According to the FBI bulletin, public statements by al Qaeda leaders suggest that plans for a U.S. attack were nearly complete, and that any of several upcoming high-profile events were possible targets.
I wouldn't think they would do anything at Bonnaroo.... would they?
Im kinda worried but Im still going to enjoy the festival.
In my paranoid little head I had similiar thought 90,000 people concentrated in a small area.............fairly lax security...........but then I got ahold of myself, I sounds like they are intent on influencing the elections so I would think their target would be more of a political nature. Those are my rambling thoughts! Certainly not going to let it spoil my time
Knowing the crowd that will be at Bonnaroo.....Al Queda may set up a recruiting booth, but not target for an attack. Most of the people at this fest are fed up with G.W. Bush and the American Policies in general, so this would be a perfect place to corrupt wooks.
It would be much cheaper to just give a wook a towel for their head and a strap on bomb than to transform a short-hair into a stereotypical Al Queda.
I know......not funny......but we don't need to worry at all about an attack on anti-commercialism kids. We are the closest thing to a rebellion that America has to worry about right now.

you guys have to stop toking as much... ;D or whatever that makes you this paranoid....bonnaroo is NOT a high profile event...i know it might b for us cause we love it and cherish our times spent on that beautiful tenn farm but 90% of the people out of this scene has no idea that bonnaroo even exists....but again we live in a crappy time in this world where ANYTHING can happen, so i say just relax and have a grand ol' time there and screw the freaking terrorists... Hippies' love will conquer all at the ROO peace in the middle east

I looked at the 7 suspects and they look like us. I just got off the phone with the FBI in Atlanta and they told me that I shouldn't worry and that its a small town and easy to defend. They also told me that "rest assured, there will be people there watching".
I don't know what to think about that but I felt a little better about going after the talk.

I think I may be able to come up with a pair of M40gas mask and a pair of new (in the package) NBC (Nuke-Bio- Chemical) suits from a friend in the national guard.
Ill be the guy walking around looking like the space man.. hehehehe.
Drive by Homeland Security HQ 2x a day on the daily commute, & thought of the same thing Trips did...Bonnaroo an unlikely target, but we all need to keep our guard up anyway
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that noone should lose any sleep over an al Qaeda/Bonnaroo connection.
-Most people in the U.S. don't know what Bonnaroo is, I doubt that terrorists are aware it exists -no attacks since 9/11 (2 1/2 + years). -not really anything you or I could do about it if there was an attack -it is in the administrations's interest for the public to be afraid.
You are at far greater risk for this sort of thing in an urban area than at Bonnaroo, but I'm not losing any sleep over that either.

I think what he's gettin at is if the public feels threatened they are more willing to depend on their government to protect them also more willing to let government trample the constitutuion in the name of "protecting" us. At leat that what I think he was getting at.
I'm sure that is what he was saying and I feel that we the people are letting the gov. take away our constitutional rights to privacy in hopes that the gov. will in turn use the information it can obtain to make us safer. In reality, this is only screwing us out of our constitutional rights and doesn't make us one bit safer. The government needs to change its foreign policies in order to gain the respect of the rest of the world. This will make us safer. My 2 cents that in todays exchange rate is only 1 cent.

