Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
In the past, I have left cell phones behind at Bonnaroo and been content to use MP3 players until one charge died. As I grow more dependent on these things, I wonder about recharging them at Roo.
Two questions:
-I have heard that there has been some kind of "charging tent" the last few years. Is this a viable option for cell phones? Long wait? Compatible with various brands (Samsung in my case)?
-What about using some kind of adaptor for your car? I have seen soooo many people need a jump to get out of Roo on Monday morning and have always made it a policy to not try to get electricity from my car while it is not running. Are there any viable options these days for charging stuff from my car without pumping C02 into the camp ground?
I have a phone, iPod and rechargeable iPod speakers that I would like to be able to charge while at Roo, in a perfect world I would contemplate bringing my laptop, so any thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.
Of course, I will have no problem leaving all of that shizz at home and detaching from the grid if there isn't a convenient option available.

I got a car adapter off ebay for about $3. Check there.
Your cell phone will draw so little power it will have no affect on the car battery. I know nothing about the iPod speakers though. You'd probably be okay though.
But bring some jumper cables and there will be plenty of people around to jump you, worst case.
If you have your car (cigarette) charger for your phone and iPod that should work fine. The current draw for the items mentioned are minimal. If you are worried about your battery being dead come Monday, start the car each day while charging for 10 min.
To charge your laptop or camera batteries, like other posters have mentioned a inverter will work fine. You might want to consider letting your car run longer if using one while charging.
Or, if you get a power inverter, stop by autozone and get a $19 lawn tractor battery, charge it and use it to recharge stuff. It should last all weekend with the stuff you mentioned.

This is something I had been thinking about this year also. Previously, I never cared about keeping my phone around - just another reminder of the "outside". But, this year I will be returning for the first time since having my son, and I KNOW I'll be checking in frequently.
Glad someone started this thread because I was curious myself!
i picked up an inverter so i can charge my camera battery and also charge the laptop if it dies while emptying the memory cards. not too worried about the cell since i will have kiddo/husband with me and if the dog sitter has any problems she has been instructed to call my mother since there'll be little i can do from 800mi away. very paranoid about killing the car battery so i'd planned on starting/running the car a little each day just to be on the safe side. i wonder if neighbors will think i'm a dick?

i'm wondering the same thing - i really want to charge my cell phone to keep in touch with the necessary people back home and for emergencies... i just am wondering if my neighbors will be annoyed if i run my car 5-10m a day? any opinions? lol
This should be more than sufficient to keep my phone and camera batteries charged up, as well as providing power for a little laptop internetting if I feel the need to upload some pics right away or something. Best of all, there's no worry about the car's battery.
My neighbors will be welcome to charge their phones as well.

They have a cell phone charging station. I charged my phone in 07 at said tent. If you want to use this, I would advise going in the morning; the lines are always quite long.
If you are just charging a cell phone, you should not have to worry about your car battery being dead after just four nights. Probably not even if you are using an inverter to charge a camera battery.
Running an inverter for charging laptops, running fans, etc... then you'll for sure want to run the car for about 10 mins a day if you are running the inverter alot.
If you find your car battery is dead, and you can find me, I'll be more than happy to give you a jump.
awesome thanks guys! hopefully the laptop will hold out without needing much of a charge if at all. but if i need a jump i'll be the one in family camp wearing my jumper cables rambostyle. when you're done laughing at that jzor i will gladly mooch your battery. :-)
If you happen to see me, just come on over and charge it with me. I can't be held responsible for lost or stolen items ect. but especially in the morning with so much free time anyone is welcome to come on over and charge as much as they want (assuming there is some sun that weekend and doesnt rain the whole time )
For serious
P.S. Please have your own car charger, a usb plug or bring one of the cheap inverters linked here. I only have so many plugs.
