I took the bus in last year, definitely an experience. My ride was about 16 hours, and half the size of the one you're about to face.
Get the tickets to Manchester. They will have a special bus driving to 'Roo, mine was from Chattanooga, so it was about an hour away for some reason (I remember everyone else on the bus was sleeping but I was too excited so I stayed up, however all of a sudden we were in Georgia, and I was really confused. Did she have to drive into Georgia to get on the highway towards Bonnaroo? Anyone from the area know why this happened.)
Once you get to Manchester, they will drop you off at a gas station, some enterprising townies will be waiting to drive you to the "entrance." Do not pay them the 10 bucks, as the entrance they are referring to is not really the entrance, but just the beginning of Bushy Branch Rd. You can walk to this from the gas station fairly easily, as the walk to Bonnaroo on Bushy Branch is about a mile or two.
Someone will check your backpack, so plan accordingly. Then once inside the grounds you will have another longish walk to tent only. I'd advise going fairly early in the morning as this fills up quickly.

I-24 actually leaves TN and goes back into GA before going back into TN
Man, I just looked into it for myself. It would take me a day and a half to get to Manchester from NYC. It would only cost $115 one way, which is a great deal. I don't know if I should go for it, I like riding down with people in 15 hours instead of 35. How long would it take you to ride?
I suggest if there is any other way to get there other then Greyhound, espeacilly one that is going to take a long long time. The bus always rides behind schedule and there is always a chance you could miss your connecting bus and have to wait hours for another one. Also a long busride can take a lot out of you (I tried to sleep, wasnt happening some people it might be easier for.) so you will already have a jetlagged feeling coming into Roo.
If its all you can afford then go for it, it is not pleasant but it does get you there.
yeah right now it seems like the most affordable choice
the only thing that worries me is the connections issues. i wouldnt want that to happen
You really should allot some time for possible missed connections. Long story short, around Christmas 2007, I was headed on a bus trip out to Denver - I missed a connection in Pittsburgh, and a two day trip quickly turned into a five day one. Now, that was an extreme scenario, and snow was also part of the reason why we took so long to get there, but still - if you're coming from that far, I might advise planning to arrive on Wednesday night just to give you some leeway. That way, the worst case scenario you get there a day early, and have to either hang out in the Walmart parking lot, or set up in BFE - which is a lot better than missing some music.
Those of you you do decide to take the bus, check out the Helping Hands thread. You can request that a fellow InfoRooster bring in inexpensive, bulky items for you such as water, etc. You'll definitely need to stay hydrated in the Roo heat.
