^My understanding is that the spray is more for the tent (exterior) body and the underside of the tent. The seam sealer is thinker and is used to make a waterproof "glue-like" surface on the inside of the seams.
If you have both use both. Better safe than sorry. I had soggy tent syndrome after the Thursday night deluge last year. I would have paid much more than the cost of those two items to have had that not happen.

Seam sealed just the rain fly of my eureka! last year, and only got one drop inside my tent, and that was only from condensation. For Bon, I think there's a few main things people should be looking at/for: Bathtub floor tents. (Floor of the tent is one piece of material that comes up inches off of the ground, so that pooling water outside does not = water inside) -Seal the rain fly, and other major spots that might be exposed.
I really don't think proofing the outside is worth the effort, nor would I suggest sealing the entirety of the internal seams.
^The bathtub tent floor is absolutely true if you camp a lot. However, for those that are buying cheaper tents (and I think this constitutes a critical mass), seam sealing the inside of seams that contact the ground is still a good idea.

Truth. But! You can get bathtub floors on cheaper tents, you just hafta be looking for em Truth is, most people don't know about them, but with a little heads up ... never know. Hopefully it'll save a few from gluing their hands to the floor of their tent, lol.

I just opened up the canopy (EZ UP) for the first time since July 4 of last year. Like an idiot I took it to the beach and then didn't set it up again until now. It had a few worn spots in the fabric, and I patched them with Coleman's tent repair kit (Wal-Mart $4). Sealed it up perfectly; waterproof again. I recommend this kit for those needing minor repairs for camping items.
i have to seam seal and spray this week. last year i missed some shows b/c there was water coming through the seams on thurs. night. not having that problem again.
seam sealed every seam and waterproofed the inside and outside of the tent twice. Should do the trick. First year actually waterproofing stuff. Never really thought of it before.

If you have a good tent, it's not a must but it can't hurt. I'm sealing my this weekend. My son loves when I set the tent up in the yard. He'd sit in that thing all day if I let him.

I'm doing my tent for Waka this weekend...it's held up 3 Bonnaroo's so far with no rain on the inside, but I'm too nervous and think I need to do it again.
For real - do it, you won't regret it. After witnessing others' tents get soaked and/or collapse from rain last year, I was certainly thankful for my dry tent!
I just bought a bottle from Walmart for 1/2 price. This is the first time I have sealed. How long do I need to let the sealer dry before taking down my tent.
And wow, you're like a walking, talking infomercial to turn people away from Pearl Jam and Ohio State, aren't you? Before you started posting here I quite liked Pearl Jam and was indifferent towards OSU, now I find myself wishing that Eddie Vedder falls down a mine shaft or that Columbus is infested with locusts

til it's dry to the touch. I finally got my tent sealed today. I started sealing the ezup and it started raining. My son and I sat under the ezup during the downpour and I am going to have to reseal it. It had a couple of leaks, small but would be annoying if I was sleeping under it on a cot. It's amazing how worn out the nylon is after one year of use.

For those that are contemplating whether they need to waterproof, it's better to do it and not need it than not do it and wish you had. It sucks waking up in a puddle.
I'll be seem sealing and waterproofing both my tents this weekend.
This is our fourth Roo and we have never seal sealed but waterproof once a year. We've stayed dry for all so hopefully it stays the same this year as well. Gotta do the spray soon...
for those of you who are having a hard time doing this due to rain in your area you could try this idea. when i use my tent and i need to dry it out before storing it, i lay it out upstairs in my attic area. theres plenty of room and dry heat there. its not in the way there eithre and its a good place to roll it up without getting it dirty on the ground outside. if you dont have an attic think of someone who does have attic space and see if they will let you borrow it.
Backpacker has a good article here. I thought you usually put the sealer on the inside, but apparently it depends on the brand. We've just done the inside without any problems.
