I've heard people suggest that no Widespread is the big difference. Don't know how much this has to do with it, but I had absolutely no idea how big Widespread's following was until Bonnaroo. I think the proliferation of like-minded festivals also seems like a likely explanation.
As far as this weekend is concerned, I think a smaller turnout would be nice. I thought the extra 10,000 people last year made things a little crowded (relative to '02) and wasn't really looking forward to adding another 10-20K to that. I do hope that the festival remains viable and successful for future years.

I'm sure they'll still do OK financially this year --- chew on this statistic..
80,000 tickets - assumption of GA tickets sold as of date x 150 - avg price of ticket this year = 12,000,000 - yes, that's 12 million dollars from ticket sales alone.
I don't think anyone will be suffering over at Superfly, what a wonderful idea Bonnaroo has been. Pending any atrocities (ie. woodstock 99) I think Bonnaroo will be around for a long long time.
Long enough to bring our kids to when they're older or our parent's to when we're older, either way I DO believe that 2004's roo will go down in history, the time is right, the idea has evolved and new people going have heard so many good things, they won't be dissapointed.
I also think last year alot of 10 ticket orders were placed and then tix were re-sold. People had a hard time getting rid of the extras they bought and wised up to only buying what they needed this year. Another is that I think alot of kids are planning on buying cheap tix in line to get in. I don't think it is the right thing to do, but I'm not in that kind of financial situation anymore. I've been pimping my dog in WV to raise ticket money. ;D
Sorry Jess, I should have been more respectful, but my wife is half owner of our dog and she lived in WV and in Hagerstown, MD. Can I still pimp him there?
Didn't they put approx. 20,000 more tickets up for sale this year? That may be a reason for no sell-out.
As for Widespread... I myself was *just* turned onto them at last year's Bonnaroo, and wish they'd return this year. But it isn't Superfly's fault they're not there this year... Widespread is on break until 2005.
It's okay, Tim. I'm definitely used to the whole "barefoot, toothless, pregnant, dog-doin', ford truck-drivin, snuff-spittin, ain't never seen nothin like this before" mentality associated with West Virginia. Actually, I've come to embrace it.
You got me rollin in tears darlin' ..... Hope you meet up with all of us at the playground at 11am Friday. Peace to all of our beutiful states......Snowshoe rocks, especially Cup Run.
I live in Mobile. The best things about that are that it's 1 hr from Pensacola, FL, 1 hr from Biloxi/Gulfport(casinos) and only 2hrs from New Orleans.
As for the "no sell out", probably in part due to WSP(I just turned on to them at the first 'roo, but most of the people that I've met at both were there to see WSP) but I also think that it's got to do with them adding 20,000 tix this year...they say they're expecting 100,000, not 80,000. Even though they've also added 100 acres, I'm wondering how much further the poor souls that get stuck on that property are going to have to walk.
