This is amazing news. I never thought I'd get to see this guy. He's actually coming to Blomington. Getting my tix tomorrow for, what I am sure will be, a spectacle.

To answer my own question...yes. That was the quickest onsale I've seen other than Radiohead. Tried for Toronto the minute the went on sale, gone, sold out. Tried for Ithaca, the show wasn't on ticketmaster, had to go through their smaller site which was not ready for the server crush. Tried twenty minutes, finally got in and got two tickets. Commence victory dance.

Yeah, I had to try for 30 minutes. They only sold tix through the theatre website and it def wasn't able to handle the load, but I got my two tix. Insidejoke got her two as well. I cannot wait.

The Indianapolis Museum of Art, My Old Kentucky Blog and Asthmatic Kitty present:
Osso A screening of Sufjan Stevens’ “The BQE” DM Stith
Promotional support from LUNA music
Sunday, November 1 at 4pm – Live at the Toby!
(Indianapolis, IN – Sept. 21, 2009) The Indianapolis Museum of Art and My Old Kentucky Blog present a multimedia indie arts blowout, featuring two art experiences inspired by the work of musician Sufjan Stevens and a performance by Asthmatic Kitty’s DM Stith.
Admission is $10 for the general public and $7 for IMA members. To purchase tickets for this event, visit: tickets.imamuseum.org/show.asp
About Osso Osso is a New York and Berlin-based string quartet with a modernist pulse. Their interpretation of Stevens’ electronic album Enjoy Your Rabbit recomposes computer keystrokes into rhythmic classical arrangements.
About “The BQE” Following Osso's performance, attendees can check out a screening of Sufjan Stevens' The BQE. The BQE is a cinematic suite, created by Sufjan Stevens, inspired by the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and the Hula-Hoop. Commissioned by the Brooklyn Academy of Music, The BQE was originally performed in the Howard Gilman Opera House in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Next Wave Festival in October of 2007. The BQE is self-made home-movie documentation, exhibiting how all of the architectural colors of Brooklyn and Queens are fabulously intersected by this ramshackle artery of highway traffic. Shot renegade style on do-it-yourself film cameras, the animated footage of grid-lock crisscrossing the brick and mortar of Brooklyn flickers and cascades on three simultaneous screens. The 16mm cinematography utilizes time-lapse photography, in-camera editing, slow motion and post-production mirror effects to transform urban blight into a splendor of graphic compositions.
About DM Stith DM Stith will perform to end the evening. Stith moved from Rochester to Brooklyn to pursue a career as a graphic designer. While in Brooklyn, he befriended Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond, and began facilitating, in small, technical ways, the recording of her album Bring Me the Workhorse. This, in turn, spurred him to begin writing and recording songs of his own. He spent countless days stored away in his bedroom, sketching folk songs with epic electronic gestures. DM Stith completed his first catalog of songs for an album called Ichabod and Apple, written and recorded in the first month of his song-writing experiments. His first full length album, Heavy Ghost, is available on Asthmatic Kitty Records.

This show was beyond excellent. He didn't disappoint. I almost lost it when he played "Jacksonville." The new songs were really good, and the older stuff was beautifully arranged, which was no surprise. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity.

He called it "the Live Sufjan Stevens Workshop Performance" because they played so many new songs. He asked for our patience while they fumbled with their sheet music. I don't have the set list, but he played a lot of new stuff, I mean a lot. He played Chicago and Jacksonville. John Wayne Gacy was one of the two encore songs. The local student paper said that he played new songs called "All Delighted People", "Impossible Soul" which had about a 10 minute jam at the end of it. I was so excited to see him. Inside Joke turned me on to him about 8 months ago and I can't thank her enough for that. I met him before the show and seemed really surprised that someone would want his autograph. He was just chilling at a cafe right by the venue.
