I've never camped in the tent only section, but I think we're probably gonna do it this year. Those of you that have camped there, a couple of questions:
How quickly does the available space disappear?
Do they regulate the campsites at all? i.e. are there designated spaces or walkways or anything? or is it just a free-for-all?
Last year, there was plenty of space up until probably late Friday. We got there around 9:30 on Thursday morning and pretty much had our pick of where we want to set up and how much room. But don't be greedy!
And there's no sort of regulation; no designated walkways or anything. We picked a spot next to the roadway in tent-only so we could find our campsite easily without walking around other people's spots.
It's pretty much just a free for all, as long you don't abuse the priviledge (ie taking up huge amounts of space)
As for how fast it fills, that varies as Tent Only seems to vary every year. If they do what they did in '08, it will be pretty full by Thursday evening but you can find camping space on Friday and even Sat if you look hard enough and ask nicely to squeeze in .
I have walked through tent only before to meet up with other inforooers and it can get pretty packed. If you realize that all locations in tent only are close to centeroo, then pick a spot not super close to the arch and you'll be fine. It gets a lot less cramped the further you get from the arch. It will certainly fill in by Thursday night or Friday morning.

I'm probably gonna be doing tent only with my friend but he gets in about 5 hours after me. Do you think people mind if I try to save a spot for him next to my tent. i was thinking of bringing an extra old bed sheet to layout to hold his place. Are most people cool with this?
I have a friend volunteering who will be getting to roo early and setting up camp. Me and my buddies are planning on getting their Thursday morning... Should we have any trouble finding our tent?

Not sure exactly what you are asking - but if they think that they can set up early in tent only - they are mistaken - they will not let you into tent only until around 7 or 8 a.m. if I remember correctly.

My friend who is volunteering has to be on site by Wednesday night I believe, so I was hoping that Thursday morning he would go and set up camp in tent only as soon as it opens and then sometime after that we would all meet up. So I was just wondering how hard it should be to find our camp site.
^^I guess it would not be bad if you can tell him to set it up close to one of the roads. If he sets you up in the middle of tent only and then a bunch of people set up around it - it may be a little harder to find

Yeah most people should be cool with this, if you just explain the deal and its only about 5 hours difference. If you have something like a bed sheet to mark the territory all the better. You just gotta make sure you hang out by your tent and lay down the law... I will be in tent only and setting up EARLY so maybe i'll see you there...

coolio. i figure most people would understand. plus I plan on making friends with my neighbors so hopefully things will work out. did all the shoPping today and have started to pack . ROOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
Do some people set up their tents/sleeping arrangements at their cars, then set up a second "hang out" tent in tent only to have a place to chill, eat, etc. while still being close to centeroo? We are going RV, but was thinking that if we were far out, that we might set up a second "home away from home" in tent only just to have a place close by to chill, party, eat, etc. in between shows and so forth? What's everyone's thoughts on this idea?

There are lots of travelers and others that will probably relying on tent only as their home (including my crew) and with around 80000 people in attendance, the roo gods may not look kindly upon taking 2 campsites...

I dunno how helpful that would be, just because you'll be at centeroo most of the time. Having three places to chill seems a bit much for all the stuff thats going to be going down

I know I wouldn't be too pleased knowing that I was more cramped at my campsite simply because someone wants a place to hang out

i know of someone that did this last year and they said that they never had much use for the extra campsite.
