it's not even a contest. Roo's lineup kills the competition. Dan Deacon and Fleet Foxes are the only artists that I'm jealous of that Lolla is getting. Everything else good is going to be at Roo anyway.
As far electronic goes, I'd much rather go to Europe and have a REAL good time.
You know I wasn't really impressed with it till a little while ago. Looking at that line up it's pretty nice. Not my bag with the headliners but a REAL nice undercard.
