ok, so bonnaroo is getting pretty close now and i am putting together a definitive list of things i need to bring with me. i have never even been inside an rv before so i know very little about how everything works (water/electricity). here are the specs of the one i will be renting:
* Ford V-8 Chassis Engine * Automatic Transmission * 2-Wheel Drive * Power Brakes * Power Steering * In Dash Air Conditioning * Cruise Control * Dual Rear Tires * Stereo Sound System * Electric Generator (US Only) * 55-Gallon Fuel Tank * 9.5-Gallon LP Gas Tank
* 37-Gallon Fresh Water Tank * 6-Gallon Water Heater Tank * 22-Gallon Sewage Water Tank * 16-Gallon Grey Water Tank * LP Gas/Electric Refrigerator * 3 LP Gas Cooktop Burners * 110-Volt Microwave Oven * LP Gas/12-Volt Furnace * Shower * Fresh Water Toilet * 110-Volt Roof Air Conditioner
so i am basically very confused about all the different gas and water tanks.
my goal would basically to be able to use ac as much as we can and also to cook and shower freely. but since there are no water/electricity hookups does this mean i won't really be able to do that? i read taht the generator will use up 1 gal of gas per hour, how will this affect me? i'm sure your answers will give me more questions so i'll just start with those for now, any help is greatly appreciated.
yes, i have thoroughly read that thread, i'm still just confused, since it seems i have two different fuel tanks. also i am unaware if it is safe to transport extra gas around? and if i do, all i have is a 5 gallon plastic tank, should i be bringing more? basically i just have a lot of specific questions for my case and was looking for some additional help
^^^ I can't answer them - this is the first year we have had an RV - I do know CruiseAmerica (where we have ours from) makes you do orientation before they let you leave - so I'll just find out all I need to know then.
In the meantime - you could pm bug512 - he'll be able to answer your rv questions.
Gasoline, make sure to fill up the fuel tank before entering, somewhere within 30 miles or so will be fine. A generator can use up to as much as one gallon per hour, especially with the air conditioning running. Watch your usage over the weekend. Start the RV up on Saturday morning and look at the gas gauge. Most (if not all) RV's will not let the generator run when the fuel level gets around 1/4 to 1/8 tank. Personally I don't think you will need air conditioning at night, cool down the RV before bed and then open the windows. So, I would not recommend you bring gas cans.
LP, again make sure that this is filled before you leave the rental company. This is for cooking, water heater and the refrigerator when the generator is off.
Water (fresh), how many people are staying in the RV? Here are my past experiences with traveling with four people at Bonnaroo. We took one shower a day, a quick Navy shower (quick rinse, stop the water, soap up, start water and quick rinse), you can't stand there with the water on. That water will come out of your fresh water tank. Look like yours holds 37 gallons. So another words, four showers. You can get filled up with fresh water (in 07 it was $50 per fill) or bring along a water container and a cart of some kind. Walmart sells 7 gallon water containers in the camping section. You will need a way then to fill the water tank, a short piece of garden hose will work to siphon it.
Gray water (shower), here is the problem. Your tank only holds 16 gallons. (That does not sound right BTW), you will need to be "pumped out" or you can drain off some of the gray (shower water) slowly from the drain valve. Note: some states do not allow this. If you can drain it off you will not need to be pumped out.
Black water (toilet), You should be fine with this. I can go four days with four people. Use a porto when possible. The level indicators are very inaccurate in RV's. Step on the toilet lever and look down there. Again you should be fine.
ok, so i don't really have a need to find a hookup before going in right? it wouldn't make a difference?
I don't know what you mean by this. What kind of hookup?
When you enter the grounds make sure the fuel tank is as full as possible, the LP thank full before you leave the RV rental place and try to top off the fresh water tank. Some gas stations have fresh water available. Make sure to tell everyone staying in the camper to conserve water.
Emptying the black water tank is not a problem. At a dumpstation you have a hose that hooks up to the camper to the drain, after that you open the black water tank drain first, let everything drain out (about 3-5 min), then close the black water tank drain and open up the gray water tank drain. If you do it in this order the gray water will rinse the hose out. If you get pumped out at the festival you don't do a thing. Just hand over the cash. Make sure to have exact change !!

I meant like water/electricity hookups. i don't need to recharge the generator or anything, right? also my other question is this: here is the rv i am renting: www.cruiseamerica.com/rent/our_vehicles/standard_rv.aspx we would very much liek to have some kind of tv, i was thinking a laptop/portable dvd player would make the most sense, however some ppl i am goign with are almost demanding that we have an xbox hookked up to some kind of larger tv. is there anyplace that i'd be able to stick a tv where it wouldn't be fallign off a ttable or something? how big of one could i possibly put in there?
