Does not compute. I have trouble seeing a pair of shoes as "ugly". They are shoes... a utilitarian object. It's about function. And with that in mind, Crocs are just about the perfect shoe for Bonnaroo. They are: lightweight - just all around helpful porous - keeps you cool in that Tennessee sun durable - can take a beating and won't fail you comfortable - never worry about straps rubbing raw, toes being pinched or arches aching from too much standing cheap - if somehow they are trashed or lost, just get another pair for $30! waterproof - possibly the biggest plus. I remember last year, Saturday late night after the rainfall, going to The Other Tent for Chali 2na. People were packed against the left side of the tent where it was dry, and a huge open space towards the front filled with mud. I just stood in the mud with a terrific view of the music. When I left I washed my shoes/feet in the fountain; good as new.
I wore Birk sandals my first four Bonnaroos before switching to Crocs. Don't make the same mistake I did by waiting so long.
I had a pair of Birks when I was in high school ... HATED those things. They were not comfortable, to me.
But, to those who are turned off by their appearance, screw it... they're the most comfortable, durable thing you can have on your feet and it be considered appropriate for most occasions.
^Or my GF, she danced all night at Shpongle in high heels, and then drovev home in them. I was wearing crocs, and my feet were sore. She will always take form over function in shoes.

This makes me wonder about dancing in them i am a high steeping fool when i dance no pain for me. no SIR

Go tell that to a woman in a shoestore
Hey now, I'm a lady and I work for a dagum shoe company... and I wear the same pair of sandals pretty much everyday during the summer (my Birkenstocks in the winter) cause they're comfy! They're quite possibly hideous to those in my office but I work with shoe snobs, whaddya expect. The only time I break out the heels are when I go out man-huntin'
I'm trying to get over the ugliness but I've tried a few pairs on and they are way uncomfortable to me. Is there a difference in the name brands? the ones I tried were in walmart and target, maybe they're not "official" crocs? They feel hard, sharp, too wide and just awkward. I guess I'm just a flip flop/sneaker person.

^^^No, wrong. Even as cheap as Crocs are, name-brand does make a difference. I know people who cought knock-off brands and suffered for it. Don't know why, but genuine Crocs will be more comfortable.

they are made of a different kind of plastic/rubber stuff

I have faux-crocs which I bought at an Outdoors store for $20 and they work all the same to me. They're actually Waldies, which I suppose actually is more fun to say than crocs... but I just call them crocs to save the explanation. Either way, they work quite well for all my camping and festie needs.
