I bring shoes for long walks and port-o-potties only. Barefoot the rest of the time. But I did learn a tough lesson last year. If you plan to kick off the flips at night, hook a glow stick to them! Lost my shoes one night and was forced to use a porto barefoot. It didn't bother me at the time, but sober the next day, I was pretty horrified. Not my best moment.
It's kind of funny: way back in the day, people used to wear "shower shoes" and stuff in the dorms and now I'm part of a conversation if it is necessary to wear shoes over a four day period outdoors amongst 80,000+ people.
Did none of you learn anything from John McClain about the danger of going around barefoot? Next thing you know Hans Gruber's going to be shooting out glass all around you and you and you'll end up jumping off a roof with a fire hose tied around you. Consider yourselves warned.
Points for referencing Die Hard as well as being from 'Cuse town!

You should always wear flops or something in a public shower to prevent foot fungus (athletes foot). That stuff flourishes in warm, dark, moist areas.
But it doesn't live long outside in the sun and open air, so it's hard if not impossible to get it walking on a dirt road or in field.
BTW, this is also why you should wear shoes in the port-os (well, that and staph, hepatitis, and a number of other reasons).
edit: I had said except California, but I misread. It says "NOT prohibited" instead of "permitted" like the other states.
The Web site says, "barefoot driving is not "recommended" by Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, Ohio, or Wyoming." I drove to and from Vincennes barefoot, MofroHead. Expect the same to and from Tennessee.

I always drive bare foot unless it is the winter and I have on shoes that are hard to take off while driving. Usually I am in flip flops or sandals and I just throw em to the side. I drive is a weird position though with one leg up in the seat with my foot under me. Probably not the safest way, but it is damn comfortable
