I'm so glad that Bonnaroo was last week and not this week. The weather here in southeastern TN has decided to turn it up a notch. At 6pm this evening, it was a scorching 100 degrees and the rest of the weekend looks much the same - if not worse.
Weather wise, I think we had an excellent weekend for Bonnaroo 2009. Let's just hope it's much the same for 2010.

Definitely enjoyed the weather. A good amount of clouds so it wasn't a beaming sun the whole day. Thursday hat some hard showers but it didn't last tooooo long. Really enjoyed it.
I had prepared my fiance for the horrible mornings. I told him how people fly out of their tents when they wake up because of the heat. How you can't sleep past 8. I really had him prepared for the worst.
Then sure enough it was cloudy and breezy every morning. This year the only thing waking us up were the babies crying for their morning feeding. But that is cute not horrible.
He sure had it easy for his first year. He'll get it next year.

I really enjoyed the weather this year. The only comparison I have is roo 2004 and that's a pretty stark contrast. We froze the first night after all the rain and we hadn't brought any blankets from the car in BFE yet. We threw on hoodies and pants, then covered ourselves with a sarong.
I really enjoyed the rain on Thursday besides constantly worrying about our tent leaking. Luckily the old coleman stood tough and only leaked one drop every few minutes.

^^^I'm from Buffalo and so my knowledge of tornados is minimum, but isn't a tornado warning about as much heads up as one can have?
I was standing outside at the west tollbooths when the warning was issued and they shut the tollbooths down. Yeah is was a bad storm but if I wasn't there to hear the warning then I would have never guessed it was that bad.
The only thing that bothers me about that whole situation is that they told the staff that if one touched down they would have them out of there quick fast. But then you look to the right and see a mess of cars bumper to bumper as far as the eye could see waiting in line. My fiance and two children were in one of those cars. What then? They had no place to go.
But the storm passed and the sun came out. So all went well.

I'm not sure a heads up about the tornado warning would have done much good. If a tornado did strike Roo, there's not really any good place to take cover, especially for 80,000 people. You'd also run the risk of a mass panic which really could be deadly in its own right with stampedes and all. Also, was this tornado warning Thursday night or during the day? I know we saw a pretty decent wall cloud while waiting in line around 10:30ish in the morning.
But yeah, the weather was awesome. I was able to sleep in the tent till past 11:00 a couple of days, and the nights were absolutely gorgeous. I even had a hell of a time partying down with People Under the Stairs in that mad thunderstrom on Thursday. I could have used a little more cloud cover early in the afternoon on Friday as the direct sunlight got a little brutal, especially for the wife who is apparantly allergic to the sun. But even then it could have been sunny and 15 degrees hotter, so I'll take that small inconvenience.

Yea, we got lucky, I got more sleep at this Bonnaroo than any other. I'm camping close to roo area this weekend and it is going to be really really hot. We are going to do the sweaty hippie pagan thing with some left over party favors.

I don't think it was the sun that could have made things as bad as thunder and lightning and hail. That's extremely miserable and it has been storming pretty hard the last like 6 days. I live near Knoxville though...so different side. But thank god you guys didn't have to go through something like that.
besides the monsoon that came down on the farm thurs night, overall a good weekend...not goin to lie a little scared for my well being the first night but it all worked out, i hope no one bailed on thurs cuz of the weather
man the first day was insane. that storm was sick and It was an experience I wont forget in my entire life. friday the sun was really really heavy ,trust me I live in PUerto Rico and here gets pretty nasty. But i got to tell you guys.....I wasnt expecting that weather at night....damnnnn it was cold.

This was some of the finest weather I've ever had at any festival to be honest. The rain on Thursday only added to the excitement and thrill of arriving at the farm. Of course, it helped that the rain came perfectly timed with after we set up our camp and were well protected.
What did you want Roo to do about the tornado warning? Build a giant geodome over the farm to protect us? If it was gonna happen, it was gonna happen. There really wasn't much to prevent it or protect us from it. Even getting in your car wouldn't help much during a tornado...
^^^Exactly. That was the only thing that made me uneasy was that my family was stuck in a car surrounded by other cars not moving. There was nothing that cold be done. If one touched down they had to just sit there and hope for the best. Not a good feeling I had there for a few minutes.

Setting up camp at the very moment we arrived Thursday helped to insure that all 7 tents were kept dry. So I REALLY enjoyed the warm rain showers of Thursday night. Soaked arriving back at camp to much laughter. Caught some great little band over by the VIP showers. (anyone who remembers their name get back to me) But we had that same weather in Colorado the week before. Including a tornado that did some major damage about 3 miles from my home. I loved it much more then last years weather. I would'nt miss Roo for any weather.

Having lived most of my life in North Texas and Middle Tennessee, I'm pretty familiar with tornados. If one had hit the farm, there wouldn't have been a damn thing anyone could do. If a tornado touches down near you and you're not already in a safe place, you're pretty much at the mercy of the elements. The safest spot would be underneath your car, NOT in it. Making an announcement about tornado warnings would have cause mass hysteria - especially amongst our northern visitors that haven't been through the drill before. If you get hit by a tornado and you can't get to a safe spot, it's just your time to go. If you get trampled to death because thousands of people are freaking out about a tornado that may or may not touch down anywhere near, that's messed up. And also a wrongful death lawsuit that AC and Superfly have to deal with later.

How many more days do we have?
i was thinking of this very same thing yesterday... boy it was hot!! the cool, cloudy mornings this year at roo were a blessing. can we please put an order in for more of the same next year?
the rain storm was really intense, i was soaked and our camp got pretty flooded, but it was actually kind of fun. the mornings were great. i was prepared for the worst, but we slept until at least 11 most mornings.
The weather was significantly better than the forcasted thunderstorms on the weather channel. I think everyones' wishing that it stop raining had a hand in that unexpected change of weather. On Thursday night though, there was a brief monsoon that passed through our campsite that had the ability to turn my snuggly warm tent into a decent-sized kiddie pool.
The weather was too good to be true really. It was perfect outside of thursday night but in a way thursday night was epic. People dont even know how lucky we got weather wise this year. Two days after Bonnaroo it was in the 90's and its been that way since. Its 90 right now and the 10 day is grueling. Summer is here.
