what was up with these? did i somehow manage to completely miss them last year? we must have waited over a half hour on friday before they just stopped checking people and let us in
Saturday morning before Jimmy Buffet was long as hell. We miss a lot of his set because they took so long. After we started yelling and chanting some staff guy came over and told them to let us in and it was like a flood gate.

I guess it just depends on which gate and when you got there. The biggest line I encountered the whole weekend was like 3 people long. When walking out a few times I did see much bigger lines though.
They ended up just letting us through Sunday when we went to Citizen Cope. We thought it was because it was Sunday, but when we came back for Snoop they were checking again. I usually didn't have long wait, though.

I'm feeling foggy, rather groggy right now, so please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't last year's security at the arch a bunch of volunteers? This year I kept seeing the same people over and over again, and they had AXIS written on their badges like they were security contractors or something.
Either way, they were more thorough this year, but it was still a joke for anything other than large items or weapons.
I only had one wait that lasted longer than a minute or two.

I had a pretty entertaining experience Friday morning. The gates by the ferris wheel were INSANE long, and not moving, so my crew and I decided it was worth the trot to the arches, where they were much shorter, but still moving very slow. I was the last in my group of 9 to make it through, and while this musclehead was very closely inspecting everything I had on me (pulling cigarettes out of my pack, opening my sanitizer to smell it, etc...), a supervisor from AC/Superfly showed up and started barking at the dude like a Marine D.I. People started cheering, and he kept yelling at the gate dudes to "hurry the quack up and get these people through, you lazy quacking sons of motherquacking douche bags!" After that, I neither waited in or saw another unnecessarily long line all weekend.
Seems like the searches got worse at peak time, which is when they should try amd speed things up. In the middle of sets you could breeze through with no search but when everyone was trying to enter to see a big name, they'd search every cigarette pack and backpack pocket.
At least this year, when the crowd got angry, a supervisor would come over and straighten the crew and and make them wave everyone through.

these were the worst searches out of my 3 roos. saturday we noticed the same people working also so we asked if they were volunteering and they told us they were paid security...which made some more sense. they were far too thorough though...you don't need to open every pack of cigs, unfold ponchos, look in each and every pocket of a backpack for every person. they were ridiculous.
we had a "marine sergeant" when going in through the ferris wheel enterance one time. only he was encouraging his people to check more. overall i'd say the wait to get into centeroo was way more stressful and ridiculous than any other year i've been (06 & 07)

Well in all fairness his crowd was much bigger than anything else on the which all weekend. Nobody expected 30,000 people there, I walked in at 11, and had a ten minute line. I heard though that by 11:15 it was a clusterquack.
One guy even tryed to get me to open up my ice breaker ments that were never open and still had the plastic around it, I told him he was nuts. I only got waved in twice all the other times I had to open every zipper in my backpack and turn out all my pockets on my shorts. The worst was going in Sunday night before Snoop. Thank good the never made me take off my plasticast for my arm or check my sanuk pockets They also never checked what was in my camelbak baldder.
I thought security was much more thorough this year than years past. The one guard opened a sealed water bottle i had to smell it. I was like dude it was just sealed. Also, i saw some wook book it through the security lines and take off running.
I had no problem with security at all, I would always headed into Centeroo around 10am everyday and I never really went back to my tent once I was in. There were no lines and security would always just give a quick peak inside my backpack and a quick pat down. I probably could have sneaked a nuclear bomb in if I had wanted too.
The lines weren't bad for us. We had to wait maybe three times but we were close to the arch so we went back to the camp site quite a bit to re-fill. Being female comes in handy. I only had one good inspection the whole time! Any time I had the back back they either didn't even check it or just glanced in the top, and it I just had my camera case I was only asked it I had any drugs or weapons on me. I saw other people having to take hats off, going through pockets, and what looked like a full cavety search. I had one bottle of water taken from me cause apparently you cant take in more than two per person ???? and when he tossed it to the ground I just scooped it back up on my way past him and went on my merry way.

that's another thing i was told this year and had never heard in the past. a guy tried to tell me that and i said "show me in writing where that's a rule" and he let me through telling me i better only have 2 next time. i went through with some cool security people, but also encountered my share of dbags as well.
The only reason some of the security are such dicks is because everyone tolerates it. Not me. I was stuck in that mob at the arch Fri morning around 12-1 ish and started giving them crap, yelling "HURRY THE QUACK UP DICKHEADS" and such. When it got louder as others joined in, they suddenly just started waving everyone thru. That was my only real wait all weekend.

we became good friends with our neighbors and one put her meds in my camelbak so she wouldnt have to carry them around...saturday there was a stupidly long line because this guy was searching every centimeter of every bag...he ended up making us go back to our tent to put her meds there because she wasnt carrying the prescription on her. like shes going to pull a piece of paper from the doctor out of her ass.
no line? it was like this every day for us. no matter what time we entered.
i got a neat video one day of people screaming "what do we want? IN when do we want it? NOW" and "let! us! in!" to the tune of Obama's yes we can chant. the wait was generally 5 minutes but the first day it was probably 10 before they opened the flood gates.

By the ferris wheel entrance my friend got bitched out by a security guard because we brought in 6 waters for the two of us for the whole day on Saturday. The lines weren't bad though between 10 and 10:45 which was when I went in on Fri, Sat, and Sun.
They also never checked what was in my camelbak baldder.
At one point by the faris wheel, they were searching the hardest I've ever seen. They unzipped everything, took out and un-rolled my blanket, patted me down, and yet they failed to realize my CamelPak was completely full of 80 Proof rum.
Lines were just ridiculous most of the time. I only got searched a few times because I would be in like for 15 minutes, then they would just let every in. People in front of me would have their wallets searched, flashlights taken apart, etc, then other people would have their stuff barely looked at. Most of the time when my backpack was searched, the zippers were just un-done and I was let through.

My wife and i were camped in BFE pod 1 and entered centeroo through the side entrance at the What stage. We had absolutly no wait any time we went in. We also brought a gallon jug of water with no problems. I had to laugh when we came in during Snoop Dogg, the young security lady was dancing so hard she kind of looked annoyed when she had to stop to pat my pockets and say your good. My bag i was carrying was not opened or looked in and was barely touched. The only time we waited in line was Thursday when we came in through the main arch.
They also never checked what was in my camelbak baldder.

I thought it was somewhat funny.
Yep had the same experience there also. They went through everything, patted me down and let me walk in with a huge full cup of Margarita ;D

I must've had a great luck of the draw because I never waited more than 5 minutes in line and they never patted me down or looked in anything I had with me this year... maybe it was a cosmic tradeoff for having to make the trek from our camp what seemed like a mile away several times a day?
