To be fair, I've been watching and hoping to see a re-release of the Stillwater/Almost Famous album on vinyl for many years and the only prices were in the hundreds (more than the $200 a pop here). I've been following this release for a while but could never justify the high price: www.discogs.com/Various-Almost-Famous-Soundtrack/release/817913
I just loved the idea of the soundtrack plus the original songs. Also, I've got a collection of soundtracks so that makes me more biased.
But with this? I'm interested.
That said....I have to really look into this to see if I even want to spend $200 on it. Gotta check out the different options.
Edit: Yeah...the fact that they now split the "Stillwater" original songs into an EP and the regular soundtrack on its own definitely feels like they knew a bunch of people (like me) were clamoring for some kind of re-release. Still...I'm weak and will likely go for the box set of 6 LPs.
Its just a big grab on trying to find ways to get people to bite on something like this. I have a friend who has the original lp and was thinking about selling it now cause its going for so much in general. The t shirt is awesome though. Im sure it wont be difficult to find when it hits stores. And in the uk apparently there is a clear version of the double lp and its like $60 at least.
If anyone wanted a nice discount on vinyl, Sound of Vinyl just started their summer sale. 25% off your entire purchase which includes pre orders. Code is SUMMER25. They also have a referral you can send to other people after your purchase that gives them $10 off and you $10 off any order over $50 which isnt too bad. They have a whole section of under $20 records and some pretty good and varied selection. Dont be surprised at how much is out of stock. They got cleaned out during the holidays when they had a 30% off sale but theres things to find.
Last week stlallison and I went to a great store called Record Exchange in St. Louis; I ended up buying a couple of Loretta Lynn albums based on what she was wearing on the front cover, Television's Adventure, and Donna Summer's Hot Stuff. But I want to give credit to Allison for a great accidental find; she came across an album by Headpins; a Canadian hair metal band that put out a few albums in the 80s and apparently still performs today that's notable for being one of the only hair metal bands to have a woman in it (even more interestingly, they're never mentioned on lists of similar bands that I tried googling later). We both picked up a copy of Head Over Heels, their final album that only remains on vinyl and cassette. It's a lot of fun!
Glad they opened this up to non-members. Idk if you're on the fence but if you don't have any VMP releases, they're quality and you'll be glad you did.

I used to sub. Atrocity Exhibition is my favorite pressing from them
Paul Tollett, chief executive of Goldenvoice and co-founder of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, will open the shop at 3222 Los Feliz Blvd. under a 10-year lease agreement with Elliot Megdal & Associates.
Tollett is also behind the Glass House Record Store in downtown Pomona. The new store will be named Record Safari Los Angeles and is expected to open this year.

If any of you happen to be in St. Louis, you should definitely check out this place. I think we're known for Vintage Vinyl, but the Record Exchange is a trip. It's located in a building built in the 50's that was once a city library and absolutely loaded floor to ceiling in merchandise. They have been in business for 45 years and I'm fairly certain 50% of the merchandise has been there since day one. If you like to really dig for finds, this is your place.

Guess they didnt get as many orders as they thought they would. VMP also has Psychic as their record of the month for May so safe to assume thatll open up to non members too.

They kept the name after the film! And the record store at the festival was unofficially called that. This is gonna be right across the street from the Los Feliz 3 par golf course.

I used to work at a Record Exchange in Roanoke, VA many many moons ago. I was full-time through most of the 90's and went to part-time around 2000. They shut down a few years later. This was the shop in SW Virginia as they had locations in Salem, Blacksburg, and Lynchburg. I could easily transfer stuff I wanted from one shop to another and never had to drive anywhere.

One year a guy and his family opened up a new store called Vinyl Exchange but since it was on Long Island they had it as Long Island Vinyl Exchange a.k.a. LIVE.
The guy, John, was so cool and would talk your ear off and give reccomendations based on what you were buying. Told me about a lot of older artists to check out when I was getting some Tom Waits. They were going to expand and then move to a new space that would allow for live performances. The old store closed and then the new one never opened and it was like they disappeared. Still wonder about what went down.
Really miss that place. It opened up and became my go to store the year after I saw a guy grab 4 out of 5 copies of a My Morning Jacket RSD release before anyone else could grab it. LIVE did the "One copy per person" rule first. Then Looney Tunes added that after.
Yeah there were a few local shops here that I miss. There was one local chain called Penny Lane that had great stuff. And Backside Records which leaned a little more hip hop but they always got hard to find and exclusives. They were able to have an in store with System of a Down when Steal This Album came out which was awesome. And would do midnight openings for releases. I miss that a lot when Virgin Megastore used to do that. They would open at midnight and only stay open for an hour to let you get new releases.
I Ike Vintage Vinyl way more but Record Exchange definitely beats VV on quantity
For newer stuff, I've actually been going to Euclid Records more than Vintage Vinyl recently. I think their prices are better. The Record Exchange is fun if you have a lot of time to kill.

So if you're looking to kick start your jazz collection, I'd look into this. This package was gifted to me several months ago and while I have them all, it's still a pretty sweet deal for the price.
I got :
Ella Fitzgerald And Louis Armstrong - Ella's & Louis Charles Mingus- Ah Um Stan Getz / Joao Gilberto - Getz / Gilberto Duke Ellington/Charlie Mingus/Max Roach - Money Jungle Eric Dolphy - Out To Lunch
If I was guaranteed the Dexter Gordan and Wayne Shorter albums, I'd gladly pick it up.
