It's tiny. Do you think tent tape would fix it? I've never actually used the stuff. Or should I bite the bullet and buy a new tent? I don't want to get rained on!

yeah they sell tent repair kits for like $3 in any outdoor gear store. i always bring an extra shock cord, a few extra stakes, some sealant, and a patch kit.
If its a decent brand, like coleman, it may still be under warranty. If all else fails, you can prob just get a new rainfly if its a good brand-ie coleman.
It is a Coleman tent, but I've had it for at least 4 years now. If I patch it or duct tape it, is it reliable? The hole is right over the screen on the top. If it leaks, I'm screwed.

Apparently you aren't familiar with the miraculous powers of duct tape. Trust me a small hole in a tent, yes even a four year old coleman, is well within the capablities of this miracle worker to take care of. Just make sure the surface is clean on both sides and apply tape to both sides. The tape will come loose one day, but by then I'm pretty sure it will have been buried in a landfill for a few years.
Well, to be honest, I've been sort of looking for an excuse to buy a new tent. The one I have is too big for just me and doesn't have much airflow. I've been telling myself that my tent is perfectly fine and has kept me dry many times. In fact, I think it's been rained on every time I've used it. I may scout around for a new one anyway...
But, in case I come to my senses and remember that I'm broke, won't the duct tape get sticky and yucky when you pack the tent up?

OK, you've convinced me you need a new tent. If you decide to get one for Bonnaroo, just bring the old tent with you and I'll take it off your hands. I need an extra tent. I do a lot of camping.

ahh my coleman also has a rip in the rainfly... but it's just just a hole, its 2 or 3 large gashes... it seems like my sister had to cut out some material for some life saving activity.
i was thinking i could just put a tarp under it and it'd be ok - but now with it probably going to rain at roo - i'm thinking i should just buy a new tent.
it might be fixable with duct tape but --- i mean, it's GASHES not a hole. lol. pretty much i have no rainfly? lol.

^Clean up around the gashes, place duct tape on both sides, smoothing out the bubbles, so that when you fold your tent back up the bubbles don't pull up and create passages for water. Do this to both sides and you should be fine. If you don't trust the tape get a repair kit. It's really a shame to get a new tent for stuff like this. (unless of course the gashes are huge)
Okay, okay, I'll fix it. I wasn't really considering trashing the tent. I would have still fixed it and tested it out at some point. It's only a dime sized hole. I've already replaced a pole for this tent. (Grrr... don't loan tents!)
This the first tent of my adult life. I just don't have any experience with repair kits and I can't help but think of the repair kits for inflatables that never really work right. But I will trust the expertise of inforoo and patch it.

This thread reminds me of my boss at a grocery store in high school. I would take damaged goods to him and he would always say"Put a lil tape on it, it'll be alright."

It's true man. Tape is good. From material goods to our foodstuffs, we live in a society where any little flaw becomes undesirable, even if it does not affect items. Sick. /tangent Waste not want not
(Just to contain some sort of relevance I urge anyone in this predicament that decides to indeed get a new tent, to pack the old one in case an issue arises for some poor roo'er....or sumtin! )
