I assume it's excitement stirred by that one comment in the Beacon regarding Bruce's show. It was a suspicious comment, sure, but I still take it for very little.

I remember them saying they were trying to get Radiohead for like 3 years. I'm sure they talk to big name artists way ahead of time to feel them out. I don't think that means they are going after Rolling Stones right now.....but it wouldn't surprise me if they were trying to look ahead.

They are already locking up artists for 2010 and 2011. They said in Billboard that they had been in talks with the Springsteen people for 2-3 years:
With some 125 acts on the bill, Capps says booking Bonnaroo is a "messy process" that can be years in the making. "We're already talking about 2010 and 2011," he says. "So many things take so long to come to fruition. The conversations with the Springsteen camp go back two to three years."

Well if that is true it blows my mind. These acts don't know what the hell they will be doing in two or three years, and they would have to make plans around their headlining spot. Props to the fest organizers if that's the way they do it.

relevant is which way? selling a quarter to a half a BILLION records isnt relevant. Not starting an argument, just fishing for your insight
More relevant? Excuse me son! The Rolling Stones have been playing live rock n' roll for over 45 years now. They might not be a twenty something hipster act (AC, TVOTR, et al) but they are fucking legends. They can still rock the house live too. Their newest material is not my favorite I will admit but I would love to see them at the Farm anytime.
yeah, there was an article somewhere saying that they're already looking ahead and booking artists for 10, and 11. i could see them trying to get the stones, don't really know why, but, i'm sure that it'd be a sight to see.

Not sure what you concider relevent in todays disposable culture, but their last album, A Bigger Bang is a very solid record. Give it a try. Like others have said they are the definiton of rock stars!

Novelty act? Give me a break. The Rolling Stones are probably one of the most influential rock bands out there, and they are still playing.
I'll take the Stones playing Bonnaroo any day of the week.
I imagine Superfly/AC is in contact with many big name acts with the hope of one day having them at Bonnaroo. It's not like they start making phone calls in December for the following June.
The Stones would be a great "get" for 'Roo.

Jack Bruce's voice sounds like shit these days, but Clapton would be cool. Personally, I would love to see the Stones. One of my all time favorite rock groups.
I would take Cream or Santana over the Stones, but the Stones can still rock. Who cares about their new albums, their show will consist mostly of older material and they will do it justice.
If the Stones do play, I really hope Chuck Leavell does a solo set. That would pretty much make my festival.

You do realize they usually have a big act of this generation along with an act that's more in the "classic rock" genre?

Tom Petty & Radiohead as headliners in 06
The Police & Tool as headliners in 07
If the Stones actually were going to be headliners i'm sure one of the other bands would be something a little more recent.

Personally, I think I'm going to start a thread called "Jesus Christ to come take a crap in my kitchen sink". Pretty sure I'm about as certain of that happening as Headybrah is about the Stones playing Roo in 2010...
