This morning the Georgia Theatre in Athens, GA caught fire and is pretty much destroyed. Me and a bunch of friends actually had tickets to see P-Groove there tonight and tomorrow, but obviously the shows are canceled. There are many news stories about this on local news stations. No one was hurt which is awesome, but I'm sure many people closely involved with the theatre will be negativly affected by this. So keep them in your thoughts. P-Groove have been sending tweeter messages that can be seen on their website talking about a rally for the Ga Theatre. This could get pretty big because I know alot of huge artists like REM and Widespread have played there over the years and call the Ga Theatre home.
wow, i was hanging out before nin with the guy that does the lighting at the georgia theatre. that is crazy. i was only there once to see les claypool's frog brigade like 6 years ago. that place has been there a long time though. that totally sucks.
That is very sad. I have never been there but I love the Derek Trucks Band recording from there, and it seems like a place with quite a history. Crunch for bringing this to my attention.

I don't think I've ever been there, not sure. I usually wind up at the 40 Watt or Melting Point when I'm in Athens. But it was a very important part of the Athens music scene. Hopefully they will rebuild or find a new home in the area.

if you were never there, you definitely drove right by it. it looked just like an old movie theatre, right in the middle of everything.

Yeah, definitely been past it and almost certainly never been inside. (Memories from some nights in town are a little hazy).
