I talked with a friend that has a small band in Atlanta and his said it will be back this year. I told him I wont belive it untill the lineup, but he is a very trustworthy guy. So cross your fingers and pray for 2009 Echo Project.

I thought i read somewhere that the guy who paid for everything isn't interested in doing another one until 2010. I thought he was on a sailing trip or something. So I won't believe anything until an announcement but echo project was fun. I love smaller fests with big name acts.
I'm afraid I have some bad news for everyone who was hoping Echo would be back this year.
Here's what Michael Allegretto told me today: ============================================== Michael Allegretto to me 11:26 AM (1 hour ago)
Dale,
Unfortunately EP has been shelved for another year. Given the economy the decision was made to ramp up for 2010.
MA ============================================= On the positive side, they do plan to bring it back next year.

Echo 07 was the most fun festival experience I've had to date. The bands were great, the venue was perfect and the people were amazing. It was so intimate.
My group came in the night before and got set up before the majority of the people even got there. The first day, before any bands played, The Flaming Lips played Free Radicals to me, 5 friends and about 50 other people on the main stage. It was ridiculous.

what band is your friend in? Were they contacted to play? I think on a business level echo project was a huge flop where they lost lots of money. On a how awesome is this festival level it was great because it was a super small festival crowd wise with a stacked lineup. The whole weekend I kept thinking how they will not have this festival because of the attendance level was so small, they sold something like 9000 tickets where with the lineup they had should have had 25,000 people there. They annouced the festival 2 months before it happened which is not enough sufficient time for people to plan or prepare to go, plus people probably didn't hear about the festival until about a few weeks before it and they only advertised locally in atlanta or the southeast. It was weak planning on the business side I heard they basically put all there money into getting the bands which I appreciate because the festival was stacked but they poorly planned the marketing to get the people in.

honestly, if one happens and i had to choose roo or echo project, i'd probably go with echo, for one it's closer to home, and for two just to change things up a bit.

i like echo because of what it is, the lineup. and its far enough after roo i can do both. its also good because its a tad cooler there for those who cant do the roo heat. heat doesnt bother me but i do tend to discourage others from going to roo if they are really sensitive to heat.
i think they need to get going on this if they are going to do it this year. at one point it was mentioned that they would move echo from october til spring? so maybe EARLY 10?

Yeah I kept having the same thoughts all weekend. It was so amazing partly because of how small it was.
I keep telling myself that its all part of a masterplan. Every single person I have ever talked to about Echo said it was amazing, so I always hoped they stacked it like that to get word out for later years. Echo may have been small but it has a great reputation and tons of people waiting for it to come back. I imagine the next time they do it it will explode.
