The main portion of my crew is headed down Thursday morning and another car is headed down Thursday night with some friends that could take off work the extra day.
The late car plans on parking wherever and coming to camp with the early crew at our site.
I'm trying to figure out how we will able to fit as much of the late car's gear and supplies in the early cars so they won't have to carry a bunch of stuff - but we won't be able to fit everything.
Question:
Will the golf cart taxis transport your gear from one camp site to another?
How much does it cost?
Let's say I want to transport 15 cases of beer and it takes up all four seats on the golf cart - will they charge us for 4 people?
Not really a big deal - probably only a matter of $20 or so - I'm just curious...
From what I've read elsewhere (I haven't been to Roo yet), last year the taxis were $5/person. With much speculation that if your gear took up a seat you would be also charged the $5 for each seat your stuff took up.
Hope that helps. I don't know how to do the thread linky thing and didn't have the time to go hunt down the thread that mentioned it.
I'm actually doing a similar thing. Except I'm the only one in my group showing up late - I won't arrive until friday afternoon. Everyone else is getting there Thursday morning. Anyway, I'm sending alot of my gear up with one of my friends. For transport to their camp I'm gonna bring a hand truck to load my cooler and whatever else I've got left onto. Then just walk and roll myself and gear to wherever they are...
Depending on how many of you are coming late, the camping space may be an issue, as mentioned above. I'll be meeting up with 4 people, who will arrive in 2 cars. So there will be 5 of us in 2 camp spaces. I think that will work, but if we were doing it with just one space I'd be a little worried about everyone fitting comfortably.
we had a similar problem last year... we ended up sleeping at the campsite that was furthest away (BFE) and then just hanging out at the campsite that was closer to Centeroo during the day... i woke up every morning and zombie-walked to the nearest taxi stand... and like someone else said, yeah, $5 per seat...

Actually last year was the first year they had taxi's and my experience with them was that they were kind of winging it out there being the first year and all. They were $5 a person but not many people were using them Thursday morning and they took us and whatever gear we could fit at no addtional charge.
I would also imaging that with everything in life, it all depends on who you are dealing with. One driver may not let you and another will.
Wheelman's right. Last year was the first year and they were winging it. They were mostly interested in tips last year, more than the actual fee. Out in BFE where they parked us, I spent about 20 minutes hailing a cab.
I think we loaded the whole thing up between my sister and I and we gave her a twamp when we reached camp-only.
One of the drivers was telling me they have a flat amount they have to make then over that they keep...I can't remember what but it was an amount for the entire weekend.

Nope. We really needed one to transport our gear. A taxi driver told me that they rent the cart and work for tips. probably not a lot of business on Monday.

Yeah, we talked to our taxi driver... she said that they only work for tips and the rest is for the Festaxi company( we made sure to tip her!) We left at 630 this morning and all the taxis were cleaned of the decorations... looked soooo lonely!
My car was stopped from getting through the gate to camping only by a security guy directing traffic. He threatened to call a sheriff on me if I tried to get in. I understand he is doing his job but hen I saw other cars getting past him.

I was in pod 1 and went to and from the camp site which is 30 minute walk away from the arch about 3 times a day... so i ended up spending about 15 bucks a day on those taxis... they should be free or cheap when you have to walk so far... i spent about 70 bucks on them so i could make it through the nights

This year, I learned that I can survive on one trip into Centeroo a day from Volunteer Camping. Next year I'll be biringing a third cooler for keeping beer cold in Camp Inforoo so I can make periodic beer runs during the day.

Why should they be free?
The festival is ultimately about making money. This is a way to make more money.

I was kinda pissed that they didn't start running the taxis until thursday afternoon. we had more stuff that we wanted to get to out camp and ended up having to carry it all. they were supposed to start running about 10 or 10:30am thursday like last year. we waited a couple hours by the taxi depot in BFE and then decided to hoof it because it started raining.

If you can't make this walk, I would rethink going to another Bonnaroo. I'm almost 6 moths pregnant and made that walk a bunch of times to catch the staff shuttle from vol camping. It's not that bad. And that was all before the festival even started. If you have an injury that makes the long walks hard, maybe you should think about access camping.

The Taxi on Thursday was a joke. We were in Camp Dr. Holly goodhead and had to wait until 2 pm to use the taxi service. Then once we actually got on it in the pouring rain, they wouldnt take us to Tent only. They dropped us off by the showers on Shakedown and we had to haul all of our stuff again to Tent only. Crazy crazy.
I was in BFE thurs morn as well, and was one of the people waiting from 10am-2pm at the taxi stands. The downpours just added insult to injury, as I was scrambling to put a tarp over my stuff. I was soaked to the core! Thankfully I was able to grab the 1st cart that came out, and I was dropped off about 50ft from tent only right infront of access day parking. Unfortunately, It was pouring at that point, so I had to drag all my stuff (alone) and set up my tent in the rain. I can't tell you how frustrated I was, haha.
After phish sunday night, something told me to go ask the taxi stand if they were gonna run monday. When they told me they were stopping at 4am, I packed up my campsite in the dark and JUST made the deadline. Unfortunately the person I caught a ride with wasn't going back to the car until monday, so I ended up sleeping next to the locked car on my sleeping pad on the cold wet grass.
After all this, I can still say I had a f'in great time at Roo

I never said i can't make the walk... i'm 17 for christ sake, i probably walk faster than you run. It's the fact that i don't enjoy a 40 minute walk to shakedown or centeroo, that get's tiresome in the heat of the day, by the time i get into centeroo i just want to lay down for 30 more minutes. It takes alot of time away.

I actually think I saw you Katy. Were you wearing a yellow shirt and sitting in a chair reading a book while waiting for the taxi? I was telling my group I think I know her, but woulda felt really stupid bouncing over to say hello to find out it wasnt you.
Can we PLEEEEASE make these electric? It wouldn't be hard, as there's the taxi station right outside of Centeroo by the handicap-accessible parking. How can you preach greening and then have all of these taxis charging people $5 for a gas-powered, exhaust-producing ride? Very hypocritical if you ask me.

On Monday we basically had to wait till around 12 to be able to drive our car to tent only. I had a great Roo, but Thursday sucked bad! Standing in the rain all day made me sick as hell.

It's all about stamina, not speed. But you are 17, so I understand.
