So I just bought a new dome tent on eBay and my buddy told me I should invest in some seam sealer to further waterproof it. Anyone know more about these products? Tips?
I always seam seal my tents before every trip. You can buy it at Wal-Mart or probably any outdoor store. It comes with a spongie aplicator tip on the end and you just slide it along your seams. It just helps build a little more vapor barrier. If your rainfly has seams you could also seal them. I don't know if it makes a difference because I've always done it, but have never had a leak in my tents. *knock on wood*
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo

Definitely seam seal. We always go overkill on the weatherproofing since we camp alot and down south we get a lot of rain. Last year at Rothbury, we saw tents identical to ours that were completely soaked through, while ours was bone dry.
I just did this to mine. Read a few reviews of my tent online and they weren't very positive when it came to holding up in the rain. I have an Ozark Trail 8x9 dome tent and so far it hasn't rained when I've gome camping with it in the past and wanted to be sure I stay dry. I seamed sealed the inside a few places then sprayed the whole thing with waterproof spray. Got it all from Wal-Mart. I think the sealer was $3 and the spray was $4. Pretty cheap.

it is a must have. should be in the camping section. will be water proofing spray or a silicone spray. if you can't find it at Wally World look at local sporting goods store.

You say it's a must have but I've read that with any halfway decent brand new tent you'd do more harm spraying it on as they are pretreated from the factory. Seam Sealer is the only thing I've read is a must...
^^I did both the year I camped. Be careful with the seam sealer, I got that junk all over the place and then tried to wipe it down...I ended up turning my tent a mess, there were white sponge streaks everywhere...
Use the amount you need on the seams, dont worry about over doing it.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
I did a few seems, but not everywhere. The bottle said to seal the seams on the INSIDE of the tent.
I found everything in the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart. I used to work there so I know the store like the back of my hand. As an associate if you can't find what you are looking for. Should be in the same Isle as the Tents.

We just put the second coat of waterproof on the tent this weekend. Warning though, I got a leaky can and the shit smells and bonds to your skin like Elmers Glue. Just make sure you do it somewhere with some ventilation and no smoking!
Just sealed up the seams on my new 1 person tent (my tent from last year was stolen, long story). It's drying in the yard right now. The excitement is really starting to set in... ;D
So I asked on the Roo boards a while ago, but I should ask in here. Whats the difference between seam sealer and waterproofing spray? And do you have to use a spray that only is meant for tents or are they all pretty much the same consistency?
I have 2 seam sealers I bought. Never got around to returning the more expensive one from Sports Authority, but I kinda think the idea of spray is easier. Do you use the spray everywhere or only along seams?