the fact that the f.b.i. will have people there watching and yet we're still enjoying the "trip" tells me it's kind of like they're allowing us to enjoy the "trips" so the rebellious population can blow some steam off... just another conspiracy theory.
Just the fact that they are in the position to "allow" us to have agood time pisses me off, just knowing that any one of those dickheads could bust as many people as possible with small time drug charges at any time........all it would take is some FBI guy having a bad day........UUUUGGGHH!
A friend of mine (who is going to Bonnaroo with me) went to the Dead/Bob Dylan show in Chicago a while ago. He started talking to some of the security there. The security officer told him that a show like this is full of a bunch of Deadheads and peace-loving hippies. The law enforcement has no problem with the use of drugs at places like these, what they're concerned about is violence. So when people search you, most likely they're only looking for weapons. Just a thought.
Through my inside contacts in Washington I have obtained a report entitled "Top Five Ways to Destroy the American Infrastructure". The list is as follows:
5)Put Out False Messages of Phish Breaking Up 4)Take out the Wal-Mart of Manchester, Tennessee 3)Sabotage Capttrips Bus 2)Bomb Warren Haynes's House 1)Crop Dust the Infidels with Ruffies at a Music Concert
Looks like you were right Timochee!!
But fear not friends, we have a fully competent man as Presi......oh no!! We might be in trouble.
The quote is from Thomas Jefferson (See Sig). I'd be willing to wager that Bonnaroo has had Feds since it began. No more than 4 though. Just to see what kind of counter-culture is around. Yes they could bust most of us with small drug charges, but what would be the point. I'll bet there are no large-scale suppliers there. Some dealing yes, but no OH MY GOD THAT'S A LOT OF POT type people that they like to go for. So meh, I wouldn’t worry about that so much. I'd more worry about the police going into and leave Roo; they have more at stake in the small stuff. As for al-Qaeda, it would be a fairly good target. Peace loving hippies and such. Several problems arise in doing this. The ways to transport a weapon to wipe a good portion of us out. Fairly difficult to do. Location wise it's kind of rough to transport a large enough bomb, I'm not saying it couldn't be done but the risk out ways the benefit. A truck hauling a dirty-nuke would be easy, except for the fact of traffic, too many cops watching the roads that weekend. With a lot of truckers knowing not to pass though the area a lone truck waiting in line near the Roo would be pretty odd. I know the signs of what to look for on a semi that would lead me to believe it had a bomb in place. (Thanks army MP corp.) Cars loaded down wouldn't get the radius to kill enough people. Airplanes have been done so the risk for that is again too high. Crop dusting chemicals would be on the list of things to look for. I'll bet that would get taken care of before it got near the Roo. I really doubt they'd attempt to Die Hard the Roo. Too many people to manage. From what I've been reading I'll bet they'll go for the political parties fun-filled gatherings this summer. The risk will be huge for them but the pay-off is too great. Taking out political leaders vs. some dirty hippies, I'm not worried about us. Several other places would come to mind before hand, well known places like Sears Tower, The Golden Gate, and any place in Washington DC would get hit before Roo. Large cities would go first, easier to get too and large-scale carnage. Right after 9/11 I was more worried about the day after Christmas and the malls. What would bring down this country first, money. If people are afraid to shop the economy falters, if our leaders aren't safe people feel the country isn't safe. Transportation is another thing that would slow a country down. These are the things that al-Qaeda would want to hit. If the Roo would be hit, the general public would say, "Oh how sad, What's a Bonnaroo," and "dirty hippies" It's sad to say but I feel it's true. We as a country don't like things that are different and outside the box. They scare us. That's why music sounds the same, with a few exceptions. That's why all our cars and SUVs look a lot alike. Different is bad, same is good.
As for the keeping them scared thing. It's kinda true. Remember the post-9/11 days, we were almost always at threat level orange. The more scared people are the more likely they are to follow orders. As well as follow a leader that before 9/11 was tanking in the polls.
Sorry about the length I tend to go on about things political, I've done enough research I get kind of speachy. The bomb and terrorist stuff comes from a woman I was going to marry, she was an officer in the MP corp. and I used to read all her stuff. Things to look for how much damage different things could do. I'd set up scenarios to test things about it; an example is if I wanted to take out an army base and did this how could you deal with it. Stuff like that; sometimes she had to ask her boss about things. Yeah I'm sure I'm on a list somewhere, I've written too many letters to my senator and reps and the president. Yeah I read too much.
I really don't think that the risk is any higher now than what it was, say, last week. I think it's just a way for the administration to cover thier @sses. That way if there is an attack between now and the election, they can say, "we told you so", and it maybe it wont cost W his job. They keep saying this every 6 months or so. "This is the most credible intelegence we've seen yet" If something doesn't happen then they did a bang-up job keeping us safe. Seriously though, I don't think any terrorists have even heard of B-roo, except maybe that American from Orange County that likes heavy metal, he might have some hatred for us and our music
The last thing I want to think about while going to my first Bonnaroo is the f*cked up government...
Don't think about it... whatever's meant to happen will happen...and if that bomb is supposed to land on me that day..well than at least I'll die listening to some good music.
I'm sure there's been a scattering of feds from the beginning too...I was just attempting to point out in a humorous way that I feel far more threatened by our own govt. than by a terrorist attack at Bonnaroo. I agree that nationally speaking most people have never even heard of Bonnaroo. This is my third year, I frequently wear my shirts to work, I'm always playing music from Bonnaroo at work, I frequently get people out to see bands that have played at Bonnaroo, when they come to town, and there's even a radio station here that gives away tix...Yet every year, when people ask me where I'm going on vacation and I say Bonnaroo, they look at me with puzzlement and say "where?". At least 80 percent of the population doesn't have a clue.
