Ok, so I took this from the coachella board, but I think it's a great idea so I decided to bring it here.
Every week we could elect a board member, probably starting out with some more prominent ones, and they answer the questions we ask. These could be about music, life, or anything you could think of. This will go a long way to creating a community here, rather than just a place where we yell at each other for not appreciating our sophisticated music tastes. Alright well I would still want to do that, but at least we'll be able to come here and be nice.
Good idea?

I'm confused, are you implying that Inforoo could learn something from the Coachella board about respect and a sense of community? Because that is downright laughable.

I do like the idea, however.
Haha, they definitely have worse trolls than us, but they do tend to have good ideas.

I think "of the week" is a bit too frequent. I'm just gonna be blunt about it, but I think if we did it on a per week basis I'd run out of members who's opinions I respect here within 3 months!! Although it sure would be fun to ask silly questions to various members on here and see what their answers would be, regardless of what I think of their opinions on life or whatnot! ;D ;D
Perhaps a Member of the Month? I'd love to see some of the more "prominent" members here give their earnest opinions on matters for a month! ;D

^^True, but I thought the intent was to set up more of a Q & A type format, and I would hope that people would think of funnier/more thought provoking questions to ask that the member wouldn't typically be discussing on the board otherwise.
Either way, this could be a fun and interesting aspect of the board, and something new for a change... so if you actually want to head this up, you should devise a plan of how to go about doing it... Does the board vote every weekend as to who that week's designated member will be? Or would it be a sign up/volunteer basis?
If you get it started, I'm sure atleast a small portion of the board would follow along and it would last a little while

Yea I could head it up. And I think you're right, judging from the traffic on this page, member of the week may be too frequent, of the month would work fine. The way I was thinking, is we get a list of people who would actually want to do this, then the first member, like lets say it's Strum, answers questions for the month, and then he picks the next board member of the month.
This will be good way to keep things interesting over the off months, and a way to get to know members more with specific questions like "what was the first concert you went to," "what was the cd that most affected the way you listened to music in the future" or even stuff like "who is your animal spirit guide and why." It's all up in the air.
Would it just be a questionaire that person fills out with questions submitted by everyone or more like a Q&A thread with the subject line saying, for example, "Board Member of the Month of June:Strum" and it will just be a free for all with people posting questions and Strum (or BMOTM) checking the thread all month and answering them individually?
Did everyone get that? Re-reading that sentance confused the hell outta me but I know what I am talking about. Did that make a t least a little sense?
Yeah, I think the second one is better because it could easily stay active for a month with new content for people to read. This sounds like a lot of fun. It's a great outlet for the excessive narcissists of inforoo, that's for sure.... the opportunity to talk about one's self for a month straight will be very enticing to some people.

I totally agree that the free for all Q&A would be best and most interesting. If I just wanted to fill out a questionnaire or survey I'd just get on myspace!
Soo uhh... am I board member of the month? Where's my plaque?! ;D

Yep Strum, you are officially the board member of the month. However no plaque due to budget cuts.
On to the first question, What are your five desert island records? The ones you could listen to over and over again without going completely insane.

Damn this economy!!
5 Desert Island Records... do multi-disc records count at 1 record? I can change if not. In fact, my pick for my 5 records probably could change again within a month's time, so I may redo this again... but right now if I had to just quickly grab 5 records from my music library and go:
1) Pink Floyd - Animals 2) Live Phish 16 - 10.31.94 3) Dick's Picks Vol 11 - 9.27.72 4) My Morning Jacket - Z 5) Radiohead - The Bends

