Hi, Im driving from jacksonville (Atlantic beach to be exact!), Florida and since this is my first year I was wondering if any FL Roogoers had route suggestions.
Google Maps suggests that I take I-10W out to I-75N and then take that all the way up through ATL to Chattanooga then I-24 to Manchester.
I'm thinking this may be a problem though considering I'd be going through atlanta during rush hour. I dont wanna be stuck in stop and go traffic for hours! So I was wondering if anyone knows a way around atlanta that isnt too far off the course. Would that even be worth it or should I just deal with the traffic?

I always go I-75 through Atlanta, I hit it just after lunchtime on Thursday and I've encountered heavy traffic but nothing that was stopped or jammed. Take I-75 and you'll be fine.
The fastest way through Atlanta during rush hour is 75N. 285 (the bypass) gets really bad. Atlanta traffic is HORRIBLE most of the time, so its hard to avoid unless you're driving through overnight.
Use the Google maps directions. I drive to Jax from TN all the time (family there) and I-75 is the way to go. ATL is not near as bad as it used to be now that they have carpool lanes. If you have company in the car I'd just go thru ATL and use the carpool lanes. They can be confusing so keep your eyes open but I think they're quicker than the by-pass, even at rush hour.
6PM shouldn't be too bad, depending on how traffic is today. As troo said, the HOV lanes are a MUST to get through atlanta quickly. They've added signs to most of the HOV lanes so they should be less confusing than before.

Honestly man, like the others have said, you won't have it all that bad so long as you avoid 285 at all costs. Will especially start to loosen up once you pass 575 and get north of Marietta/Kennesaw area.
