On the Bonnaroo website they say that people from Tennessee should consider taking Hwy 55 into bonnaroo. Has anyone done this before? It looks like it would cut out all the annoyingness from coming in along I24 and being at the mercy of the signage and the traffic gods. I was thinking of coming along I24 from nashville and exiting at Murfreesburo and going towards McMinnville, then taking the hwy55 down until i get to the upper part of bushy branch road. Any thoughts? Could this totally backfire?
I live in Jackson, MS, and I have taken Hwy 55 (up through Lynchburg) 3 of my 6 years. According to yahoo maps, the distance is a little shorter than taking the interstate...but of course you can't go as fast. One of the main reasons I didn't take it last year was b/c I kept hearing they were going to have cops and road blocks, etc., but I don't think that was really true. Just me being paranoid.

I live off of 55 in Manchester and during Roo I have to go the back way to McMinnville to Murfreesboro to avoid traffic. It really depends on what time / day you are coming in and the road blocks depend on traffic conditions. They change them with the flow so it is hard to say. I am local and I have had my car searched on the exit ramp during in 07. What day are you coming in on?
I'm coming in on Thursday morning (early, because I'm staying at a friend's in nashville). I want to try that route but I just wanted to make sure it wasnt going to be blocked. I cant see it being slower than the I24 madness, but I could be horribly mistaken. Last year we were extremely lucky coming in on the I24 .... we were the first car they guided into a new route and we got in within an hour and a half.
Do you think that turning off of 55 onto bushy branch, going along Ragsdale that little bit and then going back down the rest of bushy branch would be reasonable? Last year we came in along cornelison and we didnt see any cars coming down bushy branch to merge with us. I wonder if hwy 55 traffic was being all diverted to the I24 though .... its possible i guess.....
katerade... were you coming from the north? I wonder if I was right behind you with similar luck. They took us 10 miles out of our way south, but it paid off. I was really hoping that I could go a similar route and get that back exit again to avoid the madness on the highway.
Ya thats exactly what happened. We ended up coming all the way back on that road that runs parallel to the highway and we could see all the traffic just stopped in the other direction.
I've found going through Fayetteville on Hwy 64 east to Hwy50 to lynchburg then 55 to manchester is faster most of the way is free of cops. You might find a few cops in the cities. I've visited Jack Daniels a few months ago with family and found Hwy 64 in Fayetteville is now 4 laned it was nice to travel on and made the trip faster. Last year it was under construction.
