Ive noticed in the past couple weeks that there have been some threads on how to get a good amount of camping space so i decided to share what my friend recently found out when he sent an email to roo
this is his question
Hi, my friends and i are coming down to bonnaroo for the first time this year and we are carpooling from CT. I just have a question about how much space we have to camp because if we are carpooling with 5 people and we have 2 tents then there isnt going to be a whole lot of space for us to set up our tents. Is there any way that, because we are carpooling, have a little more room to set up? Our only other option would be to take 2 cars down from CT and that would not be easy on our wallets, or environmentally friendly.

Thanks for getting in touch. Normally you would have about 10 feet by the width of your car but we encourage carpooling and if you inform the parking staff of your situation, they should be more than happy to leave you more space. See you soon!
just thought that this would help other carpoolers and answer the "will i have enough room" question.
I would tell your friend to print that email out and bring it with him. Most of the Roo staff is cool (they are volunteers, right) but sometimes you get people who go on a powertrip when they get the slightest bit of authority and dealing with peole like that can be annoying. I'm not saying that you will encounter an a$$hole parking staff person, but you just never know. Having the proof would be handy.

Very interesting! I agree with Jenkazoo, printing that email out would probably be a good idea. And even so, I wouldn't really COUNT on that - make sure you have a back up plan and can work it out somehow even if they don't give you a little extra space.

The parking staff volunteers aren't going to care about your nice letter. It is their job to pack people in. Remember - they have no real authority, they are guides. Ignore them (but don't be a jerk) when they motion you to park 6 inches away from the car beside you. Leave space between yourself and the car you park beside. That is the only way to get a little extra space.
Maybe make friends with the people in the car behind you after the tollbooth, inform them of your situation/plans, and ask them to "swing wide" when they park their car as well.
Taking a copy of the email wouldn't hurt. Last year I informed the parking jerk we had 2 camps in the truck and he still packed us in like sardines. My friend had to share my tent because there was absolutely no room for her tent. My fiance was "detained" the day before Roo and was not with us so it was not that big of a deal to share. But if had been...

This is a good post -- I wondered this myself yesterday, when I was thinking about Roo urging carpooling and yet giving so little space for parking. Hopefully since they're making such a point of carpooling, they'll be more generous with parking in such situations. I'd definitely bring the email plus make friends with neighbors and also swing wide -- my experience has also been that they pack you in. One thing you can also do once you get parked is negotiate with your new friends/neighbors to see how you might all jeririg the parking/campsites (before tents or shade structures go up) to make more room for everyone. One year we did that and ended up getting people on all sides to angle their cars almost in a circle; then we all split up the interior space into our own camp sites (with generally more room for everyone) and also a nice open area for a breeze. Plus we all kept any eye on each other's stuff and had some new friends to hang out with.
