But to think that police would be using Twitter at Bonnaroo to find shakedown is tooooooooo hilariously ridicdonkulous.
I have to disagree. I mean, no, it probably wouldn't happen...but putting that kind of info out there just makes it easier for them if they wanted to use it. Don't underestimate the police when it comes to technology + illegal activity.

Wakarusa 2006 they used hidden cameras without the knowledge of festival attendees to catch No No word dealers. Don't be so dismissive, if they'll go through that much effort you better beleive they'll read message boards or look on twitter to catch people.
Dude when they look directly at me with a camera they see me. When they go on to twitter and read a post from whenever there is no way the person would still be around. Unless they posted on twitter something to the effect of "I will be standing in this exact spot doing _____ illegal activity for these hours.". I am in no way underestimating police. I am saying that it would be a pointless way to try and catch people.

Your completly missing the point, no idiot would put all his personal info and exact location where they were dealin up for everyone to see. However, If someone does post that shakedown st. is located at ______ street, then it would be all too easy to monitor that location for an hour gather evidence then bust whatever "vendors" happened to be doing business, as well as bust those unsuspecting unlucky customers a few blocks down the road. One of those unlucky customers could end up being you. Not to mention the negative affect it would have on all other vendors once word got out, it could make it very difficult to find party favors for everyone even those who rely on the roaming vendors.
All I'm saying is when it comes to shakedown st. sometime you just gotta poke around, doesn't make much sense to declare its location for the whole world to see.
Shakedown isnt even real. I mean not real as in a secret location. Its just where a bunch of tour entrepreneurs set up shop. Hell there are probably at least 5 of them at Roo. In 04 the Shakedown that was off in the woods that most people refer to as BFE was 1000x better than the larger one(which is usually on the main road at bonaroo).
I tend to refer to the larger one where the illegal vendors selling food, bowls, hemp necklaces and that sort of thing as fakedown and it wasn't what I was referring to.
I'm fully aware that shakedown street is a fluid entity that is ever changing in size/location and that there are sometimes multiples of them. Posting even one's location could potentially put a huge damper on alot of people's day. I don't really care at this point, post what you'd like on twitter, I was just adding my 2 cents that I thought it was a bad idea.
How did this turn in to a discussion of using twitter exclusively for finding the exact locations of dealers?
Using a specific hashtag to discuss meetups, interesting stuff going on around the farm, trouble spots, searches, locations of clean porta potties.... it could all be incredibly useful.

Sorry buddy, never meant for it to happen, I was merely against one use of the hashtag then it got slightly out of hand. What you said sounds like a good idea.
With so much talk about traffic stops, road blocks, etc - this might also be a REALLY good way to get the word out about possible trouble spots.
Yes! Twitter is great for the ride! That's how we found our way arounf a flooded I-475 on the way to Rothbury last year. I always end up turning twitter off at a fest though. All those texts kill my cell battery.
Also, I have no idea what a hashtag is or how to use it from your phone.
I don't see how the police reading twitter could help them find shakedown any easier than riding around on their golf carts for 15 minutes. It usually takes me and a buddy about an hour of walking aimlessly to find it, so why would it take a squad of police with horses and golf carts any longer?
But I do agree that its pointless to tweet about shakedown. There is a lot of mystery surrounding it for the first couple days and many rooers will never find it or even know of its existence. No reason to go shouting about it to the world.
