Quick question! What is easier to do? I am looking for the best way to Roo. Should we take the backroads. Ex. taking Rt. 111, 70, and 55. Or should we go down to Chattanooga and head north from there. I have only came down from the norht for all of my Roos. Just wandering if anyone as some better ideas. Thanks.
I would go Chattanooga if I were you, it is all Interstate. Just DON'T SPEED, especially in the 1 mile stretch that is in Georgia, also do not get off at that exit, get all your shopping done in Chattanooga, and role straight into 'roo from there, and it should be a pretty easy trip.
You are best to go down to Chat from Knoxville and then up again to Manchester. It may look and feel like it is round-about, but it's way quicker than trying to take the small highways cross the state. Go speed limit and you'll be good.
Am i correct in believing that it will be about 3 hours from Knox to Manchester? We got a hotel room in Oak Ridge, against my advice, and mapquest told me to take 40 but I think going to Chat. will be better since that's what we've done every other year.

I went via 55 last year and didn't have any problems. And we got in the gates at the same time as a few friends who had left Knoxville two hours before we did (they took I-24).
I'm wondering if the contingent of folks leaving the Phish show will make for a larger number of Wednesday overnight arrivals or if Wal*mart will just get more crowded.
Like others have said, go to Chattanooga and then take I-24 up to Manchester. A good place to do the "last stop", gas, ice, pee on I-24 is after you clime a huge mountain on I-24. There is a place called Big Daddy's Fireworks in the center of the highway. After you leave form there it's not much further.

Right before you come off the plateau, there is a Piggly Wiggly in Monteagle, TN, off exit 134. That might be a less-crowded alternative to Wal-Mart for last minute provisions.
There is a Walmart in Cleveland. Should be the first Cleveland exit, (# lost my mind, Paul Huff PKWY)
I am heading from Chatt to Knox for Phish, heading back to Chatt to grab the loaded Jeep for Roo and then probably leaving Chattanooga around 4A.M. or so. Any idea on a time the Phish show will be over?

If you're doing 75 to 24... no. It'll take 1/2 - 1 hour longer than that depending on traffic.
From Chattanooga to Manchester there are also WalMart at Lookout Valley and South Pittsburg, both right off the interstate.
Oh- and why not stop in Georgia? The gas and cigarettes are cheaper. I stop there at least twice a week.
Well, if you recall the drive to Chatt, I'm about 30-40 miles out of it, and 41 from 'Roo, so you're looking at another 70-80 miles from there. Hope I'm helping.
Yeah, just stick to the interstates. I would worry about rolling through McMinnville on a state highway.
^^this is me with blue lights last year.
but I am still gonna go this way because it was so easy to get there last year! It was definitely my smoothest roo journey... except for well, you know.
I guess some people never learn.
Just remember everyone, SPEED KILLS (your buzz)
Also, if anyone passing through knoxville wants to hit me up tonight me and my friends will be getting ready to roo it. you can shoot me a PM if you get bored after PHISH.

I live in the Oak Ridge area. I-40 to state road 55 is more direct for you. I guess it just depends on your comfort level with interstate vs. state highways. 55 is a four lane if I remember correctly.

You could actually 'interstate' it to Chattanooga (I-24) and then hit Manchester (which is only about an hour from Chattanooga). Total time is ~2.5 hours.
