Yep it was over $3000. We did the math, and if you factor in the price of gas to drive it there plus for a generator, plus the price of filling water daily, and pumping your waste daily, it was not that bad of a deal at all.
What pissed us off was that there were major discrepencies between the various RVs there. We reserved ours the day they went on sale, we showed up pretty early on Friday, but since there was only 4 of us, the stuck us in an RV that only slept 4, with no hang area. Despite the fact that they advertised that all RVs sleep 6.
Overall, if it was implemented properly, it wouldn't have been a rip off. RVs are expensive to rent and drive in, and so is gas.
^^^our RV - a 30 ft from Cruise America ended up costing us a total of (rental, gas, generator fees, everything ) less then $1,000 - we picked it up in Gardendale outside of Birmingham

We rented a 37' behemoth that we picked up just outside of Louisville, KY.
Cost $1200 for the rental and was about $300 on gas for the 8 hour (4 hr each way) drive plus what we used on the generator over the weekend. Ran the generator for about 20 hours in total.

We drove a cruise america RV down from the philly area. We loved the RV and knowing that we AC to go back and sleep in, but what really sucked was driving all that way in the RV. I would love to do the on site RV this year, but the $$$ seems like a lot lot lot.
