Of the remaining designers, who do you want to win? I still think it is too early to really have a favorite but I like Maya.
Of the remaining designers, who do you think will win? Right now it is looking good for Jay...
Of the remaining designers, who should win? wayyyy too early to make the call on this! I do like Maya but I need to see more fashion from everybody! I havem't really been impressed with any of the designers but I absolutely adore the first dress that Emilio made but that was a mess he sent down the runway last night!
Could you sum up your religious views in five sentences or less?
Washington, Lincoln & FDR are widely regarded as the three best Presidents we've had... who are your picks for the next three best?
If you could select eleven historical figures to play a game of Mafia (entering into the random draw of course, not assigning roles) who would they be?
Would you rather have your face and body but the brain of a chimpanzee or be a chimpanzee but have your human brain? chimpanzee w/ human brain so I could be chimpanzee king.
Are you sure it wouldn't be more like this?

What is your stance on governemnt and community aid to the homeless? I think that we should let non violent drug offenders out of our prisons and use that funding for combatting homeless issues. So many people think homeless people should "just get a job" but they don't realize that the majority of homeless people are mentally unstable. We have to help these people, they are our brothers, , mothers, friends, and lovers but not if they are homeless... suddenly they are nobody. Very sad.
What is on your bedside nightstand right now? alarm clock (that did NOT go off today), ponytail holder, bobby pin, some dust, and the remote for my ceiling fan.
Do you have any pets? If so what kind? I have a pet snail named Shelton John. I also had a snail named Snailson Mandella but sadly, he expired. I also treat my plants like animals. I have two cacti, a mystery oxygeniating green plant, an African violet, and a Venus fly trap. Shelton on the left, Snailson on the right.
(The one on the left died)
What was the last book you read? A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines... a nice, simple instant gratification read.
What book would you really like to read but don't own a copy of? Milton's Paradise Lost or something by Einstein.
Speak any other languages? Mi espanol es no bueno.
What is the farthest you've traveled from home? London, England
Could you sum up your religious views in five sentences or less? I do not believe in a god but I do not deny the possibility of one. If we call anything god, it should probably be that big magic burning ball of gas in the sky. Jesus is just alright with me. "God is a concept by which we measure our pain." -John Lennon, God "I do not believe any type of religion should ever be introduced into the public schools of the United States." - Thomas Edison
Washington, Lincoln & FDR are widely regarded as the three best Presidents we've had... who are your picks for the next three best? Clinton, Polk, and McKinley, maybe? Honorable mention: Herbert Hoover
If you could select eleven historical figures to play a game of Mafia (entering into the random draw of course, not assigning roles) who would they be? I'm gonna concentrate on the history of war here because, well hell why not? FDR Albert Cashier/Jennie Hodgers Hitler Che Guervara George W. Bush (solely so he can be voted off in day one) Achillies Alvin York Napoleon Nathanael Greene Stonewall Jackson Hirohito
What was the last album somebody bought for you? Thome Yorke's Eraser... wow that was a while ago but my friends know that I am anti buying music (I'll save you that rant).
Could I please hear your "anti buying music" rationale? Give us that rant.

not too hard... I have this one saved on my HD were I gave it to an old man in one of my classes a few years back. WARNING! Some material may be slightly dated.
Yes, I suppose that downloading music is illegal but I do not imagine it to remain that way much longer if for now other reason than simply because (and this is a big one), nobody can stop it. To terminate the "free" downloads, one would have to end the internet altogether. Thank goodness that's not gonna happen! You could accept this simple statement or you could continue to read for a few more interesting facts...
Radiohead: In Rainbows On October 10, 2007 Radiohead released their seventh studio album, In Rainbows, as a digital download available solely through their website. The best part is you could set your own price starting at $0.00... wow. Although this idea seemed very obscure at first, if you add up the numbers it makes perfect sense.
Let's Do Some Math CD's go for about $15 each, right? Did you know that of that $15 the artist usually ends up with about $1 per copy? In Rainbows sold over 3 million copies world wide, so by using EMI (their old record company) they would have made about $3,000,000. Now, a lot of people download the album for free and a lot of people paid X amount of dollars for their copy. Hypothetically speaking, we'll say that 40% (1.2 m) paid an average of $5 per copy.
1,200,000 x $5.00 = $6,000,000
and if 30% (900,000) of the people paid $5...
900,000 x $5.00 = $4,500,000
That is a considerable bit more money than earned by using old recording label. Basically the band cut out the middle man, genius really. Since there is no middle man, Radiohead falls in the 90% profit margin and when considering their sales for In Rainbows, the only expenses were for the studio time and oh yeah, they paid one of us to set up their site for them. The whole album probably cost about $75,000 to produce, not too shabby.
Marketing Of course it only gets better... since artists obviously don't make their money from album sales, most of a band's funding comes from ticket sales. Because Radiohead was able to make their album more affordable and guilt free (from the technicalities of illegal downloading), the group was able to capture a broader audience, thus driving ticket sales up. Not to mention all the free publicity they recieved, they were even featured in TIME magazine, spanning yet again, a larger audience.
The bottom line is CDs and recording labels are rip offs and consumers as well at artists are slowly figuring that out. CDs are soon to be a thing of the past (they are to me, already) and record companies will go down with them. Plus, with CDs comes eventual garbage with packaging and the CD itself. Do you realize the first CD ever made remains unharmed in a landfill somewhere?
No Leaks Because nobody but Radiohead had access to the In Rainbows files, they did not have to worry about a copy of it leaking and saturating peer to peer networks. Had they stayed with EMI, one of the many hands the album passed through would have eventually released it online and therefore damaging album sales (at the EMI low profit rate, no less).
Peer to Peer Networks An invention almost as wonderful as the internet itself... some are almost as dangerous, too! Many people use networks like Limewire for all of their illegal needs and Limewire is indeed a very fast way to pick up your favorite Bob Dylan tracks (or so I hear) but unfortunately those files often come with extra-free malware!! There are a lot of technically legal and more secure ways of tune shopping but if I told you the CIA would probably jump out and kill me so I propose you do a search for .torrent, and I bet the guys over at wikipedia are more than willing to help you out.
By the way, did you know that downloading the files is not the illegal part, it's actually uploading them. However, the more you upload the faster you download, or so I hear.
Yo Ho, Yo Ho! A pirate's life for me! In the end, the music industry is currently undergoing a revolution and unfortunately the legal system has not caught up. I do not engage in illegal acts and I don not advise you to do so either. Inevitably, it is only amount to time until music is legally available for complimentary download on the internet. Until that time, there will be two types of people out there: those who fight the war and then there are the pirates whom wage it.

