I've got this one! Just bought a truckload of D batteries at Sam's Club for this and the fans for my tent today. Gonna test everything tomorrow after work!
Big Lots often has cheap solar powered lights of various kinds (for garden/walkway) -- we have used these as guy line markers and they are cheap enough if one eats it or gets stepped on we don't fear.
But I've heard voices not in the head Out in the air they called ahead Through ripped out speakers Through thick and thin They found a shelter Under my skin -Evgeny Aleksandrovitch Nikolaev
I got a string of solar lights at Target. They seem like they will be handy around the ez up. The solar panel has a clip so I should be able to clip it to the tarp.
My take on lights for the campsite. I have purchased two 35' strands of solar powered (with option of battery power) multicolored lights. The lights seem a bit small but actually are pretty bright in the dark. Here's the link for those who are interested.
I have been to roo for many years and have never put up lights around my EZ Up before. My questions to those experienced with this is, will putting up these lights make my campsite a target for theives? I don't want to encourage and/or help dbags steal my stuff but I did want to put up some low key lighting for just chilling out to. Thanks for your advice here!

Couple of ideas. I know you asked about battery powered lights, but Cyalumes are hard to beat, good source, $26 for 30 of the original Omniglows (aka Cyalume) (yes, it's ebay but I've bought from them before) is here bit.ly/J3JMLn. If you want to go battery powered these; bit.ly/yhfaKYbit.ly/Jdqiso are cheap but fun, I've purchased from this place too, no problems.
Anyone have any suggestions for a good battery powered light source for the campsite? I have a 10X10 Easy Up and could use some suggestions.
There are all kinds of solar powered lights that are perfect for Roo... considering all the sun. Inexpensive too. i got 33 ft. of LED solar powered rope light for 30 bucks
We've bought a couple of strings of battery powered lights over the years for our EZ up. They're more for decoration and to help us find our way home at night. They use 4 AA batteries but we never need to change the batteries over the weekend, even when we forget to turn them off during the day. We have a battery powered Coleman lantern for actual light.
Our paper lantern worked well for Roo and our permanent camp for last summer... This year I bought solar powered string lights for the ez-up and will prolly get more paper lanterns for ambiance. I like ether light to lead my way home at late night.

i just got 16 feet of LED rope light at home depot.. it runs off a AA battery which is rechargable by included solar panel. 29 bucks.
i dont know how long its going to stay lit with the 1 or 2 batteries it has though... but since ill only have it on while im actually at the camp, im sure itll be perfect. i could always get some wire and rig sometime to have it run off a couple aa batteries instead of just one.

I'm quoting myself here because I'm really curious about it. Anyone that has put up these lights around your campsite, have you had an issue with theft? It was suggested that having the lights up could make you a target. Thanks for any response.

I don't know that lights will add to it, but I've never had anything stolen. Cooler stays in the car along with anything else of reasonable value.

Have you tried these out yet? I've thought about getting some waterproof LED string lights and hooking them up to a 12V lantern battery. You'd need a resistor in the mix too. I may have to rig something up this weekend...
But your comment about the AA battery caught my eye. Can you really just connect a standard battery instead of the solar source?? The biggest issue I've seen with these solar powered LED's is that they only stay on for 2 or 3 hours once it gets dark. That's great for your front porch or something, but obviously at 'Roo we need light at 3 AM for that late night beer run!!! If you can hook up a standard battery as a backup then I'm sold.
I know we're getting close to Roo but Lowe's has a Buy 2 Get 1 FREE on Solar Landscape Lights right now. You can pick from 6 different styles ranging in price from $3 each up to $17 each. I'll be grabbing three of the cheaper ones and see how they work.
I've been using these for several years. They take 3 AAA's each and will clip under the ezup anywhere you want them. They are pretty bright and nice for spreading the light around and not blinding anyone. Fresh batteries (good ones) will last all festival. One very important tip... don't store them with the batteries in them... they can accidently get turned on very easily which will kill the batteries.

Sure, the two I recommend are the Coleman Tent Light (about $15) and the Camping christmas lights. Both do a great job for a reasonable price. I like the christmas lights because they add some flare to our shade structure at night. They make a cool atmosphere to come back to and chill after a long day of music!
Has anyone used those little LED tea lights at their campsite? I found this little clear buckets at the craft store that were really cheap, and I was thinking of buying a bunch of them, stringing them together, and sticking the LED tea lights in them I've never used them so I don't know if they'd even give off enough light. I just figured it would be a cheaper alternative to buying 2 or three sets of solar string lights, but maybe it's not worth it?
If you want some ambiance, I have used these LED lights from Amazon for the past couple of years. They're surprisingly bright, and they don't use a lot of battery juice: amzn.to/10FcM8F They're $6 each I think...
