This is my first thread and I just registered for an account, long time listener first time caller. Err...you get the point. This will be my second 'roo, and I have something I'd like to get some opinions on. Last year my group was myself and 3 friends. We had some shade and a tent (our setup had a few flaws, but that's a different story). This year I'm going back with a slightly bigger group, but only myself and one of the guys from last year that will be riding and camping together. We were talking about it and were thinking about trying something a little different. We were talking about just having a shade tent, EZ-UP type thing, and sleeping on cots under that. Tents so quickly become ovens in the morning, this would seem to be a little cooler. Plus, cots work as seats/couches during the day. So what are some thoughts on this? Thanks!

My only concern would be if it started raining, you'd need to make sure you wouldn't get wet, and if the wind is blowing as well that may be hard to do with just an EZ-Up and walls. I'd bring a tent just in case.

Yeah, my thoughts on the rain thing is that walls on the EZ-UP, but we'd have a tent in case. If it started raining in the night I figure we could just move to the car, and go from there in the morning, and if it was raining hard before we went to sleep we could just put the tent up and use that. But just in general, idea seem alright?
Yeah I'd be worried about rain. All our neigbors camps were like lakes after last years rain, For some reason our little corner of Earth stayed dry. You could alway try some battery operated fans in your tent if you decide against the cot idea. they kept me pretty cool last year.
i had a portable hammock last year and it was great. i got plenty of sleep cause i wasn't baking in the morning heat. as others have said the only downside is if it rains. the one night it rained it got kinda cold so i slept most of the night in the van which wasn't so bad, but if i had to do that every night i would of been pissed. so yeah i would suggest having a tent just in case.
The idea seems just fine to me. If I were you though I would set up the tent on Thursday whether or not you think you'll really use it. I know that if it started downpouring I would not want to try to set up a tent in that. Plus you never know if you'd want to use it for a little privacy or if you need a box to heat up.
