Their new record is really, really, really good. At first I didn't see what the big deal was, but I kept playing it over and over again. It just gets better. You can definitely hear why Byrne picked this band, as they remind me a lot of early Talking Heads, just more unhinged.

I don't really think there is anything to get, you either like it or you don't but these guys def took a little time to grow on me when I first started getting into them. At first listen I was more just intrigued than anything else and the more times I listened to their first album the more I loved it and its really the same way with this new album for me as well. Upon first listen I was kinda skeptical of the female singer but upon further listens this album is as of right now my fav of 09 so far.
Oh also I wouldnt recommend watching youtube clips of these guys, get your hands on an album and listen to it all the way through if you can, if you can't they're prob just not for you.
i like this music. out of all the new additions i havent given any of them a fair listen until yesterday and the Dirty Projectors are the only ones that i'm interested in.

Yeah Bitte Orca is sitting comfortably as my number 2 record of the year so far (behind Animal Collective). It's so many things at once, without being totally overwhelming. It's catchy, funky, and bizarre, has amazing vocals, and is without a doubt the most rhythmically interesting album I've heard in I can't remember how long.
I like the Dirty Projectors. Only listened to Bitte Orca so far, due to the seriously catching "Stillness is the Move." I actually like that song. Definitely one for the bands for me to see.

So yeah, gave these guys a listen and am now almost definitely seeing them. They fit in real well with the elsewhere discussed Animal Collective->Grizzly Bear->TVOTR day I was already planning, and they're just really dang cool. The this week, NPR put up the Dark Was the Night concert for their All Songs Considered podcast and it rules.
So my question is: what do you think is the likelihood of David Byrne showing up for a few songs? It would help me feel better about missing him for Beasties, that's for sure.

The Dirty Projectors were my favorite unfamiliar band this year. I hadn't heard of them before roo, and I really dug their set. They get two thumbs up and a cheesy grin.
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."
