Hey..New here and I apologize if this is a repeat of someone else's post but I live in Memphis, TN and a warning to folks from out of state..WEAR SEAT BELTS. They have become very strict. I got pulled over literally after pulling out of my drive way onto a major street and they will give you a ticket not a warning. They are having a big campaign throughout TN about seat belts. Just a warning from a native Tennessean. Be safe and just remember wear your seat belt!

Yep this is true. It's very rare to see anyone driving around Nashville without their seat belt on. They may be texting, putting make-up on and driving like morons but they have their seat belts on Got to love Nashville drivers........
My brother-in-law and his brothers. My sister's been trying to get him to wear it for nine years. And yes, they live here, too.
These folks are right, everybody. Wear your damn seat belt, guys, really. They're allowed to pull you over for it now, not just only able to ticket you for pulling you over for another reason. Don't give them the excuse to pull you over, hope you don't know your rights, and try to search your car.
yeah like every state has the Click it or ticket shit. Plus i saw today in Maryland just driving onto a on ramp police where standing and watching cars for people on Cell phones ( new cell phone laws = lame ) and people with out seatbelts. At first i thought it was a speed trap but they had no equipment and as i drove by they had a sign with click it or ticket on one of the squad cars. LAME!

Even if I didn't like wearing my seatbelt, my car would drive me nuts til I put it on. The chiming never ends if you leave it off, which is a good thing I guess.

Mine does that, too. I have a mid-length wrap around driveway, and when I get home I stop at the end to get the mail. My car bugs the crap out of me starting about halfway to the back of the house. Hate to tell it, but about the only thing that can happen is me driving into the pool, and then I don't really want the belt on.
I live in Murfreesboro, which is a stones throw away from the farm and this is no joke. Cops around here go nuts for seatbelt laws especially in the summer and definitely during bonnaroo. Stay safe and under the radar and buckle up!

Just buckle your seatbelts people. Not doing so is an invite to be pulled over. A traffic stop for a seatbelt could quickly turn into a car search. Remember if you're bringing an RV, everyone in the vehicle needs to have an available seatbelt in case you get pulled over.
Are seat belts required for back seat passengers? I'm driving down with a friend that gets really hostile about it. I'm going to make him wear one when he is in the front or driving (it will be a battle, but its my whip) but it may be hard to enforce during back-seat nap time. We have about an 18 hour drive split between 3 drivers.

I know that in NY if you are over 16 you aren't required to wear a seat belt in the back seat. I can't say anything for TN though. But you may be passing through NY on your way, Bennaroo, so that may lighten up the drive a bit.
Im not sure about back seat..I know front passenger has to wear it or youll get pulled over just for the front passenger not having one on. I think they just passed a law about text messaging while driving also...kinda wierd..how would they know unless you just holding it in front of your face texting

thats why only old people get tickets for txting while driving.
i called and spoke with the Governor's Highway Safety Office and ALL PASSENGERS MUST WEAR THEIR SAFETY BELTS, as well as children must be in a proper child safety restraint. THIS INCLUDES BACK SEAT PASSENGERS.
That's the law down here in FL so I thought I would double check. EVERYONE BUCKLE UP.
(actually this weekend, at the minor league baseball game, officers will be there handing out "tickets" for people who ARE wearing their seat belts..... tickets to another game, as a reward for buckling up. pretty neat positive-reinforcement p.r. for the click it or ticket program)
I called my buddy whos dad is a cop and he said that any over the shoulder seat belt must be worn nationwide. Waist seatbelts are at the passengers discretion. Thats his exact words.

Wear seatbelts! I know Click-it-or-ticket may be nation wide, but the officers around here set up checkpoints everywhere and are VERY strict. I don't care where you are sitting in the car, just to make sure you don't get a ticket, buckle in, yo!

The last thing I want is to get pulled over for doing something right!
for example: are you supposed to turn them on when it's raining??
Yes.

Such headlights shall be displayed during the period from one-half (1/2) hour after sunset to one-half (1/2) hour before sunrise, during fog, smoke, or rain and at all other times when there is not sufficient light to render clearly discernible any person on the road at a distance of two hundred feet (200') ahead of such vehicle.

(2) Notwithstanding any provision of the law to the contrary, any person who is arrested or receives a traffic citation for violation of the provisions of this subsection (b), upon conviction, shall not be fined more than the maximum fine nor less than the minimum fine as provided by law for such violation nor shall any cost be imposed or assessed against such person. It is always a good idea to turn your lights on when it's raining whether legally required or not.

Verily. In some states light use is tied to using windshield wipers, so some people that use products like RainX refuse to use them in the rain because they don't have to. There's no nice way to put this: I find that to be incredibly unwise, especially on higher speed roads. People in white or gray vehicles - with all the spray from the wet roads, we can't see you!
