Are there any roo artists you will be seeing that maybe don't fit in with your typical music tastes or who your friends might tease you for seeing? Mine is Robert Earl Keen. I don't love country music, but I got into him as a teen, and I still like him. My bf will be at Eykah Badu, b/c he calls country or anything like it "dying cat noises"
^yes, me too. And I think they are from Atlanta (or at least close by) because they have been playing bars here for years....it was crazy to me that they made to the radio and roo. And there other stuff is good (at least what they've played here in the past) it's not all that "dying cat" country, more rock-ish/bluegrassy.
Yeah, thats what I figured, I haven't listened to anything else by them so thats why their on the list of bands to see. Good to hear that the rest of their music is good.
Don't worry, the Guilty Pleasures thread (from about six months ago) was about who you would enjoy seeing on the farm that wouldn't typically be on there. You should be cleared by the IBTL police.
I think that I've been to Roo enough that I no longer really have anybody out of my comfort zone. Actually, I don't know that I would still pay money to see Public Enemy but I am really looking forward to their set and I've been a fan for almost twenty years now. So, Public Enemy. Final Answer.
A Thieve's Parade 2/24 Conspirator 2/26 Kevin Smith 3/11 Keller 3/17 Papadosio 3/18 JJ Grey 3/25 Bela Fleck/Edgar Meyer 3/26 Toubab Krewe 3/27 O'Death 4/11 Budos Band 4/22 EOTO 4/28 Summer Camp 5/6-29 All Good
I think my group will also be stopping by at the Zac Brown Band tent, after Passion Pit. One of the girls in my group just recently saw them; she said it was really good. She said they played all over the place, even some reggae kinda stuff. Normally I would scoff at country music, but I'll give ZBB a chance. I don't think I really have a guilty pleasure on the farm this year. Maybe Triumph.
Don't feel guilty for checking her out. She's an amazing performer. I've seen her at least twenty times, I'd bet, and I've never been left dissatisfied.
Plus, she just opened for David Byrne the other night and I wouldn't be entirely shocked to see them do something together.
I hate that chicken fried song, but I like country a lot so I plan on checking out zac brown band. That's the only thing id classify as a guilty pleasure
Garth Algar: Do you ever get the feeling Benjamin's just using us?
Wayne Campbell: Good call. It's like he wants us to be liked by everyone. I mean Led Zeppelin didn't write tunes everybody liked. They left that to the Bee Gees.
Lovell Sisters are bad ass musicians, actually. Can't wait for their set. That said, I don't think anybody at the 'Roo really qualifies as a guilty pleasure (at least for me). The day they have Tears For Fears there or maybe Cyndi Lauper or something, then I'll have a different answer.....
Zac Brown Band for me, too. Country isn't usually my thing, and when it IS my thing, it's usually the older stuff. But Zac Brown Band's fun. That "Toes" song could almost be a Jimmy Buffett hit. I'm looking forward to grabbing a beer, sitting back, and enjoying that show.
but mine is coheed and cambria, even though im not gonna be seeing them
Uh-oh you better tell the thread police that there might be *gasp* a double thread
And I will be at Coheed and Cambria too, but mostly just for the chance to see Warren w/them.
^^^^^ THISSSSS!!!!!!!! My husband yelled and called me obsessed because I have been planning my schedule around who Warren will probably sit in with. I will be at Coheed! After seeing them at Xmas Jam..... shhhhh don't tell anyone..... I kinda like them....
