Was just thinking - sleep is going to be important, but I can definitely foresee having a hard time falling asleep due to adrenaline and/or loud neighbors.
Has anyone brought Tylenol PM or some other sleep aid in the past to help you fall asleep? With all of the booze etc is it not a good idea?

Depending on how long you plan on sleeping, I say it's a bad idea. All sleep aids are for a recommended 6-8 hours of sleep, and (unless you know for a fact it won't) will usually keep you snoozin' for about that long. Even if you do happen to wake up when you plan, it leaves ya feeling groggy the rest of the day. Although, there are some all natural supplements that work just as well without all the crap that comes along with pharmaceutical stuff... Melatonin is the best, in my opinion. You can get it at any health food store or evil Wal*Mart or Walgreen's. Taking it with milk (Tryptophan) especially helps. California poppy is also very good but harder to find. I just say go with the melatonin/ milk/ear plug combo.

I thought I would have trouble sleeping but you get so worn out during the day it was not an issue. As for loud neighbors buy the little foam ear plugs at Walgreens or Walmart. They don't shut all the noise out but most of it. They work wonders at Bonnaroo for the annoying loud drunk girls outside of your tent....
I would not take Tylenol PM and drink alchohol personally.
Serious Warning: Never take acetimenophen(Tylenol) or products containing acetimenophen while comsuming alcohol. I had a products liability case in which a woman regularly drank very moderate amounts of alcohol while taking sinus products containing acetimenophen. Within two weeks she died of renal/hepatic failure. this was not an isolated case and the manufacturer was aware of the danger. this rant was a public service announcement by me.
Tylenol PM contains tylenol (duh) and benadryl (an antihistamine for allergies and itching)
The benadryl causes some sedation, but not much. The tylenol with alcohol will kill you liver over time and you will be looking for a liver transplant like David Crosby, but without the money to buy it
This public service announcement was brought to you by a pharmacist
I recently took a trip to Australia and bought some Simply Sleep (TylenolPM without the Tylenol) for the flight across the ocean. I upped the dose by 50% and only ended up getting probably 4 or 5 hours of sleep after taking that stuff.
I agree with dreamingtree, you're normally so worn out by the end of the day that sleep isn't usually a problem.... unless Kayne West decides to play at sunrise
If your body needs sleep, it will sleep. Just listen to it very carefully.
kanye came on as my head hit the pillow - and in vip, it was LOUD. i think i heard half a song and i was out.
melatonin would be the hardest sleeping aid i would take a roo - and probably half a pill. like others said, you are not getting 8 hours of sleep, not by a longshot - so you dont want to wake up and be all fuzzy from sleeping pills. better to be fuzzy from other things
Hell, Kanye woke me up in BFE last year... but like everyone else is pretty much saying, unless you're a super light sleeper, you're going to pass out as soon as your head hits the pillow. If you're not worn out after a day at 'roo, you're not doing it right.
I am not trying to sound like a drunk or anything like that, but am I the only one that believes in drinking heavily and passing out at festivals? I'm not talking about drinking yourself to death, but a couple pulls of whiskey and I'm out like a light for a good 5 hours minimum. Obviously make sure you drink plenty of hydrating fluids before you start to rage once you are up.
Tylenol PM does nothing for me other than make me feel extremely shitty when I wake up. Way shittier than any possible hang over caused by my methods of getting solid sleep.
If you don't already do this sorta thing, don't start...I'm just surprised no one else does this at festivals. I need to me OUT in order to get any meaningful sleep with the noise and the heat.
Well, you're not really getting quality sleep under that scenario. After going all day, I didn't really have any problem falling asleep...it's was the usual suspect of that morning blasted heat that got me up.

This was also posted in the What Stage area. Anywhoodle I wouldn't recommend Tylenol PM with alcohol could be a major problem. Try melatonin or Tylenol PM at home first to see how you react and how much you need to get sleep. Due to other medicine I tend to have problems falling asleep, I take the generic Advil PM at the lowest dosage and it does work - full 8 hours of sleep but it still can make you groggy. So my .02 would be to try something herbal or natural and hope for the best. I think this year will be the first year I get ear plugs I'm just getting too old to deal with young kids who can't handle their liquor or corn.
I really like Ambien. Puts me out, no hangover (even w/moderate alcohol), and I sleep through most anything. It is a prescription, though, and I would def. try it out before using it at a festival. Results may vary.

