The first couple years attendance was not kept rigidly. Estimates were 100,000+
As of '04 (I think) Coffee County began levying a tax on each ticket so there should be hard numbers after that. Around then they lowered attendance to around 80,000 (not including volunteers, staff, vendors, etc.)
first year was around 65-70k 2nd year was 85-90 3rd year was 85-90 i believe they capped the capacity at 75k for remaining years.... last year or 07 was the least attended.

Ticket sales were way down last year. I heard somewhere around 65k and it was certainly much less crowded.

Yep. And also, they sent out an email that said "we're sold out!" in 2007. I was under the impression that it got to like 90k+ in 2004 and that's when they decided to cap it at 80k.
There was also a LOT of gate crashing the first few years. I remember people streaming in through the outside fence into Centeroo in '02, '03 and I think '04. They've posted security and cut down on that now.
The official counts for early Roos are probably low due to this unofficial attendance too. I heard TV News estimates as high as 150,000 those first years (not likely.)

It has been a while since I have seen it in print, but I am pretty sure that in 2004 the unofficial attendance as estimated by Coffee County was around 105,000 including gate crashers, but not bands and crew.