When was the last time you stole something that wasn't music?
god... back when I was a teenager.
well one time when I was working at silver spoon, I stole a 5lb bag of spinach con queso on my way out the door. I went home and split it up and packed it in our cooler for bonnaroo. It was our main staple of the weekend, I called that a success.
Last week I was hanging out with this chick who used to be my manager at SS... I confessed to her and we laughed and laughed and laughed.

The "drugWar" hasn't stopped drugUsage, but I'm still waiting for legalization. A couple of other things that can't be stopped, murder and theft remain illegal a well.

Do you remember Sassy Magazine and thier feature "Cute Band Alert"? vaguely... I remember seeing Ween featured there one time wayyyy back before I knew who they were.
Whats your Cute Band Alert, for us? oh god, idk I'll go with Christabel and the Jons again. Christa is just so cute and so is the cello player.

the druq war is a joke. and since free (or pay what you want) music actually benefits the artist, I would hardly put it in the same class as murder or theft for that matter.

You're right of course. My point was just that the fact that something can't be stopped doesn't seem to factor in to whether it's outlawed or not.

oh I feel ya! I guess I was just thinking more along the lines of the civil rights movement, the 19th amendment, and the end of prohibition. There is no guarantee that it will ever be legal to dl music but unless we rebel and stand up for ourselves, then it WILL always be illegal. Power to the people.
Any belief in the paranormal/supernatural? This is a tricky subject. I def believe that there are things around us that we cannot explain but I don't necessarily believe it to be a "ghost" or "spirit" as defined by today's standards. I have been studying a lot about quantum and meta physics lately and for sometime now I have been interested in researching the possibility of parallel universes and string theory (which is the concept that everything in the universe is composed of tiny vibrating strings).
I know that sounds kinda crazy but I think of it as slices of bread that compile a loaf. Now if these slices are side by side and vibrating then can sometimes they collide (big bang) and that collision and the aftermath is felt and seen for X number of "years". Also, it would make sense that these slices sometimes intertwine and interact with each other, perhaps unknowingly to us... and perhaps knowingly to something else (I believe all time can be encompassed in this and may offer an explanation of entities from times past). btw, did you know that scientists believe we live in a world with 11 different dimensions?!
I wish more was known about these topics but since none of this has been actually proven so it's not quite physics, but more so philosophy. However, scientist believe that if this was is and has happened, we will find traces of these events throughout our universe, like a footprint... or a fossil. I can honestly say that this is one area where I do not have a very defined opinion... in other words my mind is not made up. However, I CAN say that I do NOT believe in "demons".

Would you agree with the statement that I've been being much nicer, pleasant and more constructive over the past few weeks?
ABSOLUTELY. Although, I'm not sure that my opinion counts for much but seeing as we have had our differences I would say it does count for something if only in our personal relationship with each other. Actually, I've been wondering where you were at the past few days!
Did you get any kind of error message, warning, or email when you tried to log in? Also, you can always talk to any mod, I know that under the possible circumstances that may be the last thing you want to do but just remember they are our friends and they are just like us. I'm sure they can help give you answers to any problem or question about the board.
Have you read Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, perchance? I'm assuming not, since you asked me a follow-up about the book last month. You assume correctly, which based on your relatively recent mafia assumptions, I would consider that assumption a major improvement. ;D (oh how I missed your absence last week ) However, when I was working at the bookstore that was one of the books for one of the philosophy classes (I think) and on my list to read but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

No. No error message. When I tried to log-in, I immediately recieved "We're sorry, but you have been banned from this board". I actually did ask the mod who I believe was responsible what happened and why it was bad enough to get me banned (without notice or explanation). I also asked why, if it was so bad, I was quickly reinstated. His only response was "Thanks for understanding." Strange, huh?
Anyway, this thread isn't about me or my problems. I just wanted to get the opinion of someone that I've had issues with in the past, but have started to feel a connection with lately. Thanks for your kind words.
I'll be back with some better questions a little later.
They did release a new album, but that's not why I asked... that was actually the meta/quantum physics talk.
Frontman E's father was a legendary physicist, dealing with things along the lines of parallel universes, quantum mechanics, Schrodinger's cat, what have you... but E never really knew the man. The BBC did a special with him called "Parallel Lives, Parallel Universes" in which E followed his father's footsteps through Harvard, London & the like, hearing from people who met him and having his father's theory explained along the way.
I thought it might be up your alley, so I asked if you knew the Eels... I thought that viewing might be up your alley, but it might help a bit if you liked or at least knew the son's band. Anyway, there's another recommendation... for better or for worse.
