Congtats on the promo ! But believe it or not, you are actually setting a good precedence. Obviously you are a mart, hard worker or you wouldn't have gotten the promo in the first place. Now they know that you are going to just rearrange your entire life and put your job at the center regardless - too many people do that and believe me any job (an employer) will take EVERYTHING you are willing to give and then some and there is no amount of money or success that can make up for a life missed. Keep a balance, good employers are beginning to realize THAT is what makes a good employee, reasonable people who recognize what REAL emergencies are and what REAL priorities are. Not the workaholics who jump at every OT request and who act like firefighters all day just to end up missing every vacation they ever had planned just because "the schedule slipped" again....

June is "busy time" for me @ work. Vacations are generally frowned upon because it puts everybody else in a bind to cover for you. That said, when the owner gave me that "GUILT" look, all my employees absolutely SHAMED her. Massive karma to my peeps! This is gonna be a blast and life is far too short to put work before yourself.
well - I have put in for a new job also - have not heard anything yet - but bet I will hear right before Bonnaroo - it doesn't matter - my vacation has been requested and approved by the higher - ups - I am going
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Well, I assume that given what I've read from you folks on this board, I may be preaching to the choir BUT the older I get the more I'm convinced that I'm not defined by what I do.
I mean, at this stage of life, I'm now responsible for a family and a mortgage and I still care DEEPLY about the work I do...but it's the little things (if we consider Bonnaroo little) that make life worth having. And for you young..young..folks on here...life is a lot shorter than you think.
You'll be like me...old family guy before you know it.
EDIT : I'm only 35...but really, you know what I mean. I think I'm a summer instead of a spring.

I have a grown up job and I have spent the last 6 months making sure that my calendar was clear from 06/15- 06-21... two days ago I received a subpeona for court deposition (have to appear to give expert testimony) on 06/18. I advised our counsel that my schedule was "purposefuly" cleared so I would not be able to make it, and that it may not be in the best interest of the company for me to be deposed shortly there after as my memory may not be serving me properly... I was told that my memory not serving me properly may be in the best onterest of the company in this case... I laughed all the way back to my cube. corporate america is ridiculous.
