So, I know this has been discussed in this forum, but the search feature is failing me.
Gentlemen, let's talk about underwear.
My last Roo was in '06 and it seems like there has been a revolution in the battle against chaffing, with Under Armour replacing Gold Bond as the miracle cure. Under Armour is pricey! $20 for one pair of underwear! If I am going to wear a pair a day this has a significant impact on my Bonna-budget.
So please share: Are there any deals out there? Does it have to be Under Armour brand? There are suggestively named 4", 6" and 9" varieties....I can't think of a way to word this question that won't invite sarcasm and humor.....any thoughts on which underwear leg length is preferable to wear?
The mid-thigh (6") pairs are the ones I swear by. Plenty of coverage to prevent chaffing, and generally arent visible beneath your shorts. As far as other brands or deals go - I'm sure companies like Nike make comparable products, but I've never tried them. I would guess the prices are going to be about the same, so I would just invest in the UA.
Oh and btw, GoldBond + UA = Bonnaroo walking/dancing bliss.

I work at a golf course, so it's a pretty active day with a lot of running around and lifting etc. and I find that any boxer-briefs work to prevent chafing. Just make sure you get a size that actually fits you so their are fairly tight against the legs. They work great from my experience.
Under armour has gotten me through 3 fests so far, and I'll never go back. You would want to get them long enough to cover any area prone to experiencing friction- to avoid chaffing. Haven't seen any deals on them, a quick search showed everyone selling them for 24.99. If it matters, they are worth it. It looks like most athletic companies have jumped on the compression short bandwagon...Nike, Adidas all around the same price. I saw them on sports authority's website - but I'd imagine that all major sports retailers have them.

Not a male, but may I suggest just looking at different stores' store brand? "Bike shorts" I believe is what they're called... I know Wal*Mart and Target both have their own brand, as well as Academy and Dick's Sporting Goods... just a thought to save a buck or two? I know my 'Roo boy bought his at Target, haven't heard any complaints from him.

I must not have gotten the right length because the last time I wore UA knickers I ended up getting chaffing at the end of the leg bit, like it was rubbing my other leg...I think I liked plain knit boxers better.
the 6" is fine. i find the 9" tend to pull themselves downward a little - defeating the purpose. the 3", well, that's just silly - seems like a pair of tighty whities.
avoid cotton. that's my only advice. ive got some from... hrm, target - my first foray into boxer briefs. terrible. get all sweaty and bunch up. that's the real benefit here - the UA will not bunch up - ever. you put them on and they stay there, all day long.
they dry super easy, you could probably wash them at your camp at night with a little water and soap. i bet you could make it thought the whole roo with 2 or 3 pairs, if you washed one at night and swapped with a clean / dry one.
it's an investment your crotch will thank you for.

Jock itch Definition By Mayo Clinic staff
Jock itch (tinea cruris) is a fungal infection that affects the skin of your inner thighs, buttocks and genitals. Jock itch causes an itchy, red, often ring-shaped rash in these warm, moist areas of your body.
Jock itch gets its name because it is common in people who sweat a lot, as do athletes. It also often occurs in people who are overweight, but anyone — even women — can get this infection.
Although often uncomfortable and bothersome, jock itch usually isn't serious, except possibly for people with weak immune systems. Keeping your groin area clean and dry and applying topical antifungal medications are usually sufficient to treat jock itch.
I bought some UA but I have never, ever had any chafing issues at any time in my life. Is this a common problem amongst men?
I have the problem where if I am wearing the wrong thing, the seams or whatever will start to rub on my thighs. This can easily ruin your whole day, and you end up walking all bow-legged.
Gold Bond somehow alleviates and prevents this from happening, but also I like to test drive any clothes that I am going to wear by walking around the neighborhood or mall and seeing if I can anticipate a problem.

i have a pair of somona boxer briefs that fit really comfy and i work in them and sweat my ass off, but have no problems with chaffing. they're spandex or something.
Another vote for under armor here. I use them for jogging and really, running is the only time I've had chaefing issues.... but..... no need to let issues arise when you have a preventive solution right? Oh, and please please change the title of this thread to Manderpants. That's what I read every time anyway!

My man has skinny chicken legs, but he got chaffed last summer. He was working outside in 100 degree heat wearing jeans, boots, t-shirt, vest, and hard hat. He did this and went up and down 20 flights of stairs all day. So yeah, it takes something pretty extreme for the chafing to happen. It's not exactly in the junk just around it, and god is he lucky to have me. I spent the next 2 days rubbing zinc oxide (good to bring if you do chafe, very soothing) all over him.
Now, despite that experience, he is basically refusing to wear boxer briefs. I think he might be OK, since the only time he had a problem, it was really extreme conditions. I know he'll be willing to do gold bond or baby powder, but he'll still be in regular boxers. I really hope he doesn't chafe though. It's awful, he didn't want to move at all, it hurts to touch any of the affected area. Sorry this was so long, hopefully it's helpful in some way

I have wore UA the part two 'roos and can honestly say they have saved my life both times. As much as I walked and sweated I would have been in a wheelchair by Saturday night had I not had them on.

I hesitate to give away my dirty secret (in multiple senses), but my strategy is to wear my bathing suit (board shorts) every day, no underwear necessary. First off, it provides the ultimate cooling system. Second, it's the most lightweight and comfortable solution (save perhaps a sarong... or nudity). The inner netting gives me enough support and (along with GB) does well to prevent chafing. I pack shorts and underwear, but when it gets down to actually shuffling from tent to stage to tent for hours in the hot sun, wearing that bathing suit is the best way to make it easier on myself. Is it weird to wear it four days straight? Yes, but once a year it's worth doing.
UA Boxer Jocks are the best! I buy a couple pairs whenever Dicks sporting goods puts out a 10 off 50 coupon! Its all i wear anymore, and I figure my fellas are worth the extra money!
Dude, I seriously can't concentrate on anything but bonnaroo right now. . .It's to the point where I'm poking myself in the eye with foreign objects. . . I think I just need to be sedated until Tuesday. . . . Dystopian Dream

I'm with steveternal, I wear trunks a lot....the netting gives you plenty of breathability, plus quick drying ability for that quick dip in the fountain or standing under mist tents for long periods.
That said, I swear by gold bond, but not only for the "crotchal region"....it keeps my feet from getting blistered and sticky in my chacos, too!
