I cant for the life of me figure out why the H1N1 flu thread was locked. There was no malicious fighting and I think it was doing much more good than bad. But anyway, NYC has postponed their Cinco De Mayo festival due to fear of a large outbreak.
While the article explains that things are actually getting better the WHO has warned of a second wave. The festival draws more than 850,000 people! That pretty insane by itself if you ask me. Thats like every Bonnaroo put together.
Threads don't have to violate rules to be locked. They are locked at the mods discretion. Thanks for your concern.
Will the mod consider unlocking the thread if any official announcement, either by festival organizers or state offices, is made concerning flu and Bonnaroo?
As for the Cinco de Mayo celebration in NY City, it is a fairly loose collection of several parades and community festivals, some of which are being suspended while others are scheduled to continue. Some of the suspended events said purchased tickets are good for rescheduled events, or can be refunded.
Nice move taking one of the hottest threads on the main board and stuffing into a pizza box on the 3rd shelf in the back of the fridge.

Hey, mod, danbird, an off-topic personal question if I may... I checked your profile and see you go to Temple University. Does Samuel Delany still teach there? He is my favorite author of all time.
Wouldve made more sense to unlock the other thread and add this to it. Nobody asked for the thread to be locked and it didnt violate any of the rules.
The lock wasn't even anticipated; no IBTL premonitions, no overt warnings, only one suggestion it be moved to another forum, which was successfully defended against. And, the subject of the locked thread is still an open question.
Alan Johnson, the British Health Secretary, made a positive comment where he mentions Glastonbury, "We aren’t stopping sporting events. We would have to be in a pretty dire situation to close cinemas and theatres. There is an issue about morale. You can book your ticket for Glastonbury. We need to be a lot further down the track to stop football matches. We have had no deaths here. I feel Wimbledon will be safe.”