...ok so not as unpredictable as I might have initially thought. I guess when it comes to my sanity I gotta stick to my roots
This word also has a underground meaning once you break it down. Let’s take “Bonn” for example and it actually turns into the word “Bone”. We all know gays use this word to describe the action of when they are fecal fisting their Cuban cabana boy at their sex bath house parties. Now let’s look at Roo, “Roo” is short for “Kangaroo”.So put the full true message together and you get“Bone a Kangaroo
What music influenced you the most as a teenager starting at the age of 14?
Oh gahd... not those days!
14-15: I had a pretty weird taste in music growing up. I suppose Incubus was my #1 favorite band at that time, I think they had just released Morning View. I had a pretty heavy taste in music in my late middle school years, so I would often be seen blasting Metallica, System of a Down (I think Toxicity was released around 2001ish?), and Black Sabbath... all that music which made my parents scream and, being the conservative sheltering parents they were, often started screening the CDs I bought and tried to force my musical tastes in a different direction.
16-17: Much to the relief of my parents I started listening to "their" music. I fell in love with The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Simon & G-Funk and the like. I guess I got my first guitar around 17ish, and so I really started listening to the classic acoustic folk style tunes from the 60s-70s. I also was really impressed by the current acoustic artists, such as John Mayer and Dave Matthews and tried to mimic them on guitar a lot.
18-19 I finally got a computer of my own at 18, so I was free to download all the music I wanted finally and not have to spend $10 or whatever it was at the album store. At this point I went through a phase of "quantity over quality" as far as my music collection went. It ended up working great though, because along the way I picked up some gems that I never would have otherwise. Modest Mouse, Pearl Jam, Carbon Leaf, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers.... I think those were among the top of my normal rotation, although I also started getting interested in hip hop for a while. I snagged plenty of Eminem, Dr. Dre, Cyprus Hill, Big L, and even a little bit of Will Smith... regrettably I took a long break from playing guitar during these years because I was more fascinated by listening to music than I was in creating music, which I fully regret now looking back... but oh well.
I really didn't form my current musical tastes that I have today until college. I always knew about bands such as the Grateful Dead, Phish, Pink Floyd and the like but didn't really give them a whole lot of listening. In fact, I even remember one time in high school someone was trying to get me to listen to the Dead and I shrugged them off as "hippie bluegrass" for the time being because I wanted to hear something with a shredding guitar instead. I was a silly teenager
1. If you had to make a list of some of the moments that shaped you the most in terms of musical tastes, what would make the list? Whether it was a certain concert, your first festival, the first time you listened to a certain record, or even meeting one of your favorite artists... do tell!
2. Do you make any music yourself?
3. Complete this sentence: if I could hear any one cover at Roo this year, it would be ___________ doing their own take on ___________, which was originally recorded by ______________
4. Complete this sentence: if I could see any one sit-in at Roo this year, no matter how unlikely it might be, I would love to see ____________ do a song or two with ______________
5. We all know that Phish is your #1 most anticipated act for this year's Roo... so besides them, who are your top five must-sees?

1. First concert I attended was the Doobie Brothers, and that really made me realize the true value of experiencing live music. Up until that point, I didn't like the Doobie Bros at all, I never listened to their music, and I didn't even like any other bands in their genre really. But I went with my parents and met up with a few friends and had an absolute blast. After that, I was definitely more open to new music genres and bands that I hadn't heard of before and got out of the mindset of "If I haven't heard it, then it's crap." I guess I can't really think of any big specific events that shaped my musical tastes so much... The first time I ever sat down and just listened to Animals, not just throwing it on as background music, was no doubt one of those experiences I'll never forget but I don't consider that to be shaping my music tastes, but rather just helping me acknowledge and appreciate the genius behind music.
And while I did listen to Phish in recent years and months and enjoyed their music for the most part, I'm one of the thousands or millions of people that when I saw them for the first time in Hampton it absolutely rattled my soul and I really can't ever remembering being so happy at a concert in my life. Prior to 3-8-09 I may have listened to Phish two or three times a month really. Now they often make my daily rotations. Even when I hit those weird musical mood days there are a few minutes where I'll throw on that 2001>Moma Dance from Hampton and just relive the good times. I guess you could consider that concert to have shaped my musical tastes today, even tho it was so recent.
I hoped that answered the question to your expectations...
2. I do play the guitar, I used to play the piano but haven't sat down and seriously played the keys in a few years. I don't record anything I play, and only have a few "songs" if you would even call them that. I've never been much of a vocalist and have absolute zero confidence in anything coming out of my mouth sounding good, so most of what I do is just silly jams and chord progressions on my guitar.
3. If I could hear any one cover at Roo this year, it would be Phish doing their own take on While My Guitar Gently Weeps which was originally recorded by The Beatles.
I absolutely love that song... and Trey does one hell of a job on it. Although, in my opinion the best covers at a show are ones which you don't expect or see coming, so any cover that I've never heard before would be fantastic!
4. If I could see any one sit-in at Roo this year, no matter how unlikely it might be, I would love to see Warren Haynes do a song or two with Trey and Mike Gordon, in an acoustic trio to open up the 2nd set of Sundays closing show
5. We all know that Phish is your #1 most anticipated act for this year's Roo... so besides them, who are your top five must-sees?
You mean there's people there besides Phish?
jokes aside, I think I'm most excited for, in respective order: 1) David Byrne 2) The Mars Volta 3) Delta Spirit 4) Animal Collective.. although the daytime slot got me slightly less excited 5) Nine Inch Nails... or MGMT... Whichever of the two I end up at
