This time last year me and the guys were sitting under a Tennessee sky in Whispering Oaks campground, Manchester, on the buzz of our lives wondering what awaited us the next day. Upon leaving Bonnaroo on the Sunday evening we checked into Whispering Oaks again for recovery from and reflection on the greatest weekend of our lives. Even though we had travelled from the east coast of Ireland, we vowed to return to Roo every year from then on.
Unfortunately strictly because of finance, or lack of it, none of us are back this year. I am physically sick here thinking about what could have been, or should have been. I can't even justify my absence my claiming I have some cool stuff going on this weekend in place of Roo, I don't. In fact nothing I could do this weekend would keep my mind off Roo. I will constantly be thinking about cooling off at the fountain, making various interesting shapes in the silent disco, catching a slice or a kebab for sustainance and then washing it down with no. 9 on the grass outside Brooers tent. I will recall how quickly and easy it was to forget that all those girls were wearing next to nothing walking around in the afternoon heat, just an hour after walking into Centeroo for the first time! I will remember how the more I used a porta potty the more it didn't seem so bad, even though they were getting more rank by the hour. I will remember how carefree the atmosphere was and how outgoing every single person I encountered (except no one) was. Bonnaroo is Heaven on Earth, of that i'm sure. And the depression that comes along with not returning to Heaven this year is so bad that i've already put 300 bucks in the Roo 2010 fund.
Please do not take one moment of your time at Bonnaroo for granted, even if you are passed out beside the soundesk at the What stage with your shorts around your ankles and your head rested in your own vomit and bile, be happy!! and to avoid that, be safe in your craziness.

Yeah...I'm sad. Everyone I know is pretty much leaving to go to Bonnaroo. And I can't go this year because of financial reasons. Which is horrible for me because when I saw the line-up come out I was in awe...it was like a calling because just about every band that I have been getting into over the last bit are playing. So it's real hard to miss out on such greatness.
Well, we who are not going can thank those greedy corporate A holes who caused this whole financial meltdown. Roo did not sell out this year and we know who to blame for that.
I'm leaving for Manchester in t minus two hours, but just logging into this board is eerie. the past couple of months this board has been flourished with excitement and "BONNAROO!"s but in the past twelve hours all of it has vanished. I wholly and truly am sorry for those that cannot make it; if it was at all in my power as an unemployed (almost) 17-year-old to send every one of you to roo, i would, but i simply cannot. If you want, give me a message and i'll write it on the graffiti wall . that's the best i can do, i'm sorry.
and don't think i take my mother's wallet for granted. i have just wrote her a letter about how thankful i am and how much i love her and how thankful i am for her to buy my ticket, food, spending money- hell, even let her young son go! my birthday is in two weeks, and she says it's my birthday present, but my usual birthday present is a shirt and a full tank of gas. goddamn adderall just made me type this wall of text, but it's all true.
if you're bummed about not going, just think of it for the better. deaths are rare at bonnaroo, but there's always a chance it could be you- it may be a blessing you aren't able to go.
I was supposed to fly in and meet my friends. They just crashed their car. I feel sick to my stomach since it's looking like it's a superslim chance I will be going to Bonnaroo this year. At least you guys didn't buy your ticket and have months of anticipation come crashing down in one 3AM phone call.
Yep. Pretty bummed since yesterday when the posts virtually stopped. And now all the threads about the gates being open already, how many po-po are on the highway, etc., etc.
Oh well.
Making the best of it by looking forward to post-roo reports. Hell, with all the wireless toys, looking forward to on the spot posts as the weekend goes by.

I'm with y'all! I didn't go last year (went the three years before), but I didn't mind so much because I wasn't crazy about the lineup. When I saw the lineup this year, I almost decided to spend what was left of my tax refund and buy tickets, but I knew I wouldn't have the cash to cover other expenses (which I don't). Now, I'm sitting at work jealous as hell of all these people on their way. At least I'm going to TVOTR Saturday night, so that will be a small comfort. Looking forward to seeing everyone's pictures and hearing about the good times, though, even if it will just make me more jealous.

