I went last year. Red Rocks is a beautiful venue, for sure, and I've seen a few shows there in addition to Monolith.
My only issue with the festival was the setup, and that's a by-product of the venue's location. The main bands all play the main stage at the bottom, but the other bands play stages that are at the top of the amphitheater or inside small rooms just off the top of the amphitheater. Getting in to the main part is a hike, either up a massive, steep flight of stairs or via a very steep ramp. Getting to the top of the amphitheater is another massive climb (I'm not positive, but I think it's more than 300 steps...). This necessitated a lot of running around to see both the smaller bands and the main stage acts and I was positively worn out by the end of day 1. Mind you, if you're not coming from a high altitude city, that coupled with all the stair climbing can be taxing. One thing I found lacking was the availability of a variety of food, but you can bring in your own food -- which many people do -- so that's easily overcome if you're so inclined.
The positives are that the venue is beautiful and, if you get there early enough, you can stake out a spot at the main stage by sectioning off with a tarp or blanket and no one will bother with your things if you leave to visit the smaller stages. Security is great; they plugged in my charger when my camera battery went dead and did a great job of enforcing the first come, first served rule (in that when people tried to move in to our space later in the day, they came over and respectfully asked them to find another place to watch the show).
All in all, the positives far outweigh the negatives and you're going to have a GREAT time!
Thanks Sass! That is great to hear! I am REALLY looking forward to seeing Mars Volta, Phoenix, Passion Pit and Girl Talk again...and in such a relatively intimate and GORGEOUS setting! I can't wait!

Hey if we're all three gonna be out there, we should try and meet up with each other and catch a show one afternoon! I imagine the nights will be pretty insane, but the afternoon would def. be doable yea? I think Easymorning and I would love to bask in the venue enchancing glow of Daniroo....for a little while!

Sounds like a plan! And you two are too cute!
But yeah, I'll be out there all by my lonesome, so having some people to hang with would be nice. I'll be down in the thick of things for the dance shows, but I think hanging out during the day would be stellar. Which reminds me, I need to go make my schedule... have you guys already planned yours?

Not entirely but I know what acts I wont miss...Passion Pit (missed them at 'Roo), Phoenix (they are amazing live!) OK GO (never seen them live) and of course GIRL TALK which is easily the sickest party I have ever been to! You going to be at any of those shows?

That looks like a GREAT line-up...very similar to mine in fact! You have good taste!
Ooooh, I see you have the Andrew Bird show in October on your schedule too! He was one of my surprise shows at 'Roo this year, and I have been trying to decide if wanted to see him in Chapel Hill or Asheville! Thing is KoL plays in ATL that same Friday...decisions decisions!!
But yea, lets look at our schedules and pick a show all three of us wants to see, and we can totally meet up! I love hanging out with InfoRoo people! How about umm...Frightened Rabbit or OK GO on Sat., or like The Dandy Warhols on Sunday??

It looks like we all want to see The Frightened Rabbits on Sat, maybe we can meet up then?
Carpe, I'm still trying to decide if I am going to the Andrew Bird show. I really want to go to the KOL show, but tickets are rediculous. I may just have to hop a flight to ACL instead.
EMR, I've never seen them but have heard good things. I can't wait to check them out!

Frightened Rabbits works for me! Yeay for Bonnaroo show buddies! Any idea what a good landmark out there would be?? They are on the main stage so it shouldnt be to hard to find a meeting spot!
And yea, those KoL tickets are freakin' pricey...I kinda like your idea of just ponying up the extra $$ and hitting ACL, their line-up this year is ridiculous! I wish I had some spare cashing just sitting around...

saw 'em (Lotus) at Langerado a couple of years ago, they're def a band to see live, their cd's don't give you the true experience...I'm cool with meeting up for Frightened Rabbit

That's great! Can't wait to see you guys out there! Rabbit's play the main stage @ 4, so lets just plan to meet in the middle of the first bench/row of the amphitheater @ like 3:45? Looking forward to it!

So Monolith was, in a word, AMAZING!! I had the best time out there..the venue is unmatched in terms of beauty, and Denver/Morrison are just awesome. Aside from a little rain Saturday, it was a gorgeous weekend and the music was FANTASTIC!! Passion Pit, Phoenix, M. Ward Girl Talk and Mars Volta all put on GREAT shows, with Passion Pit's set Sunday evening totally stealing the show.
I also got to catch some acts I had either never heard of (Savoy, Raziel) or never seen live (Dandy Worehols, M. Ward) which was great. The venue wasn't insanely crowded and the vibe was really really outgoing and fun. I was able to leave some of my things (cooler, blanket etc.) unattended for long periods of time without anyone messing with them.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a really fun, inexpensive (airfare not withstanding) and gorgeous fest to check out next year, you should take a look at Monolith.