Ah yes the Tylenol P.M. works wonders. The past three Bonnaroos I have been to I have taken Tylenol P.M. with getting only 3-4 hours of sleep and it was the best sleep I could possibly get considering the atmosphere. When I woke up I felt refreshed. Also, if you are whacked out of your mind it, as I was, it works awesome. I highly recommend Tylenol P.M. You will not be dissapointed

No offence to the people saying just being tired will put you to sleep, but that's just not true for everybody and it has nothing to do with not doing Roo right or your body automatically being able to sleep if it needs rest. Being at Bonnaroo doesn't magically cure all insomnia.
Melatonin works well but in my experience only for a few days before your tolerance gets too high, so try it out now, then lay off of it till you get to Roo. If you aren't drinking much, you have more options (valium works best for me because it puts me to sleep but not for 8 hours) but if you are drinking, NO TYLENOL for the sake of your liver and be very careful with any other sedatives, too. Earplugs are essential, or headphones/earphones if you have some that are comfortable enough to fall asleep in - some relaxing music of your own that also blocks out the noise outside can really do the trick.
Tylenol PM gives me one heck of a hangover for whatever that is worth. However if you want to drink, and still have sleepy stuff try a Zyrtec, or the Nyquil (Cough only) formula that does not have any acetaminophen in it.

I simply just don't sleep at festivals until it's an utter necessity. It's amazing how fast you'll fall asleep when you stumble back to your tent at 7 am and lie down and close your eyes. No loud neighbors will keep you up, and if your adrenaline is still pumping, that means there's still more fun to be had before sleep

Haha, too true! I just remember being just about to fall asleep, then all of a sudden... WHAM!! Kayne West super loud, I had been at Ghostland Observatory and didn't even realize Kayne didn't play on time... I was sooooo confused, my poor brain was already overloaded!!
As far as sleep aids... I would say a nice fan, and some ear plugs!
I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.

As a girl with major back problems and insomnia - I find gentle sleep aids a god send at Bonnaroo. However, avoid Tylenol of any kind if you are going to be imbibing the alcohol. Rather, opt for Advil PM if before bed. Same basic idea, just none of that liver-wrecking acedtamwhateveryacallit.

Diphenhydramine works for me, it is most commonly marketed by the name "Benadryl". One pill puts me right to sleep and it has antihistimines to help you breathe while you sleep.
Yeah - I'll avoid Tylenol PM. I think you're right about the 'rage til you fall' stuff, but I guess I'm also hoping that some kind of sleep aid would help me get an extra hour or two of sleep once the sun/heat comes out.
I'm thinking I'll avoid the sleep aids - thanks for the info though, and I hope this is helpful for other people too

I second all of this. And, I like your name. Dreaming Tree is one of my favorite tunes.

DANI!!!! hi there *waving madly* you gonna make it this year?
Sleep aids are very important at bonnaroo, atleast for me. Tylenol PM would not be the best choice though. Like someone posted above, acetaminophen can be toxic on the liver, and if you take too much, you will have get very bad stomach aches and pains. Tylenol PM is just Diphenhydramine (which is benedryl) and regular tylenol. So if you plan on the the PM, just take some regular benedryl instead (no toxic acetaminophen in it).
However, your best bet would be some sort of natural sleep hormone like meletonin. Buy a bottle the next chance you get (it is over the counter) and start taking it a few weeks before bonnaroo. It takes a while for meletonin to register in your body. Plus, you wont have any nasty hangovers or strange feelings from taking meletonin, since its all natural.
But, Unless you are an insomniac like me, you probably will not need any sleep aids. By the end of the day, after walking miles in the sun, and the very late nights, you probably wont have an trouble falling asleep.
I take plain ol' benadryl once in a while to fall asleep. It works great and I don't feel weird in the morning. I don't see how Tylenol would help at all, except to charge more money and slap a brand name on it. Generic benadryl is cheap as all get out and works.
