the only reason cypress seems out to me is hurricane season. they've been pretty bad sweeping over florida in recent years, and i think this year may be one of the worst based on current temps.
Well hurricane season is June 1 through November 30, and FL doesn't shut down all summer and fall because of it. It's true that there were a lot of hurricanes five or so years ago, but since then there haven't been all that many in FL. I think we had one last year, but that may have only been a tropical storm. Although FL is 1st in states with hurricanes, Texas is a close second.
From what I understand, this year El Nino is supposed to bring all of us a normal-to-quiet hurricane season.
considering how friggin' hot the gulf coast has been, i don't forsee a quiet hurricane season in the slightest.
as for texas...being in austin/georgetown would mean the hurricanes wouldn't affect the phest in the slightest. we didn't get a single drop of rain from the past 3 major hurricanes. we're just too far inland.
big cypress, on the other hand, is on the very tip of florida, exposed to whatever tropical storm or hurricane may want to be fueled that weekend. i just think it would be silly to risk putting what will end up being a huge production in an area prone to bad weather.
if you zoom out of the page (ctrl + a few times) cali is still hovering above the map in midair suspended by the balloons. flash error or trick that cali will be replaced later in the game?
i still don't want to go to a phest with normal to mild hurricanes. but i mean, that's just me...
That's understandable. But a normal to mild season doesn't mean we'll actually have any hurricanes. Last year was above average and we didn't have any in FL.
Hurricanes at least have the decency to let us know they're coming days or weeks in advance, unlike the the tornado warning we had at Bonnaroo this year.
i mean its not like hurricanes are always a definite in florida. plus by that time in october the season will be almost finished and we don't really get any big ones at that time. its kind of stupid to say phish won't play a festival in florida because its the end of hurricane season imo also i lived in ft. pierce for most of my life which got hit directly by 2 hurricanes and while there was a good bit of damage it in no way crippled the town
I don't think Florida is out because of Hurricane season. Looking up the historical data for Big Cypress at that time of year shows it to be pretty mild.

hey, i'm not saying big cypress wouldn't be .fucking epic. i would love for it to be there. i'm just saying i think it would be too risky to HOPE a hurricane didn't hit. i've been through and watched enough myself that i know how unpredictable they can be. and so what if you get a warning a few days ahead? it's not like they can just up and move the festival.

True, they rarely occur that late in the season. If hurricane season shut down large outdoor gatherings in FL, this state would be empty half the year, since the season is 6 months long.
The beaches, all the festivals in Key West, Miami, even Live Oak (both Wannee and Bear Creek are during hurricane season) would be empty during some of the best weather you could ever enjoy (besides the occasional hurricane of course).

I am just saying that there has not been any major weather there on that weekend in the past 7 years when I look up the historical data. I don't think you would have to hope too hard.
All that beng said Datelan is more than likely the correct answer.

Don't they have festivals in Cali all the time, just hoping there's not an earthquake? Festivals throughout the midwest and southeast during the spring hoping there won't be a tornado?

trust me, i definitely understand where you're coming from. but there's going to be potential issues no matter where it ends up being located. i think this is just me praying that it's big cypress

haha, that's ok. i'm about to pour me a glass of this texas kool-aid

No way I grew up in Ft. Pierce! Now I live in Melbourne
The peak of Hurricane Season is around Sept. 10th or so. Usually we at least see something to worry about at some point between the end of July and the end of September. By the end of October though, we're typically in the clear. That said, I was in Miami in '05, and we got hit by Wilma the last week of October. A big chunk of South Florida was shut down for about a week or two. But '04 and '05 were freaks for hurricanes seasons.
It's true you absolutely never know, but in the past 50 years there have only been 2 hurricanes that have come through South Fl in the last half of October.

Its gone. Lets not turn this into PT. Realistically.... Im thinking FL. Although I also think everyones focusing on them having the fest somewhere really warm. I could also see them having it somewhere away from the coast with more of a fall vibe. I live in IL and the past couple halloweens have been hot actually . So I dont think Indiana or a state like that is out of the question.
Somewhere with fall leaves would be really cool, but, man, I really don't want to deal with the cold at night. It sucks shivering in your sleeping bag.
I usually go to camp zoe at Halloween just north of ST louis, it is cold but not unbearably cold. It is the reason god created hand warmer packets. Just fire up three or four and you will be fine all night.