Second year in a row that I've missed. Last year, I was fine with missing since I also didn't care about the line-up. Then somebody offered me a free ticket. So I was pretty much excited about that. Then they didn't hold up to the deal and I got disappointed even for a line-up I didn't care so much about.
This year, it seemed the line-up was Made for me. Granted there are conflicts, there are amazing sets on this schedule. And I had to ditch because my friend is getting married on Saturday. That combined with the need to save money for a move later in the summer nixed my Bonnaroo plans.
I was pretty bummed earlier today, but I think this will make the next year I go even better--I just hope the line-up reflects that. REALLY bummed about missing Beasties, Band of Horses, and Animal Collective. If you're at Bonnaroo and you're reading this, GO TO THOSE SETS FOR ME. Kthnx. But this is not the last concert on earth, there will be more and Better ones in the future.

I know what you mean. I missed last year, which wasn't a big deal but this year makes me extremely sad because most of my favorite bands are playing in the same place. On top of that most of my friends went to roo or the beach. So I have nobody to hang out with really...this is the worst.

I made it a point last year (and now this year) to shut myself in at home, put the Blue Room stream on the big TV, and watch it all while keeping a laptop next to me so I could chat about it all on this forum.
This way, you beat the heat/dust/mud and overpriced food, and you get a comfy seat for every set.

That's what I plan on doing too. Watching the blueroom. Why isn't it on today? It still makes me sad because they didn't get really any of the bands that I really wanted to see on blueroom...they got some good ones but not the ones that I would have rather seen....like Yeasayer, Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, People Under the Stairs...those are some of the ones they don't have that I would like to see. I don't understand why they can't show the whole thing.

(Sigh) Well, you're all there right now, and, for the first time in a while, I'm not. I hope you all have a hell of a time at the brunch, and that the weather holds up, and that the sets are as legendary as always. One week from Saturday, I'm marrying a great girl, and with that, the Bonnaroo Gods will smile down on me for years to come.
I'm a Cubs fan, but it's still difficult to say it: Next year.
I spent all day yesterday at work thinking "I'd be in line right now if I were at Roo..." "I'd be setting up right now if I were at Roo" "I'd be having an Arepa now if I were at Roo..." I'm sure it'll get worse as the weekend rolls on and I look at the clock thinking "Robyn Hitchcock's playing right now, and I'm at home..." Bring on the antidepressants.

Yeah. I have my own little festie now here at home. Looking forward to that. Some great bands are coming. But, I'm staying positive regarding Roo. I know all my pals from here are having a blast, which is cool. I'm saving money now so I don't have issues when next Feb. rolls around. Is it June, 2010 yet??? ;D

*sigh* I have moments where I'm at peace with it, and then Josh says something like, "I'm sad about missing a lot of the bands, but I'm really bummed about missing the Beastie Boys."
I still feel like I should be there right now. I realized weeks ago that I couldn't make it, but it really hit this morning when I thought I should be waking up in a tent, not my own bed.
I just watched someone streaming the Phish set, I am not sure if it made me feel better or worse about not being there. I am glad I at least got to see/hear the show, but would have preferred to see it live and in person. This would have been my 6th roo (missed 2002 and 2006) so it has become my beginning of summer ritual. Despite the rain I know I am gonna be kicking myself for the entire next year about not going. It feels like something is just missing from my life and totally sucks to be sitting on my couch right now writing this.

I tried to astrally project myself into Centeroo on multiple occasions this weekend but to no avail.
All I could do to calm myself was to take refuge in the fact that I wasn't blown away by the lineup this year. Watching Bruce slide crotch first into the camera at the Superbowl Halftime show was enough of "the Boss" for me in the year 2009(this is me trying to convince myself I didn't miss anything). I do really miss the creativity and freedom of 'roo.
. that's the best i can do, i'm sorry.
