I figured this year we might try making a beer run on Saturday morning, thereby eliminating the need for a cooler or two. Obviously, you can drive somewhere, but is there anywhere within walking distance, and have some of you done this before?
^I was thinking bout that too. I might have to drive a few miles down the road to find an establishment with beer. They only get restocked once a week, I think...

At Bonnaroo '07, my friends and I decided that we would wait to buy beer when we got there. Unfortunately we pulled an all-nighter driving from Alabama and ended up at a near by gas station that wouldn't sell beer until 8 AM. That would put us way behind in line, so we decided to buy some once we got into Bonnaroo. Bad idea - a case of Bud Light was $60!!!! So of course, we opted for making a trek to the nearest place to get beer. Turns out the nearest place is a gas station about 4 miles away (Wal-Mart is even further). Me and 4 of my friends headout out. Getting there was ok, but carrying a case of beer all the way back was rough. They even had some locals that were camped out at the gas station willing to give ppl rides back to the entrance if you would pay them $10.
We made it back tired and worn out - walking a total of 9 miles, half of the time carrying a case of beer. We laugh about it now, but the crazy thing is it was so hot that year, half of the beer didn't even get drunk because of the heat: beer+heat = bad headache.
So it's up to you. Personally, I'd bring as much as I can (buy it BEFORE you leave), and if you must leave to get more, drive!!!! You'll thank me later!
In VIP they let you leave and re-enter so we just buy ice and beer daily from Wal-Mart for far cheaper than inside the fest. We have never had a problem getting beer from Wal-Mart as they do a good job stocking up a ahead of time.

^You may think so. But, if you bring in 1\2 the beer warm, then around Saturday you will need to purchase ice to chill it. The ice, by Saturday, is $7 a (small) bag and half-melted. I think a quick car ride (or walk) off the grounds for beer and ice is warranted.

I remember the ice being $3 a bag. It was right out of the ice truck also. I have a 70 quart cooler, it will hold 5-6 bags with beer.
In 07 we needed to make a run from VIP. We went to Walmart and got a quick bite from krystal or somewhere and were back sitting at our campsite in around 30 minutes.
It's easy to get in and out for a quick run from VIP, but I would not attempt it from GA. Although it is kind of fun roaming around Walmart all dirty and stuff and having the local grocery shoppers stare at you
In 04 I was camped close to a road in general camping and was able to get my car out to make a beer run. However with everyone walking in the roads it can be a real pain to make it off site. I highly recommend freezing water bottles and bringing warm beer. Also a five day cooler works really well in the bonnaroo sun! If you do decide to drive to the nearest store to buy more beer here is something to consider: The past few years I have made a trip to the closest gas station and filled my SUV with hundreds of bags of ice. Then I sold it in the BFE areas of the campground were the walk for ice was long. I sell the bags for less than bonnaroo and deliver to peoples camp sites so they didn't have to go anywhere. In one hour I made roughly $200 profit, and I saved lots of people money and energy. If possible I will do the same this year
We make our runs to Wal-Mart in the morning after it gets too hot to sleep and before the music starts. Very good time to do it as you are already up, are still sober, and would otherwise just be lounging around your camp site waiting to head in to centeroo.

^^^ In 04 I was under 21 and had no problem at all. They dont ask for id when you arive to camp with liquor. I have never been asked to show id in centeroo eather. However if you look young I could see them asking.

I can do pretty much all "cheap" beers except for Keystone and Natty. I don't know what it is about them, but they're awful. I also recommend Southpaw for a cheap drink...
